  1. Where is Nipah virus found?
Human outbreaks of Nipah virus have only been identified in South and South-East Asia, primarily in rural or semi-rural locations. Countries with previously reported outbreaks include:

Bangladesh (where cases have occurred almost annually since 2001)
India (including outbreaks in Kerala in Southern India since 2018, and a current outbreak in West Bengal)
    Malaysia
    The Philippines
    Singapore

  4. If you rely on social media for info, better follow reliable sources. For medical info esp infectious diseases, better follow Doc Edsel Malvana -- not celebrities.

    Doc's post:
Getting lots of queries about Nipah virus. Just a few facts:

    1. No suspected local cases so far.

    2. Nipah presents with flu-like symptoms following exposure to bats, horses or pigs. Other animals possible but those are the most common. Worst complication is encephalitis with 40 to 70% mortality.

    3. We had an outbreak in 2014 in Sultan Kudarat, it killed 9 of 15 cases and was linked to eating contaminated meat from a sick horse. It was controlled with conventional quarantine protocols.

    4. No vaccine or effective treatment but there is active research looking at both.

    5. Nipah has low pandemic potential since it is not efficiently transferred between humans. This is not another COVID-19.

No need to panic. Stay alert and listen to reputable agencies like DOH and WHO for advice and stay away from fake news. Stay safe!

    3. Smart initiatives by airports ramping up Nipah screenings across Asia!. Early detection beats dealing with a bigger mess later—better safe than sorry when it comes to stuff like this. Stay cautious out there! It’s a deadly virus with no cure and vaccine! 😷

Sobrang galing nilang magsulat at magmulat.
