But for now watch and learn sa mga sinasabi mong "senior citizens".

    4. bakit kasi mas pine-patronize ang mabababaw na themes. i long for those movies na pag alis mo ng sinehan, mag iisip ka pa rin(and yes, me ganung films). kaya d ako watch films madalas, watching a film because of an actor is really not worth my money and time.

    3. sisterakas. seriously, this is the most annoying film i have watched in years.

      Delete
    4. 5:40 PM --> Correction, 2nd best picture ang Sisteraka, tinalo pa nya ang Womb, El Prez and Chito Rono helmed SRR 14. This whole thing is a joke.
Viewers deserve more hindi yung Sisterakas. Tapos yung GMA, makers of past hitmaking entries like RIZAL and Muro Ami...tapos Sosy Problems?

and nakakagulat ha. ni isang award walang nakuha ang si agimat, si enteng kabisote at si ako? well, it seems na nagiging mahigpit na sa pagpili ang mga hurado. very good!

at congrats kay wilma doesnt! hindi man siya laging nakikita sa tv or movies pero wow!, nanalo siya. may laban pa sa aktingan.

    5. to each his own. people want different things in movies. i like that mmff movies has different themes to cater to different people's tastes. for most of the movies there, i'm sure their producers are not really counting on the awards but on the commercial success. and for the makers of thy womb and el presidente, i'm sure they risked commercial success for the quality of their films.

      Delete

Ang basis ng award is not the originality of the story but yung quality ng writing. magiging issue yun kung Best Original Story ang napanalunan ng OMT.

    1. sabi mo wala ka pang napapanood sa mga entries and yet you're confident that the awards for thy womb is not questionable. so you have a pre-conceived opinion based on past performances of nora or you have been influenced by the opinion of others. either way, it shows prejudice.

ako, i'm happy for everyone who won and it's nice to have a event like this which celebrates the local film industry.

  16. Star Cinema’s solely produced film in this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival is the heavy romance slash drama One More Try starring the quartet of Angel Locsin, Angelica Panganiban, Dingdong Dantes, and Zanjoie Marudo. This emotion packed film is from the same director who gave us the box office hit No Other Woman last year, Ruel S. Bayani.

In the movie, single mother Grace (Angel Locsin) is off to find the father of her son from a short lived fling years before. Their son (which the father, Edward (Dingdong Dantes), was not aware of) is in dire need of a bone marrow transplant in order to survive his condition. Edward is now married to workaholic Jacqueline (Angelica Panganiban) while Grace is now with boyfriend Tristan (Zanjoe Marudo). The kid’s condition will connect these two couples, as we witness how far Grace will go for the betterment of her child.

I find the premise of the movie really interesting though at times, some scenes were too contrived to give more tension an to the four characters. It definitely is not lacking in drama; as a matter of fact, there’s a lot of effective emotional punches that appears every now and then. I like how the film was motivated enough to go back to its primary focus: the lengths that a mother can go to in order to save her child. It is within this facet where the film’s greatest strength lies.

Among the four characters, I liked how they wrote Grace the most. It’s probably because I felt that she was the most human. She was vulnerable but determined; she can be desperate but is persistent. One can question her, yet another can also see the reason behind her actions. The rest of the foursome weren’t really that bad, but I just felt that Grace has the best writing. On the other hand, characters of Carmina Villaroel as the unprofessional doctor and office mate Agot Isidro were annoying and unnecessary respectively.
The acting of the four leads in the movie was quite impressive. Dingdong Dantes is a leading man in every sense. With this and Tiktik, he managed to carve out interesting characters to play. Zanjoe Marudo was given the least to do, but he was given lots of money scenes to work on to. Angelica Panganiban for the most part was good; the only times I did not like her was with her earlier scenes with Agot Isidro where both seemed to be rehearsing for their first full English play. Carmina Villaroel was too perky to make me believe she was a convincing professional. Oh and did I say she was the most annoying character in the movie?

But the one who was the best in show in the film was Angel Locsin. While I’d say that having an interesting and well written character helped her, I still think that she helped the characterization of Grace to feel human and organic. It speaks a lot when I say that there despite liking her in In the Name of Love and Unofficially Yours, I can still see patterns of her doing “OMG Actressing” in those movies. The same can’t be said with her compelling and expressive performance here. It’s somewhat regretful that she’s competing alongside the ethereal Nora Aunor (in Thy Womb), as I think Locsin also deserved trophies for this performance. Oh well; at most, I can say that it says more when your performance is now compared to La Aunor.

