Bribing Its Way

Yes, it’s true, it’s common knowledge that politics is in every corner of the entertainment industry. Showbiz politics is ever present among business relationships: manager and talent, talent and network and even talent and advertising. Nonetheless, it is an accepted norm in showbiz that thrives and capitalizes on industry big names.
However, there’s a new kind of politics that has slowly inched its way on television - allegedly between talents and writers. It comes as a shock the first time we hear about this, but it is happening. Indeed, politics coupled with greed is the latest game in town. Now, this must be alarming.
Most writers have expressed disgust at the growing backroom politicking at the Creative Unit CU of a major organization to which they belong. Not all showbiz insiders know how the CU people work, with all the intricacies attendant to the work that they do. This story is about the current Hit Series HS and a much-awaited Classic Story CS.
Talks have it that the scripts for HS and CS are being intensely brainstormed in CU for quite a time. Writers’ Group WG shares their inputs and ideas to be approved by the Head Writer HW. For HS and CS, WG have struggled and burned the midnight oil so to speak, to come up with the best scripts worthy of the two series’ audience and rabid followers.
However, WG finds something quite disturbing about HW. Reportedly, HW saves and withholds all the highlights and/or the ‘kilig’ parts that they have written for HS – meaning, those highlights do not appear in HS at all. Thus it pains WG to hear of comments that HS has become quite a bore and not as exciting to watch as before. WG further remarked that it is their hard work, their original idea for HS, thus there’s no point of HW saving it. Yet, like true soldiers, WG followed.
Until one day when HW called for a recreation session with WG. It was there that HW announced that WG members will each receive a bonus from him. WG were puzzled. It turned out, HW had been regularly receiving gratuity from the camp of the leading stars of CS. The reason? As payment for the job done of saving the highlights meant for HS but had to be used for CS. WG were enraged!
They felt insulted that CS camp would go so low as to resort to bribery just to feel secure about themselves and CS. WG lamented that CS camp is paranoid and doesn't trust WG enough, as CS people belittle their efforts, when, just like with HS, they have been doing their utmost best for CS to shine as well. Now, they feel nothing but empathy for the stars of HS, particularly its lead actress who is such a good person, yet is being robbed of what is rightfully hers.
Hmmm, this early, CS camp has been behaving badly. Will they be able to sustain the public’s high expectation of CS? Wish we knew.

Take Care of the Opportunity

Sometimes, patience is the key to having a career in showbiz. Several actors and actresses start at a young age playing bit roles, and still are unable to surpass the achievements of their contemporaries. Others fall out of the limelight, try other networks, or continue to chase the elusive opportunity to become a household name. For the lucky ones who remain loyal, the networks are gracious enough to provide the second chance.
Thus is the case for this Pretty Actress (PA). While most viewers think that PA is a newbie, she has actually been around and has stayed in the background for such a long time. Finally, the network gave her that one major chance to generate interest, and PA slowly took advantage. Trust the network to exploit her private life to generate interest. Soon, the network paved the way to reveal that PA was special to Physically Fit Personality (PF). Because PF has his own following, connecting PA to PF was such a smart ploy to make the name of the former sound familiar.
Unfortunately, the network has other plans for PA and has named a Young Actor (YA) to be her onscreen partner. Showbiz watchers know that when fans go crazy with loveteams, they want the partners to have a real relationship. Revealing that the partners have real life love interests can also spell doom for the career of such actors/actresses.
Apparently, PA is not that interested in YA, as she was seen hanging around with PF is a private residential building. PA was on break and had, obviously, decided to spend time with PF. PF can be funny at times, and for the sake of privacy asked if he could be allowed to use one of the rooms. Of course, that meant some private time with PA. The gap in the shooting of PA must be so long, such that they were together in the locked room for most of the day. We can only guess what the two must have been doing behind the door. However, PA should remember that she’s building a career, and distractions might adversely affect the opportunity she has right now. And by the way, is YA fully aware that one PF's close relatives is not 100% in favor of their relationship? Your guess is as good as mine!
