Repost: Lorna Tolentino Worry Over the Way the Case of Mark Anthony Fernandez is Being Handled by Officers

The human rights of former matinee idol Mark Anthony Fernandez may have been violated when he was presented to the media Tuesday afternoon without a lawyer present, argued her stepmother, actress Lorna Tolentino.

Speaking with ABS-CBN News' Mario Dumaual, the screen veteran said, without going into details, that she is currently consulting her legal team regarding the case of her stepson, who was arrested Monday evening in Pampanga for alleged possession of a kilo of marijuana.

Under the Republic Act No. 7438, or the Rights of Persons Arrested, Detained or under Custodial Investigation, "any person arrested detained or under custodial investigation shall at all times be assisted by counsel."

On Tuesday, police officers interviewed Fernandez, who admitted that he uses marijuana for medical purposes as suggested by his doctor and father, without a lawyer in front of reporters.

At one point, Pampanga Regional Police head Aaron Aquino suggested that Fernandez's doctor should be charged as well for telling the actor that he can freely use the illegal substance.

Fernandez is represented by Atty. Sylvia Flores, who claimed to have not been informed by the police regarding the media presentation of her client.

Meanwhile, action star Robin Padilla, Fernandez's uncle, said he was relieved when he learned that his nephew was not killed when he was being apprehended.

“Purihin ang Panginoong Maylikha, mahal kong Pamangkin... Nakahinga ako nang maluwag at naglulumuhod sa pasasalamat sa nag-iisang Dios na makapangyarihan at ikaw ay buhay, Mark. Hindi kami mapapatawad ng tatay mo kung may nangyaring masama sa iyo,” Padilla wrote.

He then thanked Director General Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa and the Angeles City PNP for handling Fernandez’s case properly.

Fernandez, the son of actress Alma Moreno and the late actor Rudy Fernandez, claimed that the marijuana found in his car was planted. This, after admitting in an interview a day before that he bought the illegal substance for P15,000.

Venturing in the Bold Decision to Pursue Young Love

The story of star-crossed lovers, ‘Romeo and Juliet’ is a favorite theme in movies, and sometimes, parallels real life. Both parties are enemies or at the very least, are not in favor of the lovers. Hence, the lovers have to resort to means to keep their love.

In local showbiz, whenever a similar story to that of ‘Romeo and Juliet’ is budding, expect one of the parties to put its foot down and destroy the relationship. In particular, career comes first before love. For those who heed the elders and end their craziness over young love, they realize that the advice was indeed worth following. By contrast, those who defy the wishes of their families and friends for the sake of love could either discover their mistake too late or realize that they indeed made the right choice.

When Young Actor (YA) broke into showbusiness, he immediately captured the audience with his down-to-earth acting and perfect fit for the role of sidekick. In short, YA was a natural in front of the camera. However, YA was passing through adolescence, which made his offers fewer. His followers even thought he had left the industry, as he was no longer visible on TV.

When an outfit took a chance to cast YA in a significant role in an acclaimed movie, his followers were shocked to see that YA had grown into a teenager. He, however, still had the personality that he exuded early in his career. It was during this point that people noticed YA was very happy, and he introduced to them Pretty Girlfriend (PG) who was making him happy. Noticeable was their constant displays of affection, which people dismissed as signs of young love.

Barely out his teens, YA shocked people when he declared PG his forever. When the family of PG read and watched interviews of YA expressing his affection, they were in disbelief at the seemingly deep level of the relationship between YA and PG. Even if they tried to prevent further development by expressing their disappointment, every comment was too late. YA and PG were too in love.

To indicate the depth of their love for each other, PG is said to be already in the interesting stage. People have seen the couple in the mall, and PG is allegedly no longer hiding her pregnancy. With a family facing him, it is not a wonder that YA has been visible lately. He needs projects to support his family, and he could only do that via what he knows best, which is acting. Meanwhile, PG, regardless of her age, has obviously defied the stance of her family. As both are very young, YA and PG are facing a tough challenge, as unlike Romeo and Juliet, they have a promising family to raise.

‘That's one of the first things that comes out of young people's mouths when they're in love. FOREVER. And that's cool, it's all good-until you get old enough to realize what forever is.’― Ice-T

Repost: Policewomen in Photo with Mark Anthony Fernandez May Face Reprimand from PNP

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Dir. Gen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa called out the lady cops who were caught taking pictures with actor Mark Anthony Fernandez after he was arrested for possessing a kilogram of marijuana in San Fernando, Pampanga on Tuesday.

Although Dela Rosa said he understands that the two Angeles City policewomen may have been “overwhelmed” with Fernandez’s presence, the police chief said they could face administrative complaint for conduct unbecoming of a police officer.

“I don’t like that picture because as law enforcers, ano ba? Na-starstruck ka pa rin sa isang criminal offender, ‘di ba? Hinuli siya ‘di ba at ngayon magpapapicture ka pa doon? On the other hand, naiintindihan ko rin naman ang aking mga policewomen dahil nakalimutan siguro nila na sila ay pulis,” dela Rosa said in an interview on Wednesday.

(I don’t like that picture because as law enforcers, what are you thinking? You act starstruck in front of a criminal offender, right? He was nabbed, yet you would ask for a photo with him? On the other hand, I understand my policewomen because they might have forgotten they are police officers.)

