Actually, the NBI does indeed have that capability and can request/demand user info from those companies (I used to work for the Anti-Cybercrime Group but I resigned due to personal reasons), kaso it would be a waste of time and resources to deal with mundane issues such as this one.
2:50am, thanks for the info... it's true that this issue is mundane compared to other more heinous crimes being committed online. But if I was the one offended and I had abundant resources, I'd go after this troll just to restore my confidence in law and order. If only to prove that our laws have teeth and that laws also exist in cyberspace, I'd go after this pathetic troll.
It's a sad fact that female victims are often depicted as spiteful, vindictive bitches when they press charges against their offenders for something as "mundane" as defending their honor. But the impact of successfully making this troll accountable for his/her offense could help put some law and order in our online interactions. It could also protect Janella and other public personalities from similar attacks in the future. Or at the very least, it could make bashers think twice before they spew any more of their vicious attacks online.
Ms. Desiderio seems to have not only the sympathy of the public on this issue (based on the comments on this forum) but also a respectable reputation to come out of this with dignity intact. I hope she files charges. And I hope her lawyer friends would volunteer their services for her case. Someone has to start making trolls accountable for their online misbehavior especially those who are as brazen and unapologetic as venus.sonora.
