Not a Good Attitude

Celebrities who are aware that their future depends on network decisions either simply do as instructed in their contracts or butter up to the management. While some celebrities are too shy to approach the management for their requests, others are assertive and even aggressive at making sure the bosses notice them. While others would label this attitude as good camaraderie, others view such action otherwise. Nonetheless, for Feisty Celebrity (FC), her camp is viewed as cajoling to make sure she gets as many projects as possible.

Trying to be chummy to the management is not really a major issue had FC not been involved in various instances that indicated her crassness, despite her well-educated background. In terms of acting, FC could deliver, but can sometimes overdo her roles, which has led to some viewers turned off by her antics. Still, some are wondering why she still gets so many projects even though she did enter the network quite late.

While FC tries to appear lovable on screen, her personality off screen is questionable. Her behavior during one of her shopping sprees left the clerks wondering why she could behave in such a way that is different from her personality on television. When FC entered the store, she pointed at the clothes she wanted and these pieces of clothing were brought to her to try. After fitting some clothes, the clerks were shocked at her behavior when she did not like the ones brought to her. FC would throw the clothes at the waiting clerks and tell them in a loud voice that she does not want the clothes at all.

As FC even prides herself as among the rare showbiz personalities who finished a degree from a reputable private school, the store clerks were too disappointed at her behavior. She could have been nicer and respectful in treating the ones who were attending to her needs. Thus, whenever FC returns to the store, none of the clerks would willingly want to assist her.

Although FC might seem confident of her position in the network, someone should remind her that negative attitude can eventually make her lose following. Moreover, FC should be wary that the network might realize that she should learn to stand on her own instead of holding on to the coattails of her powerful connections. With that scenario, FC might find herself lacking projects and her contact, unable to do anything.

Fashion PULIS Calls the Attention of White Palace Spa Owner(s)

Dear JC (owner of White Palace Spa):

A few weeks ago, I called your receptionist Harlene, to complain about one of your therapists. The said therapist who came to my place offered me 'extra service' halfway through my Swedish massage. When I turned him down, he immediately cut short my one hour session.

I felt shortchanged so I called Harlene to tell her about the incident. More than three weeks have passed and I never got a feedback from your company. Is this the kind of customer service you give to your loyal customer who avails of your spa's service 2-3 times a week?

Oh, by the way, Harlene has been telling other therapists that I am a 'maarte' client because of my complaint.

Putting Too Much Priority on the Budget

Consumer product manufacturers are now quick to capitalize on the popularity of celebrities. Celebrities, especially those who can amass followers, are usually chosen for commercials. Sometimes, commercials can become the break for an unknown person to be propelled into stardom. Quite a number of celebrities started their careers by appearing in print or TV ads.

When celebrities have proven that their popularity can translate into sales for a particular product, expect other companies to get these celebrities. Thus, a celebrity can be endorsing a product for telecommunications, real estate, cars, food, restaurants, etc. In exchange for the hefty talent fee, an endorser must behave within the rules of the contract. For example, if Celebrity A is in an ad for product A, then he should not be seen with anything that has to do with the competing brand.

While an individual may be an effective endorser, sometimes companies may also opt for loveteams or a group of talents for their products. A concept is easier to formulate with a loveteam or a group, as the theme and storyline would usually take advantage of the image of the partnership. However, hiring a group could create complicated negotiations, as each celebrity in the said group has his/her own manager. Besides, a camp might think that their talent is worth more than the other.

For some managers, the number of endorsements of a celebrity spells success because the talent would have exposure and earn more. Thus, when a company offered the group of Celebrity Performer (CP) to join a commercial for a popular product, the first thing that CP asked was the talent fee. When CP found out, he negotiated if he could get a little more than the others in the group who would be appearing with him. Given their advertising budget, the company was hesitant in agreeing with the request of CP and thus, CP was informed that he would just be dropped. The budget could not afford the fee he requested.

Some talents, out of pride, would just drop the offer and move on. However, when CP found out that the company would rather not hire him at the rate he proposed, CP suddenly adhered to the original fee. Finally, the commercial pushed through and CP had ample exposure in the said ad. If CP were conspicuously absent in the ad, the viewers will easily notice his absence. CP could then be bombarded with queries why he was not part of the said ad, which might not be a good thing. Luckily, CP changed his mind at the right time.
