To catch up with the times, television shows usually undergo changes to make sure they retain the present audience and attract more viewers. While some shows take the common path of using a tried formula, others take the risk to become trailblazers and set standards for similar types of shows. New gimmicks and new styles could either click with the audience, and thus, the show can enjoy years of airtime. However, not all changes could successfully respond to the dynamism of the times.
When the hosts of this program (TP) decided to venture into activities that might be in conflict with their image and the station, they had to go on leave or resign until matters are clear. For instance, because of personal beliefs, some talents have to take a break to avoid straining the network from comments coming from viewers. Others simply opt to choose the one show that best embodies their talents and let go of other shows that might compromise their views. Thus, when Controversial Host (CH) decided to go on leave, the void was not as easy to fill.
Over the years, CH and the other hosts have established a certain rapport with the audience. Hence, the absence was noticeable. Initially, several talents were considered to replace CH, until the choice was down to Veteran Host (VH) and Younger Talent (YT). In terms of hosting, VH and YT were honed with similar but diverse experiences. VH was already an established name when YT was just starting out. VH has had extensive experiences that even challenged her personal circumstances. By contrast, YT had to move on because of a principled misunderstanding with her previous bosses.
When the choice was made as to the permanent replacement of CH, VH was surprised that she was left out. Thus, she sought an audience with the management why she was not the one. VH had stayed longer with the network, had successful solo programs, and a more solid name than YT. Besides, she was homegrown, whereas YT was not. While VH has nothing more to prove, the position of CH was prestigious, as the show is a flagship program of the network.
Alas, VH had to hear the rationale of the choice. VH was informed that the other hosts were hard hitting, and YT was the one who could soften up the tense atmosphere of the program. Thus, the reasoning implied that the presence of VH would add more seriousness to the program, which might not sit well with the audience of that timeslot. Nonetheless, VH was given a later spot in the network, but then, the earlier slot was more coveted. Being professional, VH had to overcome the initial hard feelings, accept the management decision, and move on.
