Marian Rivera is Not Sorry

Source: www.philstar.com

Despite her striking and breathtakingly delicate features, Marian Rivera is perhaps the least saccharine person that I’ve met. She walks into the room with a smile on her face and gets right down to business, assessing the gowns that have been laid out for her to wear. She doesn’t bother trying to woo the people in the room. If she doesn’t remember you from the millions of interviewers she’s faced, she won’t pretend to. After having met quite a few actors and high-profile people for the first time — and having them all warmly tell me that I “look familiar”— eventually I realized that I probably didn’t have a doppelganger roaming the showbiz circuit. It was all patronizing PR, which they thought they needed to bestow on me.

Marian is polite and very easy to work with, but she won’t coddle you with warmth. Even when the shoot wraps up and it’s time for her to leave, you can easily tell from the way she bids goodbye to each person who she’s spent more of her life with. If you’re close, you’re close. If you’re not, you’re not. Those who are more sensitive would probably brand that as suplada, but I strangely appreciated it. This was a woman with whom I knew exactly where I stood. In hindsight, I also realized she was a ton more respectful than those who thought a pinch of flattery was necessary.

‘TARAY’ QUEEN

Unsurprisingly, the words “suplada” and “mataray” have been following the snappy Marian around, in a culture where people are so used to having their egos given the spa treatment. “Ang sagot ko dun... totoo naman! Totoo naman kasi eh. I think it’s OK to be suplada as long as you’re not power tripping. Hindi rin naman siguro masama na mag-react kapag may ginawa sa’yo. Basta ang motto ko sa buhay, kung mabait ka, mas mabait ako sa’yo. Pag sinalbahe mo ako, ah patay na.”

Marian is glad to have started her now eight-year showbiz career without the aid of pretense. She revels in the freedom that comes with being straightforward and how everyone relates to her as that. She does, however, admit that she has had to learn not to be transparent all the time; to know when to speak and when to keep it zipped.

“Actually, it’s not just in showbiz,” she says, unfazed by the body of intrigue that has been thrown at her so far. “Bago ako nag-artista nakapagtrabaho naman ako. Even at the office or hospital or in school, you get situations like that. It’s just that this industry broadcasts everything. Pero pare-parehas lang ang tao.

WORK IS WORK IS WORK

What gives Marian the courage to always show up as herself under the klieg lights is that she gets on a deep and grounded level that stardom isn’t everything. It’s a job —a job that makes many people happy and provides for her family — but still just a piece of the pie. “Hindi dito umiikot ang mundo ko. When I’m no longer here at your interview, I’ll be at home with my family, at yun yung totoong buhay.”

At work, Marian may give off that stand-offish aura that makes it always clear that you don’t own her. But that doesn’t mean she’s incapable of caring deeply and belonging to the people who really matter. Her family keeps cropping up during the duration of our conversation. “Hanggat kaya ko silang bigyan ng oras, gagawin ko, lalo na yung lola ko kasi matanda na siya. My mom is like my best friend, and I can’t not talk to my dad in Spain at least once a day. With my siblings, I like seeing their pictures and what’s on their agenda. Yung mga pamangkin ko na pinag-aaral ko, gusto ko palaging kamustahin kung nag-aaral ba sila ng mabuti. Those are my concerns. My family.”

Once in a while, Marian also sends her fans direct messages to thank them and update them on her life. “Kasi kung wala sila, wala talagang Marian. They’re the ones who push me up.” It’s a line that’s been said so many times before, but Marian speaks it as if she were articulating a conviction.

She describes herself as a simple girl with simple dreams, whose main purpose in life is to be happy and make sure her family is the same. Beyond that, Marian simply lets the issues and intrigues come. “Hindi mo naman maiiwasan ang issue eh. Kahit nananahimik ako, kung merong gusto akong gawan ng issue, gagawan at gagawan ako eh. So ang kailangan ko lang gawin, wala deadma. Ah, ah issue? Ahhhhhoookay! Deadma!’” she laughs. “What’s important is at the end of the day, when I’m about to sleep, masaya ba ako sa buhay ko?” With certainty, Marian answers her own question in the affirmative, and to her that’s all that needs to be said.

4 'Biggest Loser' Contestants Admit Cheating

Four "Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition Doubles" contestants voluntarily dropped out of the competition after they admitted to have cheated.

