This so sad. I remember one Filipino production which had a shoot abroad, the Filipino crew was surprised the foreign crew couldn't work very long hours as they had. Which just showed that artists there were protected on how many hours they should work. This is obviously missing in our movie industry.

I don't think Robert Arevalo is supporting them. He is working because he loves his craft. May mga tao talagang sanay lang mag work. And besides, Robert Arevalo and Barbara Perez are financially stable.
Call me insensitive but acting job is seasonal esp for the likes of robert arevalo who is lucky enough to get a starring role in the midst of all these youbg star at his age. I'm not saying that 28 hrs is completelynfair. But not inhumane. Doctors and nurses work the same amount, year round; getting paid not even close to half of what actors are getting per episode. I'm pretty certain he wasn't awake nor working the entire 28 hrs.
I symphatize and understand the concern that as a daughter of a 78 year old person would have , but if she's as concerned as she is saying, she wouldnt post anything that would jeopardize the craft of her dad; the job that fed her all these years.. She's a grown woman, she can do something like go with her dad at his next taping day, talk to his directors about her concerns,instead of ranting off about this.

Why couldn't she talk to her father first? She says she knows her father will get mad at her; but I don't know if she realizes that it is also humiliating for her father that she is ranting on social media this way. The thing with our veteran actors is that they have been doing this job for such a long time that they know and understand the nature of their work. Her dad is more than able to talk to the network bosses about this matter had she dialogued with him first. Then maybe after that he can talk to the network about it. With this rant, she has now put her father in an awkward position. Instead of being able to deal with the situation directly, he would now also have to apologize for his daughter's inappropriate public complaints.
And yes, networks who keep their employees working overtime like this should pay attention to how schedules are kept on time, and not take advantage of its actors' goodwill and "pakikisama." If they have a good grip on timelines then they should be able to finish their sequences on time and send their cast and crew home to their families at a reasonably decent time, so they can rest properly and recharge for the next taping day. I hope the crew members are paid overtime rates for the grueling hours they keep just to get things done.

This has been the practice of our local networks. I think it is because on how things are done in terms of how the show is run, especially teleseryes. Since, they are shown everyday there is more requirement in terms of shooting hours. Moreover, production needs to comply with their deadline and the budget. Cutting taping hours everyday means additional cost as it would result to more days of taping.
I think if teleseryes can be made per season, like how it is done in the US, I think working conditions can be better for the people.
For change to happen, we viewers would have to adjust as well.
It can be done and I hope the networks can think of ways how to be more caring towards the well-being of the people and at the same time meet their requirements in terms of cost efficiency.

ReplyDeleteCall me insensitive but acting job is seasonal esp for the likes of robert arevalo who is lucky enough to get a starring role in the midst of all these youbg star at his age. I'm not saying that 28 hrs is completelynfair. But not inhumane. Doctors and nurses work the same amount, year round; getting paid not even close to half of what actors are getting per episode. I'm pretty certain he wasn't awake nor working the entire 28 hrs.
I symphatize and understand the concern that as a daughter of a 78 year old person would have , but if she's as concerned as she is saying, she wouldnt post anything that would jeopardize the craft of her dad; the job that fed her all these years.. She's a grown woman, she can do something like go with her dad at his next taping day, talk to his directors about her concerns,instead of ranting off about this.
Lets fight for better working conditions for everyone to avoid these

While it's sad that Direk Wenn and Direk Pasion died so suddenly there is no real evidence that their jobs caused them their lives. Countless of people work long hours while under a lot more pressure than these often pampered actors and still worry that the money they earned won't pay the bills or feed their family.

Why couldn't she talk to her father first? She says she knows her father will get mad at her; but I don't know if she realizes that it is also humiliating for her father that she is ranting on social media this way. The thing with our veteran actors is that they have been doing this job for such a long time that they know and understand the nature of their work. Her dad is more than able to talk to the network bosses about this matter had she dialogued with him first. Then maybe after that he can talk to the network about it. With this rant, she has now put her father in an awkward position. Instead of being able to deal with the situation directly, he would now also have to apologize for his daughter's inappropriate public complaints.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, networks who keep their employees working overtime like this should pay attention to how schedules are kept on time, and not take advantage of its actors' goodwill and "pakikisama." If they have a good grip on timelines then they should be able to finish their sequences on time and send their cast and crew home to their families at a reasonably decent time, so they can rest properly and recharge for the next taping day. I hope the crew members are paid overtime rates for the grueling hours they keep just to get things done.

Dapat nga kinausap niya muna tatay niya o di kaya sumama siya sa susunod na shooting. O di kaya, ipalagay sa kontrata na kailangan umuwi sa oras dahil nga naman sa edad niya kelangan niya rin ng pahinga sa bahay bago sumalang ulit sa shooting.

ReplyDeleteThis has been the practice of our local networks. I think it is because on how things are done in terms of how the show is run, especially teleseryes. Since, they are shown everyday there is more requirement in terms of shooting hours. Moreover, production needs to comply with their deadline and the budget. Cutting taping hours everyday means additional cost as it would result to more days of taping.
ReplyDeleteI think if teleseryes can be made per season, like how it is done in the US, I think working conditions can be better for the people.
For change to happen, we viewers would have to adjust as well.
It can be done and I hope the networks can think of ways how to be more caring towards the well-being of the people and at the same time meet their requirements in terms of cost efficiency.
Have ypu checked the working condition and the working environment of your father? Baka naman kasi he is being taken cared off naman while hindi pa sya ang nakasalang sa scene. Baka may designated venue for him to rest. Iha, wag maki-bandwagon sa current issue. You are a grown woman. You can be more proactive if you are concerned sa Tatay mo.
