Pride is Not Good Company for Your Showbiz Journey

Being cast in one major project and occasional appearances in a network’s show is not sufficient for any starting out talent to believe immediately that he/she is already made. Several longstanding showbiz luminaries have constantly reminded young talents not to be complacent with the projects that are coming their way. A talent is only as good as his/her present project. One flop can signal the end of one’s career. Moreover, humility has been stressed as one trait young talents should always keep in mind.

Sadly, Newbie Actor (NA) who was cast in a supporting role in a monster project (MP) last year has continued with his proud ways. As early as then, NA has been said to have bragged about being part of MP and even acted as though he was a major star of the said teleserye during the last few months of its airing. At one point, he demanded to have a solo tent, which was only given to the real major stars. NA did not want to be with fellow actors, who are gathered in one tent before going on cam. Because of his attitude, some of his co-stars intentionally avoided talking to him.

Unfortunately, the ill-mannered ways of NA did not spare his family members. Sometime ago, NA reconciled with a close family member (CF), who had to leave when NA was still very young. NA decided to be with CF, as he claimed his guardian then was spending his earnings left and right. Being a minor, the agreement was to make CF his new guardian until NA was old enough to handle his own financial transactions. Therefore, NA packed up his stuff and joined CF in a pad.

Apparently, even CF could not withstand the proud ways of NA. During one of his tapings, NA was seen in a high-end SUV, which he claimed to have paid for with his earnings. However, the truth is that CF shelled out the downpayment and paid for the expenses of the pad. When NA was old enough, he left CF and decided to live on his own. Currently, he still is in one of the projects of his network, but he has yet to appear in a project aired during the strongest block for the station.

Although NA was initially rejected in several of his auditions, someone should remind him that he has all his blessings because the network and his handlers have shown him kindness. He is not an indispensable talent, as he has yet to prove his box-office power. Someone should remind NA that a humble attitude could get him far in the business and open more opportunities if he wants to make a mark in acting.

Practice Mindfulness in Your Actions

Time and again, stars of yesteryears can only remind newbies of the importance of behavior outside the studios and off camera. With the influx of young talents, networks and their respective managements are having a hard time to monitor and control their behavior. When a talent is built up, the network spends energy to make sure such talent gets airtime, press releases, interviews, and visual exposure to assure that he/she will become a familiar face. Therefore, such talent becomes recognizable in most places where he/she goes. The choice of the place sometimes indicates his/her character, which can imply the good and the bad effect of his true self versus the image his/her network is trying to build.

One time, Reality TV Talent (RT) was seen checking in a hotel with a young female companion. The check-in rate fell under the short-time promo. After a few hours, RT even requested the personnel to call him a cab. The said hotel is even near his network, which is quite a risky choice. Venues near networks are often the hangout spots of people who are celebrity gawkers.

While being seen with a female companion is not much of a big deal compared with being seen with a male peer checking in a hotel, something was still questionable in the act of RT. When RT was discovered in a show, the network listed his age below 18, which makes him a minor. A minor checking in under such a promo is definitely not acceptable in terms of the law and moral standards. However, if the network has made his age a mere press release and that RT is really older than 18, then there will be no argument concerning his status.

At any rate, RT should be warned that such behavior might have detrimental effects to his budding career. Having received a certain recognition early in his career should be a sign that he can succeed as his effort and talent were noticed early. However, if RT gives in to temptations easily, then he risks losing much of what the network has invested in him. Moreover, RT should be advised this early that given the long line of wannabee actors, he can easily be replaced and he can kiss his showbiz dreams goodbye. Someone has to make him aware that his behavior can make or break his image. Once the public forms a negative image of RT, the network will not do much damage control as he is still starting out and is still dispensable.
