Serious Backfiring

Versatile Actress (VA) perhaps has everything that one can hope for in a network talent. She’s loyal and once she started her career in her present network, never did she entertain the idea of moving anywhere else. Then, she has one of the most beautiful faces, which comes from a good-looking lineage. Over the years, she has honed her acting skills and has even earned praises and recognition for her portrayal of roles.

VA is a reliable performer as well. Her performances on stage are always awaited and fans look forward to her numbers. Thus, the network entrusted to her a major role in a big project where she is working with two performers who are highly respected for their quality performances. In the project, VA and her team are required to give spontaneous insights. VA was as enthusiastic as the others in expressing her opinion and she’s making good points until she tried to go head-to-head with her fellow panelists in speaking in English.

VA is not exactly known for her skills in English and her attempts resulted in what she deemed was comedic. Given her grammar errors, VA would simply laugh them off. The production team said that they will resort to editing to remove the errors of VA. However, in the succeeding episodes, VA continued her style, which was no longer sitting well with the executives. The project requires expert opinion and not funny statements that might not be helpful at all. Besides, the quality of the project might be affected and if the public gets wind of VA’s errors, the image of the project might be ruined. Editing could no longer fix VA’s antics.

Having no choice, the production team met with VA and informed her of their concern. VA was instructed to speak in Filipino or Taglish and leave the English to her co-workers. VA laughed off the suggestion to save face obviously. However, VA has no choice but to follow, as no other show has been lined up except for this big project.

‘Your grammar is a reflection of your image. Good or bad, you have made an impression. And like all impressions, you are in total control.’ - Jeffrey Gitomer

Can’t Sit With Us

The statement was meant as a joke, but Serious Talent (ST) opted to recall the saying, “Jokes are half-meant.” Graciously, ST acted with respect toward Devout Relation (DR) who said his “joke” in the midst of a clan gathering. As he has spent much time with the clan, ST felt like he already belonged, enough to be treated as a family member, but the words of DR embarrassed him and plunged him to reality.

Typical of any gathering, a clan photo is a must for DR’s family. ST happens to be with Close Kin (CK) of DR and he was present at that moment. When everyone started gathering, DR chided ST that he can only join them once he weds CK, which would make him an official clan member. Contrary to rumors, ST and CK have not legally changed their status. To save his face, ST volunteered to take the photo even if DR took back his statement. DR could not help it, as he is into religious practices.

Over dinner, DR talked to CK on the state of her relationship, that is, the date when ST will take her to the altar. Candidly, CK said that ST has yet to propose. As ST was within hearing distance, teasing started. One quipped that ST might surprise CK with a proposal at that moment. ST only smiled at what he heard.

Allegedly, ST is not a staunch believer in marriage, as he prefers partnership. He’s not so much into a permanent commitment witnessed by the public. His stand was one of the reasons why his previous relationships failed, especially the last one, which fans thought would lead to his forever. Whenever the issue of marriage would come up, ST would shy away from the discussion. He probably fears the solemn road to forever or the responsibility that goes with the piece of paper. Nonetheless, optimism remains as circumstances with CK might make him change his mind.

‘To be fully seen by somebody, then, and be loved anyhow - this is a human offering that can border on miraculous.’ ― Elizabeth Gilbert

Repost: The Full List of Winners of the Golden Globes 2019

In a Golden Globes chock full of upsets, the Freddie Mercury biopic "Bohemian Rhapsody" took best picture, drama, over Bradley Cooper's heavily favoured "A Star is Born" and Glenn Close bested Lady Gaga for best actress.

It was a good night for Britain, with Olivia Colman winning the best actress in a comedy or musical prize for playing Queen Anne in The Favourite.

She collected the prize, saying: "Cor blimey, thank you so much. I'm not going to cry because my entire table will point and laugh at me."

Fellow British star Christian Bale took the stage for winning best actor in a musical or comedy for his lead performance in Adam McKay's "Vice."

"What do you think? Mitch McConnell next?" joked the Welsh-born actor, referring to the Senate's majority leader. "Thank you to Satan for giving me inspiration for this role."

Few winners were seen as more certain than Lady Gaga as best actress in a drama at Sunday's ceremony at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. But the veteran actress Close pulled off the shocker for her performance in "The Wife," as the spouse of a Nobel Prize-winning author.