“Na-overwhelm lang sila, nakalimutan nila na sila’y pulis. Nangingibabaw sa kanila yung kanilang pagka-movie fan siguro o pagka-dalaga or pagka-babae na nakita nila ‘yung actor na magandang lalaki, nagpapaselfie sila  (They were overwhelmed and might have forgotten they are police officers so their being movie fans and women dominated when they saw the good-looking actor and they took a selfie with him) so I both hate that picture at the same time, I understand by police women for their actuation,” dela Rosa added.

The two policewomen drew flak on social media after their photo with the 37-year-old actor went viral. In the photo, Fernandez was wearing the same polo shirt when the police presented him to the media at Camp Olivas in Pampanga. Fernandez denied owning the marijuana but admitted he uses the illegal substance as a cure for cancer.

Dela Rosa said he was concerned that the public might think the police have double standard in handling drug suspects.

“Baka sabihin nila that there is a double standard sa policing at law enforcement na ginagawa natin. Sa ordinaryong drug user or pusher eh saksak agad doon sa selda eh pag itong artista eh nagpapaselfie pa ‘yung mga pulis,” he said.

(The public might think that that there is a double standard in our policing and law enforcement. An ordinary drug user or pusher is put immediately inside the cell whereas when an actor was caught, the police officers were asking for a selfie.)

The police chief said he will refer the incident to the PNP’s Internal Affairs Service (IAS), the unit which probes erring cops.

“I will refer this matter to the Internal Affairs Service. Tanungin ko sila kung ano nalalabag nila na policies, ano nalalabag nila na batas (I would ask them what policies and law the policewomen have violated),” he said.

But unlike dela Rosa, Central Luzon police director Chief Supt. Aaron Aquino thinks the policewomen did not commit any violation.

“But pagsasabihan ko sila na hindi proper magpa-picture sa isang suspect. Nagkataon lang naman kasi na celebrity ‘yung suspect. Hindi naman nila ‘yun sinasadya (But I would reprimand them that it is not appropriate to take photos with a suspect. It just happened that the suspect is a celebrity. They didn’t mean to do it),” Aquino said.

Repost: Krista Miller’s Camp Insists Actress Not Drug Pusher

Source: www.gmanetwork.com

The camp of actress Krista Miller on Tuesday insisted that she is not a drug pusher, but the Quezon City police said that the evidence against her is strong.

In an exclusive report on Unang Balita on Wednesday, GMA News' reporter Marisol Abdurahman quoted the actress as saying that she would not grant any interview with media this time.

At the Quezon City Police District Office where Krista is being held, her father appealed to the public not to judge his daughter, insisting that she is not a drug pusher, report said.

Krista's lawyer Atty. Ramon Vargas told GMA News that she is innocent. "Based on my interview with her, she was not after selling drugs."

On the hand, the police insisted they have strong evidence against Krista.

Senior Supt. Guillermo Eleazar said, "Nasa list natin siya, may information tayo sa kanyang activities."

Four celebrities have already been arrested in the intensified drive against illegal drugs under the Rodrigo Duterte administration. These include: DJ Karen Bordador, Sabrina M, Krista Miller, and Mark Anthony Fernandez

Kapisanan ng mga Artista sa Pelikulang Pilipino at Telebisyon president Rez Cortez appealed to celebrities into illegal drugs: “Bago umabot doon sa point na aarestuhin kayo, idedemanda at baka humantong sa pagkamatay or pagkasugat ng isang artista, tigilan na natin.”

Also, Cortez said the organization is trying to police its own ranks, but he appealed to authorities, if possible,  not make public the names of celebrities arrested in anti-illegal drugs operations. — LBG, GMA News

Maybe It’s Not Yet The Right Time

Just as when her career seems to be on the upswing again, Well-loved Actress (WA) might be disproving such perceptions. Ever since, WA graced the entertainment industry, hopes were high that she would become one of the top endorsers in the country. This notion means that her face and reputation could both assure a product of high sales and positive impressions. However, rumors have it that WA might not be bringing in as much revenue as anticipated.

Sometime ago, WA was considered a favorite endorser because of her good registry on screen. Her face was refreshing and her endorsements became popular. However, one incident in of her commercials made advertisers think twice of how WA should act in front of the camera.

After her comeback, several endorsements were lined up and were just waiting for the final signature. However, such endorsements are still hanging in the air. Rumors have it that the equivalent of all those endorsements is beyond seven figures. The potential earning of WA and commission of her talent agency were put on hold because of several unforeseen circumstances.

For example, the recent project WA had with her network did not register the high rating the series was expected to generate. Although the presence of WA was meant to add interest to the show, viewership was not enough then to attract advertisers. The support of the network is strong for WA. Despite the series, WA had a prior show, which was her primary responsibility. While the show seemed to be doing well, the network ended the run and said that it was just really meant for a number of episodes. Still, what kibitzers could not stop saying is that, according to them, WA no longer has the ‘it’ factor. In other words, despite the change in image, the career of WA has not reached investment returns as expected. Naturally, a network cannot live on pretty faces all along, it needs to reinvent and seek new talents, shows, and gimmicks to entice viewership. Perhaps, for WA, the timing is not yet right.

‘Patience is power. Patience is not an absence of action; rather it is ‘timing,’ it waits on the right time to act, for the right principles and in the right way.’ – Fulton J. Sheen
