Knowing His Heart

These days, a network must have realized that their investment in Kindhearted Actor (KA) is paying off. When the network took risk in hiring the services of the then unknown actor, little did the bosses anticipate that one project would transform him into an influential figure. KA’s projects rated and his performance was translated into endorsements. KA continued his rise and gained the trust of the bosses. Eventually, KA was given freedom in pursuing what he wanted and as KA’s career developed, so did the strength of the network.

Things were working well and KA was successful because he cared for everyone in the production. Years passed and with his talent fees, endorsements, and other projects, KA has allegedly earned more money than any talent can imagine. Despite his wealth, KA preferred to live quietly and keep his life private.

The pandemic changed all that. Suddenly, KA was without work, but that situation hardly dented his finances. However, KA realized he has to go beyond himself, as many depended on him. When restrictions were eased and work could resume, the network informed KA that the non-airing of his project has caused much loss to the management and expenses would be very high if the production continues.

Instead of accepting the decision of management, KA negotiated. He thought not for him alone, but for his team. He allegedly offered to waive his talent fee as long as the production team and other cast members will be compensated. On his own, he can even extend help for the ones in the production who really need assistance. KA knows the time is right to pay back the network that made him into the person he is now.

Repost: Kapamilya Talents and Managers Agree on Pay Reductions to Support Network

Kapamilya artists with currently airing shows and their talent managers have agreed to take a cut in their talent fees to help the network deal with the impact of the shutdown of its TV and radio operations.

“We are grateful to all our artists for their understanding and support for the network during these difficult times. We thank them for keeping the passion and commitment to bring joy and entertainment to our audience in the midst of the pandemic and the shutdown,” said ABS-CBN chief operating officer of broadcast Cory Vidanes.

The reduction in talent fees is one of the cost-saving measures undertaken by ABS-CBN as it continues to lose P30 to 35 million in daily advertising revenues due to the broadcast shutdown, as well as the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to stricter production guidelines for tapings and staging of live entertainment shows.

Professional Artist Managers Inc. (PAMI) president June Rufino said the group of talent managers fully understands the situation of ABS-CBN and did not object to the plan.

Rufino said PAMI members acknowledge the support, professional development, and job opportunities that ABS-CBN has given to their talents through the years.

“In good times, ABS-CBN has been with us. In bad times, we want to be there for them. Ngayon alam nila, wala ang ABS-CBN. Naiintindihan nila iyon. We want to cooperate. We want to help ABS-CBN in whatever way we can and taking a pay cut is one way to do that,” she said.

When Rufino spoke to her artists about the plan, she said her artists feel sad about the company’s situation.

“ABS-CBN has always been in the service of the Filipino. Kapag may calamities, ‘yung ABS-CBN ang nauunang tumulong. Now, it’s time for us to pay it forward,” said Rufino.

The network recently brought back some of its teleseryes and live entertainment shows via the Kapamilya Channel on cable and satellite TV nationwide. These include “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano,” “A Soldier’s Heart,” “Love Thy Woman,” “Magandang Buhay,” “The Voice Teens,” “ASAP Natin ‘To,” and “It’s Showtime.” It also launched two new shows namely “Paano Kita Mapapasalamatan” and “Iba Yan.”

“We will continue to serve the Filipino through Kapamilya Channel on cable, satellite TV, and iWant,” said Vidanes.

No Comeback

The Covid-19 pandemic has greatly affected the entertainment industry. With no work for several months, talents in front and behind the cameras have been affected, as most of them are paid on a daily basis. However, concerned government agencies have realized that work has to resume, but production teams have to follow protocols. Failure to follow guidelines will mean the cancellation of the production itself.

Networks, meanwhile, have to make do with the limited resources available. The lack of regular programming during the past months have repercussions on network revenues. Thus, networks are implementing cost-cutting measures for the meantime. For example, makeup artists have been left out in the cold, as talents have to do their own makeup to limit the number of people and thus, minimize contact.

With the number of production people limited, the next item addressed by management would be which projects to pursue. The obvious criterion was the high rating. Once the programs were determined, the management had to list the actors to be prioritized. Several talents wanted to work because their funds were low. By contrast, others wanted to return to the limelight even if they had sufficient funds.

In one network, another criterion was allegedly added to filter the talent pool. An executive raised the point of looking into the talents who were most helpful in pursuing the vision of the management. Talents were thus scrutinized and even the vocal and non-vocal talents were identified. Common names were given and subsequently given the heads up that they will not be part of the returning team. For example, Prominent Celebrities (PCs) were among the talents in the list. Although PCs have social media following, their shows did not do well in the ratings. More importantly, PCs were perceived to be unhelpful in staying loyal to the survival of the network. In the meantime, management will later decide if PCs could eventually return in the future.

The Preferred Path

When Network Celebrity (NC) was overseas, he made a point to see what Project Partner (PP) was busy with. NC and PP had dinner and were seen allegedly entering PP’s hotel afterwards. Later, NC and PP were again abroad at the same time. The latter invited the former again, but NC’s Wife (NW) found out about the invitation. Subsequently, NC and NW almost got into a tussle over the invitation. Back in the country, PP would invite NC, who would be responsive. However, his family noticed something, which made NC choose who was more important in his life. Obviously, PP was not his choice.

