Misunderstanding Over a Parent's Relationship

A common practice in the entertainment industry is the plunging of second or third generation children into acting or singing. While this phenomenon can be merely dismissed as “following in the footsteps” of parents, the younger generation has to deal with making a name for himself/herself without having to drag the name of famous parents. However, not all children have the looks or the talents that made their parents big. Sometimes, they enter showbiz because they are scions of famous celebrities. In other words, they try to establish careers because that is expected from them. Consequently, some do not last long, as they do not have the interest to pursue acting or that they could no longer stand being compared to their parents.

Having been born to talented parents, Captivating Star (CS) was destined for a career in the entertainment industry as the second generation of a showbiz clan. When CS finally made it big, his family benefitted from his earnings. Unlike other actors who forget about their family once they become successful, CS always stressed that he is doing everything to make sure he gives a better life for his family. Particularly, CS has always been close to His Mother (HM), who struggled to give him and his siblings a comfortable life prior to him getting his fame and fortune.

While all seems to be well, the grapevine says otherwise. Allegedly, CS found out the HM is supporting a boyfriend. This discovery did not sit well with CS and he confronted HM about this issue. In fairness to HM, she said that she was not using his money, as she has her own money that came from her shows and own endeavor. HM insisted that she is working hard to make sure that she does not touch the hard-earned money of CS. Despite the reasoning, CS was still unconvinced and he did not like the idea of HM supporting another man regardless of the fact that she was using her own resources. Moreover, his image might be affected simply because of HM’s alleged behavior. Although they have had typical family disagreements, this issue has caused tension and CS is still much bothered by the demeanor of HM.

Reconciling a Major Verdict

The entertainment industry today is controlled not by popular and big-name stars, but by people behind the cameras. The latter makes decisions that actually affect the popularity of stars. For example, good marketing can promote a talentless personality into stardom. Ignoring a talented performer by limiting his/her exposure can kill potential popularity and propagation of true talent. Thus, stars have to play with the rules if they want to be assured of projects and exposure. Not all management decisions are advantageous to talents, regardless of their clout. When a major talent is not agreeable with a decision, he/she has a couple of options, which are stay on and wait or move out.

Over the past weeks, a question has been lingering, “Is a major talent (MT) about to fly the coop?” When a show was cancelled and replaced by a new one, majority of the talents found themselves with no projects and no guarantee of exposure from the network. The effect of cancellation is not only on singers or performers, but also on production people. Thus, several persons and families are affected whenever a project ends or is cancelled.

When the cast of the replacement show (RS) was announced, people were expecting the inclusion of MT. However, MT was never mentioned in the final lineup, although she was previously named to be part of a new show along with some cast members of RS. Allegedly, this decision did not sit well with MT.

Being a top talent in the network, MT is looked up to as a mentor, and younger talents of the cancelled show have treated MT with such respect. MT felt for talents who have lost the opportunity to work with and learn from seasoned performers like her and others. However, she could not do anything, as the decision came from the top.

So, what could she do? Allegedly, MT has sent feelers that she wants to join her former station (FS). As stories are floating that FS intends to revive a show that is very close to MT’s heart, MT seems perfect for the show. In fact, if it were not for this show, MT would not be where she is now. Will the network lose MT sooner than expected? While MT will be welcomed at FS, will she be treated with higher status compared to her present network? Alternatively, will the management of her present network act before it’s too late? Losing MT will definitely be a blow to its status at this point.