For the record, I’m not keen about the highly dramatic third act and the predictable ending. It’s just lazy. Giving characters closure does not always have to be happy or peaceful. But for the most part, I was hooked and contented with what I saw. Definitely one of the better movies this filmfest.

  30. But I have to say congrats to Angel. I am no Kapuso but I leaned towards GMA7 because of its excellent documentaries and news program. I am should say that I was one of those who got peeved when she left GMA7 but looking at her career now, I think she made the right choice. She might not be a box-office magnet like Vice-Ganda or even Bea/KC/Anne/Sarah but the way her career is progressing, I can see that hers would be a fruitful one. You know, not a Nora/Vilma as far as box office is concerned during their prime but someone who can be like Lorna Tolentino, an actress who started as a teeny-bopper but who is now one of the most respected and bankable actress in our land,

  36. I agree with DingDong's win. His performance was so well conceived and executed. Yung nalilito at nagweweigh ng decisions. Nora Aunor is the best actress in the Philippines. Even in her sleep, she can outact any other actress including the histrionics queen Vilma Santos. I find it weird that many were expecting Angel Locsin to win when in fact even in her most brilliant moment, Nora can still outact her. I also found Eric Salut's tweet very rude, uncalled for, and unclassy. Sa States, when Meryl Streep, 62, gets nominated and wins, people are happy for her. Hindi ako fan ni Nora pero I know how to appreciate a genuine thespian when I see one perform. Just my two cents.

I can't stand the shrieking of these youngsters (whew, the same argument my Aunts used against us) Thy Womb and El Presidente.

Now my honest opinion. Thy Womb is like watching a documentary. No dramatic highlights, just people living and breathing their daily existence. Nora Aunor no doubt is not a good actress. Good actresses are the likes Vilma, Lorna etc. Nora Aunor is A GREAT ACTRESS, a league of her own. Bembol, too, stood out. Ganun naman ang klasika di ba, boring sa una, kelangang ulitin until it grows on you. Nora Aunor is a GREAT ACTRESS no doubt but she needs a vehicle that will re-introduce her to the new generation. Wag laging hebigat, even the great Meryll Streep has to vary her roles kasi nakakasawa din di ba pag araw-araw adobo ang ulam mo.

Hindi naman selling out o prostituting your craft kung gagawa ka ng kunyari One Last Try, good movie naman yan from what I heard. Good but not great is not a bad move di ba?

  38. My own movie review----

I saw 3 movies and here's what I think of them:

    1. Sosy Problem - I don't know what part of the movie I saw but this was obviously a movie that was rushed. Bianca King is not a member of the middle class pataas, obvious na halata. Hers is the best story of them four but she lacks the depth to make me believe she is in a fix. I dare not wait for the start of the movie. Labas agad as I think I already know what will happen.

    2. Shake Rattle and Roll - this franchise is in dire need of an oxygen. Wala. Graded A ito di ba? Movies of this kind should be taxed heavily, especially if they are directed by a so called good director and especially if they cheated in their promotion. At least, si Enteng at Sisteraka, walang pretensyon to be good, pero this one, why Rono did you allow yourself to be associated with this movie.

I came in sa episode ni Dennis Trillo, ending part. Looks promising parang pelikula ni Arnold S. Then came the Lovi/Vhong episode, and I asked, this was made by Rono. The saving part of this episode is when Vhong saw Chocoleit and he blurted DI TIYAK, well it made me laugh.

So I ask myself, would I be a masochist for an hour and watch the episode of Janice? Nah, walk out ulit.

So off I went to see Thy Womb. Wala lang, naawa ako, walang nanonood. So kunwari, engot ako, twice kong ipinasok yung aking e-plus, huh, contributed P340 para naman masabing me kinita. There were 4 of us inside SM Manila.