In Saturday's episode of the reality show, Christian and Ralph of the team Du Brothers and Patrizha and Cathy of team Showbiz Royalties confessed that they brought cigarettes, junk food and slimming tea inside the camp to help them lose extra pounds.

Christian, who was first to volunteer out of the competition, apologized to his co-contestants and said what he did may be a way for him to understand himself better.

He also promised his fellow contestants to learn from his mistakes in the competition and apply it to his real life.

"Inaantay ko po 'yung time na magkamali ako para po matutuo. Siguro po ito 'yung way para maindintindihan ko sarili ko," he said. "Siguro dahil sa mga nagawa ko, sa mga nasaktan ko, sisiguraduhin ko po na ipapakita ko sa inyo na matututo ako, na ipapasa ko po lahat ng natutunan ko na ito, sa competition na ito… Nagvo-volunteer po ako na i-end na ang journey ko sa 'Biggest Loser'."

For his part, Ralph admitted that he was caught up in the nature of the competition

"Di ko inakalang aabot ako sa point na magiging ganoon ako. Lalo na po, tinuturo sa amin ng dad namin parati is [ang] intergridad ay 'di mo kailangang bilihin. Basta gawin mo lang ang tama at ipagpatuloy ang tama. Ako rin po nagde-decide na voluntarily i-end ang journey ko [sa 'Biggest Loser']," he said.

Meanwhile, Cathy, who admitted she disappointed even herself, apologized to her co-contestants, her parents and to the people who believed in her.

Cathy said after what she did, she realized that staying in the competition is not worth it anymore.

"Nadi-disappoint ako and I know I've disappointed a lot of people—ang parents ko, ang 'Biggest Loser,' ang coaches, ang contestants, ang lahat na naniwala sa akin, kahit si Ate Pat. Hindi worth it ang ginawa ko. Dapat nagpakatotoo na lang ako sa sarili ko. I can’t even express how sorry I am to you, guys," she said.

Patrizha, for her part, also said sorry to her fellow contestants and said she doesn't want to be defined by her errors but by how she owed up to it and rose again.

"Nu'ng pumasok ako, masaya ako just thinking kahit maka-lose man lang ako 20 pounds, okay na ako. Kasi gusto ko lang naman magsayaw uli e. Gusto ko rin maging proud ang papa ko," she said. "I don’t want this to define me, kasi hindi ito ang totoong ako. Gusto kong maalala ako ng mga tao na siya 'yung nagkamali pero buong loob niyang hinarap at taas-noo siyang bumangon."

Even before the program looked into the case, the other contestants apparently already had a hunch about the Du Brothers and Showbiz Royalties' deceitful practices, but chose to remain mum for the sake of camaraderie, as well as lack of evidence against the four contestants.

Siblings Ikya and Brian admitted they were offended and hurt by what Christian, Ralph, Cathy and Pat did, but said they will still be their friends outside the competition.

"Sobrang bigat kase na magpanggap. Akala mo okay ka na. 'Yung feeling na nandu'n pa rin, 'yung nadaya ka. Sobrang tinuring mo silang pamilya, kaibigan, tapos magagawa nila sa 'yo 'yun. Pero after nitong journey natin ituturing ko pa rin silang kaibigan," Ikya said.

Meanwhile, the other contestants also shared the same sentiments and are willing to forgive what the Du Brothers and Showbiz Royalties did for the sake of their friendship.

'Don't let this moment define you'

Meanwhile, "Biggest Loser" coaches Toni and Jim Saret expressed regret after the confession of the two teams.

Coach Toni admitted that Christian and Ralph were the strongest contenders in the competition.

Both coaches reminded team Du Brothers and team Showbiz Royalties to use what they learned from the mistakes they made in the "Biggest Loser" to make them better people in the real world.

"As your coaches medyo masakit kasi nagsi sink-in pa lang lahat na napasaktit. Ang lapit-lapit niyo na. You were the strongest contenders, boys… Masakit lang talaga e," a crying Coach Toni told team Du Brothers. "The real world, ;yung totoong mundo, nandoon sa labas. This is gonna be a part of your biggest transformation."

"We look at you as families, mga anak gusto namin kayo maging successful… Kahit na medyo sad na dalawa kayo aalis, sa gantiong pamamaraan, we got high hopes e. I still love all of you," Coach Jim added. "Don't let this moment define you. Let this moment make you stronger. Let it make you become better people."

