  7. When you say: "malalim na ang gabi," it means it is very late at night.

When you say: "sa kuko ng dilim," it means that the brightness of day is ending and the night is about to start.

The word "kuko" or fingernails, which is at the tip of our hands, connotes that the day is ending and about to transition into the night.

It's the same, if one says, "sa kuko ng liwanag." When the deep of the night transitions into daylight."

As per usual, mali nanaman ang paggamit ng malalim na Tagalog ni Robin. Just because you put deep words together doesn't equate eloquence. Nobody is impressed by a wrong statement. We can still convey our messages with simple and concise statements using simple words. #justsayin

    2. We never know.. Malay natin paumaga na nga nung nangyari ang incident.. Maybe robin was right when he said kuko ng kadiliman.

    3. in fairness.. ngayon ko lang nalaman ang mga meaning nito.. lalo na yung may kuko. pero may ganun palang salita ano.. sobrang lalim

    4. @11.00: If what you're saying is true, then it should be "sa kuko ng liwanag."

His statement conflicted when he wrote na "malalim na ang dilim at tayo ay nasa kuko ng kadiliman."

    5. If I may just add, "kuko" in this context also connotes something that is "on the verge of." Thus, "kuko ng kadiliman" translates to "on the verge of nightfall." So, Anon 2:03 is correct his/her interpolation of the contradicting statement of Mr. Padilla. Mabuhay ang wikang Filipino!

    6. Thanks sa lecture baks! At least hindi lang english ang may mga grammar nazi dito, pati na din ang tagalog kalerks.

    7. Ive always thought that kuko ng kadiliman means literally in the claws of night or the dark. Connotes darkness, danger, nighttime where a lot of bad things usually happen. Even sinister. In that context tama si robin. Madilim na ang gabi at maraming hindi magagandang bagay ang pwedeng mangyari. Mas delikado ang paligid

    8. Tama ka 6:14AM. Like when we talk about birds of prey like eagles and hawks. They hold their catch in their talons or claws. At nasa panganib na ng kamatayan ang huli nila. Sa kuko ng kadiliman, in the clutches of the night, bad things happen