So how do I find the movie. Nora Aunor is a great actress but there ought to be a way to showcase her talent in a not so boring project. This movie lulled me to sleep. And you cannot blame people for not coming to see this movie. It is christmas time, time to be jolly, time for family bonding, so you want to spend your hard earned money with the best ROI - which is coming out of the movie with a smile, me feeling of satisfaction. Di ba, pasok ka sa school, sabi ng teacher mo, do not read thrash in my class, read Shakespeare, read the Russian novelists - well sure they sound great for the academe pero sa kagaya kong pedestrian, care ko naman ke Shakespeare, ok na sa akin ang komiks....

Sana Nora will choose her movie wisely. For every Thy Womb movie dapat meron siyang Flor Contemplacion or Tinik sa Dibdib, good quality commercial movie. Kasi it is almost a sin that the new generations do not appreciate her art pero what can we do, to see a movie, you need money, syempre sa younger generation who is dependent on their parents sa allowance nila, dun sila sa magsasaya sila.

  41. kahit thy womb lang ang pelikula sa lahat ng sinehan... aantayin na lang ng mga tao na magkaroon ng bagong pelikula sa january... sabihin na nating maganda ang thy womb but the moviegoers are after entertainment... kung quality at quality ang paguusapan why dont you we try na ipagtapat ang les miserables at thy womb... anu kaya ang mas panunoorin? sorry dear but the movie is not that appealing at all... but i know how great Nora as an actress... NO DOUBT ABOUT IT... its just the movie is too "experimental" for Christmas season... kung sasabihin nyo na walang logic na ipagtapat ang both films, kindly tell that to OSCAR's na nagcoconsider ng valid international film entries...

    1. Wag mo sabihing LAHAT NG TAO. Dahil kaunti man, may nanuod nung pelikula. ANd the fact that few people watched it reflects little about the film but more on the taste level of the audience. And I bet you are somebody who did not even go watch the movie. NO DOUBT ABOUT IT.

  42. Enteng Kabisote. Bakit ba gumagawa ng ganyang pelikula when we know iisa lang lagi plot? Ang nag-iiba lang eh si Ina Magenta.

In fairness, maganda yung El Prez ha. Finally, ER hit the right role. Di ko pa napapanood yung Thy Womb, Strangers, Sisterakas tsaka 1 More Try kaya wiz muna ako comment sa kanila. Hopefully, madatnan ko pa yung movie ni Ate Guy next year.

  48. sad talaga with the shake rattle and roll series. kitams, isang award lang. sa format kasi napapdali ang story with only 45 minutes per part. tapos masyadong kopyado ang storyline sa mga US movies, di na utu-in ang mga pinoy.

visual effects lang maganda pero honestly, that was like 2 minutes sa ending nila vhong and angel locsin. yun lang. as in.

  50. A friend of mine posted a movie trailer of a certain Chinese movie in his FB account. He said he got a ribbing from his officemates (he work in a mulitnational firm based in China) because of a film which was copied from a Chinese movie. The movie trailer did not get my attention, the accompanying text did.

This is how the movie was described in the movie trailer that is also posted in youtube = "A divorced couple learns that the only way to save their little daughter Hehe, who suffers from a blood disease, is to have another child. Now both remarried, Mei Zhu and Xiao Lu are forced to test their love and their commitment to one another by putting their current relationships in danger. A story of parenthood, love, married life, betrayal, trust and giving, which touches upon changes in contemporary society and family life, as well as the moral and ethical dilemmas brought on by modernity. Official selection of the Cannes Film Festival."

Is the best picture a copy or was inspired by IN LOVE WE TRUST. When I first read about the best picture awardee, I thought that it was lifted from another movie - MAN WOMAN CHILD. It is a about a man who did not know tha he fathered a child in France.

Ganun na ba ang MMFF ngayon? After the Sotto incident, pati movie, pardon the f(p)un, plagiarize na rin?

  51. I saw THY WOMB out of curiosity. Namangha ako. It was different and refreshing. And that Nora Aunor is... ang hirap iexplain. Walang dialogue pero nagsasalita sha thru actions and her eyes. She gives new definition to the word ACTING. The film asks more questions than it answers. Napag-isip ako kung anong nangyari sa character ng bida after the movie. It broke my heart. Napag isip din ako who else could play the part of the midwife na bida na artista dito sa atin. Wala ako maisip. I guess si Nora Aunor lang.