With the Du Brothers and Showbiz Roylaties out, a batch of contestants are set to make a return to the "Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition Doubles."

Erroneous Handling of the Suppliers

Excitement is often generated when celebrities open a business and transact with the ordinary customers and other clients. Thus, when celebrity food expert, a related singer-actress, and another partner opened a restaurant (AR) in a high-end location, suppliers and the like were excited to do business. Rumors also have it that a fourth owner, who remains anonymous, is a big-name actress-model, who has been recently involved in controversies concerning an unhealthy habit.

Sadly, the suppliers (TS) realized that the hype was nothing more than a disappointment. As TS was happy and proud to be of service to AR and the celebrity owners, the transactions did not go as smoothly as expected. TS realized that their investment was used to run AR, and then, they suddenly stopped receiving payment for a time. Later, AR issued cheques, but the amounts were hardly sufficient to cover the amount due to the suppliers.

TS believed that the experience could be taken as part of business, what made the experience such a letdown was the way the staff treated them. The staff was crude and talked to the suppliers as if they were the ones who owed AR. Then, none of the celebrity partners even bothered to talk to the suppliers.

While clients continue to patronize AR, have they noticed that some items in the menu cannot be served? Trace that “sorry, it’s not available” to the lack of suppliers, who are now having second thoughts dealing with AR and other ventures owned by the same celebrity owners. Unlike ordinary businesspersons, celebrities who engage in highly visible businesses have a bigger weight on their shoulders. Fame can be treacherous to any misjudgment in the running of the business. Besides, celebrity-owners should not solely rely on their reputations for the profitability of their businesses, and they should be aware of how their office staff handles their every day transactions. Having a bad reputation in dealing with suppliers and other clients is just too bad as AR and its sister restaurant have been receiving commendable reviews from reliable food critics.

More business is lost every year through neglect than through any other cause. – Rose F. Kennedy

James Franco 'Learned Lesson' for Instagram Flirt

James Franco has apologised for contacting a 17-year-old British girl on Instagram.

Lucy Clode from Dollar, Clackmananshire, posted pictures of the actor outside a Broadway theatre.

The Hollywood star sent messages to the teenager asking her age, if she had a boyfriend and where she was staying.

Speaking on US television 35-year-old Franco said he used "bad judgement".

The actor appeared on Live With Kelly and Michael and said "I learned my lesson."

He said: "It's the way that people meet each other today, but what I've learned, I guess because I'm new to it, is you don't know who's on the other end."

"When you meet in person you get a feel for them, you don't know who you're talking to," he added.

The star suggested being a celebrity could make meeting people more difficult.

"Unfortunately in my position, not only do I have to go through the embarrassing rituals of meeting someone, but if I do that, then it gets published for the world so it's doubly embarrassing."

Ms Clode was said to be in New York with her mother for an 18th birthday present.

She told a friend on Instagram: "James Franco asked me to meet him! It was really him and I rejected him!"

James Franco is currently appearing in Of Mice And Men alongside Irish actor Chris O'Dowd on Broadway.

Third Rape Complaint Filed vs Vhong Navarro

Source: www.gmanetwork.com

A third rape complaint has been filed against TV host-actor Vhong Navarro, this time by a stuntwoman who once worked with him, a report on GMA News TV's “Quick Response Team” said Friday.

The complaint was filed Thursday with the Quezon City Prosecutor's Office, the report said.

Citing the victim's affidavit, the report said the alleged incident happened in September 2009 inside a sports utility vehicle (SUV). The victim, who was not identified, said Navarro only stopped with his sexual assault when she threatened to hurt him.

Navarro was first slapped with a rape complaint by model Deniece Cornejo in January. Days later, in February, beauty contestant Roxanne Acosta Cabanero also filed a similar complaint against the actor.

Navarro's counsel, lawyer Alma Mallonga, said they have yet to receive a copy of the third complaint, but added they are ready to file a counter-affidavit,

“The new complaint for rape against Vhong is not unexpected. We expect more, especially as the DOJ nears resolution of the complaint for non-bailable crime of Serious Illegal Detention filed by Vhong against Cedric, Deniece and company,” Mallonga said in a text message sent to GMA News.

Mallonga was referring to Cedric Lee, Deniece Cornejo and several others who are facing charges in connection with the mauling incident on Navarro in late January.

“We will wait for the complaint and respond. We will follow the process, knowing full well that Vhong will be vindicated,” Mallonga added.