Rumors have it that PP’s marriage is shaky, but PP is not one who will broadcast her life choices to the public. Allegedly, the lack of time for each other was the cause. PP’s Husband (PH) has his own profession and so does PP. Their expectations for their marriage did not happen. Time was the culprit and the demands of their jobs were heavy. What is also being sounded off in the grapevine is that PH has his affair and provided a home for his mistress. Meanwhile, PP had been secretly hoping for PH to have an affair, so she can justify her actions in case she goes astray as well.

Fate can be funny. PP and PH allegedly opened up and talked about their situation. They agreed to go their separate ways, but no details were to be made public to save their family image. While PP continued to pine for NC, he had remained firm on focusing on his family and avoiding possible paths toward temptation.

Too Real

The pair-up of Network Actor (NA) and Talented Actress (TA) was long-awaited, as their partnership was new and exciting. To make the project interesting, the script had love scenes, which NA and TA did not mind. As NA and TA have had several projects and proven their acting skills, the director trusted the two to do what they could to make the love scenes realistic. The instruction seemed to be a no-brainer, as the two are professionals.

The first love scene required the two to kiss passionately. So, the two locked lips as required and the shots were made to capture the emotion of the scene. NA was shocked as TA suddenly inserted her tongue in his mouth and became playful. Although NA felt awkward, he had to respond and played along with TA. The director cut the scene and said it was a good take. TA did not say anything.

The next day, the set was prepared for the second love scene. This time, the requirements were harder than the day before, as the two were going to be in bed. The scene required simulations of lovemaking styles and once again, the director gave NA and TA the freedom. NA had done many love scenes with other actresses, but TA was different. TA was supposed to pretend to remove the pants of NA, but then she inserted her hand into his underwear and touched his manhood. NA was feeling hesitant, but the cameras continued to roll and once again, the take was good.

NA felt he was taken advantage of and thought of how actresses would be vocal when they felt actors made touching in scenes malicious. Although he thought of complaining about NA’s behavior, he feared the possible scandal and the fact that TA has a stronger reputation than him. NA also did not want to embarrass TA.

NA confided to a handler, who asked if he had his mind made up to complain to the production about TA’s being extra touchy. What stopped them was the possible questions, such as if he and TA connived during the scene or if he enjoyed being with TA. Finally, NA decided not to pursue his complaint. Later, one of his friends found out about what happened. This friend allegedly knew of TA’s reputation during love scenes, but he did not speak about it. Thus, after the incidents, NA told his manager that he should no longer be paired with TA to avoid awkward moments.

The Outburst

As soon as Busy Actor (BA) finished his surprising outburst, he realized how much he had hurt his Young Wife (YW). Suddenly, they became aware that reality had caught up with them and playing house was over. YW saw the dreadful side of BA, who regretted what he had done.

BA blew his top upon hearing a request made by YW. When he heard what she was asking, his anger rose and his words were unstoppable. YW was shocked and watched in silence. Arguing was useless, but the way BA presented his side left much to be desired.

Over the past days, YW has been bugged with requests to see a Family Member (FM), as according to an Influential Insider (II), FM has been missing her. Thus, YW contemplated on asking BA if she could attend to the request of II. When YW told BA about the situation, he could no longer contain his thoughts. The bottom line was that he refused to let YW see FM. Allegedly, BA called FM ‘evil’. Moreover, BA pointed out that FM treated YW as a commodity, which led to his point that FM only wanted YW for her money. BA no longer wanted a repeat of the possibility that FM might just be pretending to gain the sympathy of YW and he has undergone so much with FM. The loud voice of BA silenced YW and she did not react anymore. When he was done, BA felt regret and knelt in front of YW. He profusely apologized and said he was caught unaware.

What BA and YW did not know was that his meltdown was heard by His Parent (HP). HP took her authority seriously and reprimanded BA not to repeat the incident. HP was worried as BA has a history of letting his temper take over and in the past, he was involved with altercations with other personalities. Apparently, BA had to undergo therapy to deal with his behavior. However, his busy schedule prevented him from continuing. Thus, HP advised BA to seek a medical professional, as he might take out his frustration at YW in the future. BA declined the idea and promised he will no longer let any outburst happen in the future.

Not Following Instructions

When a group of artists decided to work together for a common project, the behind-the-scene preparations were more interesting than the outcome. Decisions were made as to which artists to cast. As the talent pool is rich, the participants were chosen to reach out to various groups of fans. The gamble was worth it, as fans reacted as expected.

During the preparation, the team was hesitant on allowing Member One (MO) to join them. MO is known to be hard to work with and having a mind of her own can be troublesome. The other members braced themselves for MO’s behavior. Luckily, all the members, including MO, were passionate. The project was fulfilled and post-plans were decided. One crucial item was the date of release. With or without the pandemic, the timing of showing can make or break a project.

The team agreed on a common date of presenting the said project. The schedule was set, but everyone was shocked, as MO released the project ahead of everyone else. MO did not care, as she did not follow the agreement on the schedule. The other project members were very disappointed, but not surprised. MO has a reputation within the circle as difficult, which they knew anyway. Rumors have it that MO was not really part of the project, but was asked to join, as her presence could arouse interest. Her presence did, but her post-project behavior proved expectations about her attitude.
