Just Don’t Meddle

When Legal Guardian (LG) and Her Ward (HW) signed up with a network, they were briefed with the do’s and don’ts of the contract as well as practices adhered to by the station. As these are obviously ethical guidelines, the network expected LG to make sure HW will keep the image that is being groomed for someone in her caliber.

Typical of handlers who are family members and who assume several roles in the career of a talent, LG started making people feel who she was in the life of HW. That attitude made her popular and notorious among the production people. Most often, every action required of HW has to be told to LG. Had LG been more pleasant, the staff would not mind seeing her often. However, LG was not the kind of person whom people would respect. She was deemed negative in all aspects, and people would rather stay away from her, and consequently, this attitude affected the career of HW.

Slowly, programs were no longer coming to the way of HW, but she remained with the network, who was probably teaching her camp, the value of patience. LG could not wait and thus worked around the protocol by starting to book out of town shows for HW. These shows were allegedly for certain beneficiaries, and gave the impression that LG and HW truly cared.

While the shows were forgivable, the network was alarmed upon learning that LG gave permission for HW to endorse products left and right. These products were not of popular brands, but for small ones that would hardly dent the market. Once these brands are associated with HW, her image might be affected, which could become problematic for the network. Adding to the woes of the network is that no road manager, handler, or network staff was willing to work with LG and HW. The main reason is that LG is hard to work with. Thus, management called for a meeting to check on the behavior of LG and HW. As LG was feeling confident that a new project for HW will be in the offing, she was shocked when someone revealed her little schemes, such as bookings and endorsements that were done without informing the network. Thus, LG realized to keep HW in the network, she has to play by the rules, or else.

‘This modern mania for interfering in other's lives, usually under the guise of health and safety concerns, is highly irritating and counterproductive. Down with the nanny state.’ – Felix Dennis

Repost: President Rodrigo Duterte Tops Time Magazine's Poll

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte won the 2017 TIME 100 poll after consistently leading the survey, which asked readers who should be included on this year's TIME 100 — an annual list of the world's most influential people.

Duterte received 5% of the total "yes" votes in the poll, which closed Sunday night. Since taking office in June, Duterte has waged an aggressive war on drugs that has killed more than 8,000 people in the Phillippines, according to Reuters. The controversial anti-drug campaign has inspired growing opposition from human rights groups and some political leaders, including Philippine Vice President Leni Robredo.

Closely following Duterte in the TIME 100 poll were Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Pope Francis, Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg — all of whom received 3% of the total "yes" votes.

U.S. Bernie Sanders won the reader poll in 2016 while Russian President Vladimir Putin took the lead in 2015.

The official TIME 100 list, which is selected by TIME's editors, will be announced on April 20.

Arrogance that Cost His Acting Career

The greatest downfall of any person is hubris, which means excessive pride in the Greek context. This arrogance of humans often brings the wrath of gods, which reminds people that every gain has an end. Unfortunately, Distraught Talent (DT) is now feeling the consequences of his high and mighty attitude even though he has not really made a mark in his network.

When DT was discovered, the network had high hopes for him. After all, he could sing, had the perfect physique, and was loved by the audience. The network believed DT had much potential. However, his major project bombed at ratings and was thus cut short than the usual lifespan of a normal teleserye. Still, the network gave him several chances and endorsements were coming his way. He also seemed to have found a partner for a loveteam that had a following. However, his projects, and he was getting the best compared to his contemporaries, continued to rate poorly.

As the network was planning to improve the stock of his career, DT made a move that stunned the industry. He dared the management, as he was made to believe that he could strike on his own. He could not, as the person whom he believed was a newbie in the industry who obviously overlooked that DT was tied to a contract. Still, despite his attitude toward work, the network still gave him interesting projects and paired him off with female leads who could pull up his dying career. Instead of making good, DT would come late for tapings, be arrogant, and give his directors headaches. Time came and the network let him go.

The timing was not good at all. DT is in need of a means to support his family. He has also messed up the career of his partner, who was in good standing with the network until he got her in the interesting stage. Thus, her career had to end, and with it, the potential income from her project. Until recently, the network was keen on her coming back, but DT hurled statements at the station and its staff. These accusations could very well affect the possibility of his partner returning to the network. Incidentally, the family of his partner had to talk to her and remind her that while love seems to be important at this point in her career, practical considerations need to be prioritized. Both she and DT do not have work, and that is alarming.

Although he is sending feelers to rival networks, the responses are cold. After all, DT has an attitude problem and his acting skills require more workshops, which he refused to attend allegedly when he was still with a network. Thus, DT would have to work at convincing these networks to give him a chance. To earn that second chance, DT should learn to humble himself and go with the flow, or else, he might never ever return to the limelight.

‘Vanity and pride are different things, though the words are often used synonymously. A person may be proud without being vain. Pride relates more to our opinion of ourselves, vanity to what we would have others think of us.’ ― Jane Austen
