The Gullible Host

Highly Visible Figure (HV) may have taken Celebrity Interviewer (CI) and her crew for a ride. After an interview with his infamous client, HV invited CI to lunch in a restaurant. Based on his media appearances, HV can be very convincing as he can talk his heart out. As HV was very persistent, CI and her crew obliged and went with him. Lunch with a controversial personality, such as HV, possesses the potential of getting the scoop ahead of other reporters. CI, like any other journalist, would not pass on this opportunity.

At the onset, HV told CI that the restaurant was noted for a delicious dish and that CI should order that item. CI ordered that dish, only to be told that the restaurant does not serve it at all. Then, CI and HV merely laughed at the mistake. CI ordered as much for her crew under the notion that HV will foot the bill. HV invited them, after all.

As they ate heartily, HV excused himself, as he wanted to smoke. CI and her crew continued to savor the dishes. Minutes passed and HV had not returned. Finally, CI and her crew realized that HV already left and did not pay the bill. All that CI and her crew could do was take the incident with a grain of salt and laugh off that April fool’s day can happen any time.

The question is whether HV intended to treat CI and her crew, or perhaps, footing the bill was merely a case of misunderstanding. The next time they see each other, will HV be apologetic, or will CI call the attention of HV to the alleged incident? During these times, HV needs a positive image from media for himself and his clients, who are mostly on the verge of the negative side of events.
