Unexpected Blessing

Covid-19 and the subsequent restrictions, such as lockdowns and limited work, have had tremendous effects on the lifestyle and mental health of people. Showbiz celebrities were not spared, as most were out of work given that shootings required many people on the set. The months of idleness allegedly affected Network Talent (NT).

Prior to the pandemic, NT was a very busy celebrity. As soon as one project ended, NT would already have another. However, the family of NT noticed that her personality changed with the lack of work. NT seems to have withdrawn to her own world. Her friends recommended a visit to a doctor who could help NT. With production teams applying the new normal taping procedures, the doctor advised NT to resume work to get her groove back.

Based on the advice, A Kin (AK) approached a Production Head (PH) to seek work for NT. After all, NT has done several projects with them in the past. AK was turned down. PH revealed that their team had a traumatic experience with NT when she threw a tantrum on the set. To protect NT, the team had a news blackout on the incident. Subsequently, the management decided not to avail of NT’s services until a medical clearance has been issued.

AK could not argue for NT even if he vouched for her and said that her production assistants would prevent any untoward incident. Hence, AK tried another production team. This time, AK was given approval to include NT in his project so he can personally supervise NT. AK was surprised at the positive response and was so grateful for the opportunity for NT to work and heal.

With employees moving, resigning, or retiring, Industry Mover (IM) saw an opportunity for growth in the team. The vacancies indicated open positions and IM felt he could very well fit the post he had been coveting. Title and position mattered for IM, even if the salary would be a bit lower than his current post's compensation.

IM was out to prove something. Over the years, IM had to endure the teasing behind his back; he was only in his post because of his connections. Those comments hit IM hard, as he knew he could stand on his merit. His contributions were immeasurable as well and he delivered for the team.

IM sent feelers that he was the right one to handle the leadership of a department given his years of working with many talents. IM was confident that his rich background of experiences could justify him as the best choice. When the decision came out, IM was left in the cold and instructed to focus on his current task. IM said that he wanted a break from that assignment and he could still be a consultant. He was turned down, as he apparently lacked certain credentials for the post.

Disappointed, IM reached out to other opportunities. His effort was not wasted. He received positive responses. In addition to good pay, he was offered a post similar to what he really wanted. IM bid farewell to his former employers, who released him without fuss. No one is indispensable these days and loyalty no longer guarantees rewards.

Confusing Decision

Knowledge can often stir up emotions, especially when the story can affect a Loved One (LO). When LO chose to explore a relationship with Controversial Man (CM), most of her friends, fans, and family were happy. Unfortunately, Doubting Person (DP) was not keen on CM for LO.

When LO sensed the cynicism of DP towards CM, she convinced him to give CM a chance, as time has already changed him and intrigues of the past should be let go. However, DP remained firm, and LO was clueless at the attitude.

DP found out something about CM, which made him anxious. According to Trusted Friend (TF), sometime ago, CM went on date with a woman, whom she knows very well. CM and the woman had a few drinks, but something was off. The woman realized CM allegedly placed something in her drink, which led to an unwanted private incident with him. The woman was unable to report the incident to authorities out of fear, as CM had connections and well-known. She was embarrassed to tell her family as well. The story placed DP in a dilemma, as he could not bring himself to tell LO. TF would be dragged, as she told DP the story in confidence.

Word reached his former colleagues that Celebrity Transferee (CT) is realizing the consequences of his career move. Instead of rewards, CT is faced with pressure that he no longer needs given his stature. CT was persuaded to transfer based on a promise that his career would zoom up. After all, the offer was enticing.

Contrary to high hopes, advertisers were lukewarm towards CT’s project. With few ads, the production has to absorb the costs and CT’s project is not cheap. Hence, the Team Head (TH) instructed CT and company to improve their performance. CT did not like the way they were reprimanded and if not for his word of honor, he would have left. However, he signed a contract that he will honor until the end.

Apparently, CT’s contract is not that long. As soon as his contract ends, CT allegedly will not sign up again. He will go on a break to recharge. He might even go overseas.

Although a former boss has assured him that he can return any time, CT is embarrassed to take the offer and has no face to show to the main boss. Fans might construe him as an opportunist if he comes back so soon. For now, CT has plans to semi-retire and rethink where he wants to lead his career.
