I cannot wait for the time na lahat (or most) ay QUALITY films na ang ipapalabas sa mga movie festivals like MMFF. Hindi yung puro "basura" or low quality films.
I guess we're slowly getting there with JLC, Piolo, and other mainstream actors doing indie films. It is definitely a good START.

If anyone deserves to star in a film like this, it is JL. I guess getting to do movies as such, and his upcoming one with Lav Diaz was part of his contract deal with ABS. Masyado din kasi syang natali sa romcoms / love stories in the past years so it is a welcome change for him to do quality films with such depth because he is a good actor.
Ganyan ang tunay na artista hindi sa pera pera lang! Kesehodang hindi masyadong kumita ang project basta may sense of fulfillment! Pero siempre mas maganda sana kung kumita para mas maraming mag-produce! Ewan ko ba dito sa atin, kung alin pa ung mga walang kwenta un pa ang pina-patronize! Usong uso kasi ang jejemons!
1 53 in favor of JL naman to, I heard na big time money ang nasa kontrata niya. Dahil sa movie na to hindi siya nakagawa ng mainsream movie, yet his mother network is still paying him kasi may contract siya.
It's pretty clear. His wife swindled a powerful couple who tracked them down and are forcing them to pay. They went to seek help from the bishop of what seems to be a cult which probably plunged them into deeper sh*t. JLC's role is just desperate to get his daughter out of the mess.
Like na like! Been an Erik Matti fan ever since Ekis. Galing ng visuals niya, although nakulangan ako sa storytelling niya in his past films. But with his partnership with Michiko Yamamoto as screenwriter, nag level up talaga ang mga movies niya. Props din kay John Lloyd for taking a side trip from his usual route. Star Cinema na rin for bankrolling an obviously high quality movie. Some critics I follow gave this 5/5 after a private screening. Excited for this!
Kakaunti lang ang ganyang actors nowadays noh? Yung kahit anong imperfection/scandal/issue ang ibato mo, it will always boil down to superb acting skills.

Hangga't hindi nagiging media educated/literate ang karamihan sa mga tao, mahirap nilang iappreciate ang ganitong klase ng pelikula. This may sound elitist pero iyon ang totoo.
Good for John Lloyd for breaking out of the mainstream, formulaic movies of his mother network. Not that he does not shine in those movies, because he does, but this is the kind of films he should and deserve to be doing. Walang love team, walang theme song, hindi minadali na bukas na yung opening nagdadub pa ngayon, not banking on marketing strategies, but is instead an honest to goodness good film.
It's about a family na tinutugis ng mga biktima ng Ponzi/Pyramiding scheme ng wife (Meryll). They're on the run, while JLC figures out how to resolve the mess.

Ilalabas daw sa Toronto Int'l Film Festival this Sep. Haven't watched the trailer pero poster pa lang obvious na maganda na. Di ko pa rin magets bakit di eto kasama sa initial line-up ng MMFF, waiting list lang ata sila eh.
I think it's a blessing in disguise na hindi ito kasama sa MMFF kasi lalangawin lang ito. People who really watch quality films are outnumbered by those who appreciate so so, mediocre films.

Superb! So sad na mas pinili pa nila ang kris herbert or ozawa for mmff. ganitong movies dapat ang kasali sa mga festivals, for sure ibang bansa na naman ang makakaappreciate nito. Kudos to the staff who thought of Cordillera as the location and using igorot (kankanaey) as the featured dialect.
Pang International movie ang dating, ganito sana ang pinapalabas sa mmff, umay na na si Vic at Vice mga jologs na movies. Sayang bayad sa sine. Etong movie ni John Lloyd sulit na sulit.

Finally an international caliber movie na hindi tungkol sa poverty or prostitution sa Pilipinas. Lagi na lang kasing ganun ang tema ng mga indies that make it to the international circuit. Eto may kabalastugan ding nangyayar sa storyline pero timely naman and very tastefully done. Hope it goes wide.

Superb! So sad na mas pinili pa nila ang kris herbert or ozawa for mmff. ganitong movies dapat ang kasali sa mga festivals, for sure ibang bansa na naman ang makakaappreciate nito. Kudos to the staff who thought of Cordillera as the location and using igorot (kankanaey) as the featured dialect.

Finally an international caliber movie na hindi tungkol sa poverty or prostitution sa Pilipinas. Lagi na lang kasing ganun ang tema ng mga indies that make it to the international circuit. Eto may kabalastugan ding nangyayar sa storyline pero timely naman and very tastefully done. Hope it goes wide.
