Mix-Matching Some Exciting Acquaintances

Times have truly changed. A generation or so ago, it would be unthinkable for a girl to be the one to court a guy or to even hint that she liked her. That was a big no no back then because girls were raised to be ladylike and well-mannered.

But at present, such has become ordinary and in fact even become more prevalent. Girls may have taken women’s rights too literally…kidding. But as a whole they have now elevated to a different level. Women of today know what they want and have come to be their own – educated, relevant, decisive and independent.

Intense Star IS claimed to have been desperate for a boyfriend for the longest time. IS quipped that she wanted to feel what it’s like to have a loved one and be inspired. But her problem was quite a challenge. She had the looks yet she felt that no one else was interested enough to court her.

Thus IS thought of the next best thing – she pulled a stunt on a cute and Talented Colleague TC and “courted” him. Some of TC’s fans and showbiz followers didn’t take it well. As for TC’s reaction? He turned her down. Some say that given TC’s personality and character, it was a foregone conclusion.

Now more desperate, IS turned her attention to two (2) equally hot stars Hot Actor HA and Hot Singer HS. More eyebrows were raised this time as rumors came out in the media. But being “gentlemen,” HA and HS ignored the kibitzers. It was IS who was often quoted talking about her adventures.

In one gathering with friends, IS shared her feelings and bantered with them just how bad it felt being turned down by ‘real’ men. Now that she has learned her lesson, IS allegedly said that it’s time to go for a different kind, to hunt for the so-called ‘closet gays’ - naughtily referring to HA and HS.

IS said that it’s more of a challenge to pursue their kind. Whatever she meant by that, it sure would not be to the liking of HA and HS.

Only A Dollar

Seasoned Performer SP was abroad to be part of the entourage of a friend’s wedding. SP came with his celebrity wife as well. They met some friends there and had some fun catching up.

Few nights before the rehearsal dinner, SP together with those friends and some members of the entourage that included the couple, decided to have a get-together, and out they went to a place for more bonding and entertainment.

After a few hours, the bill came costing several hundreds of dollars. Reportedly, none of the gentlemen in the group moved to pull out from his wallet. Seconds of silence. Still nothing moved. How could something like that happen?

The bill was not that frighteningly big for these supposed gentlemen of good standing – especially in the case of SP.

After what seemed like forever, one of the lady guests finally declared, “ Why don’t we just split the bill? “

It was at this point that SP pulled out a dollar bill from his wallet, laughed and said, “ This is my share. “

Everyone was floored and flabbergasted thinking that SP was just trying to pull off a joke. But no, the guy was serious and did not take it back.

Needless to say, that get-together was a revelation of who they were – with big emphasis on SP who for the life of them could not begin to imagine that he was capable of such an act. Whether meant as a joke or not, it definitely left a very bad taste in the mouth.

After some research, the source revealed that SP was indeed capable of the stunt. A self-confessed ‘kuripot,’ SP had several concerns with money. Nothing wrong. But to be utterly tasteless is another thing.

Insta Scoop: Anne Curtis Denies Saying "You are Not Classy Enough to be Here" to Sam Concepcion

Anne Curtis' Message to Fashion PULIS

Anne Curtis Reportedly Tells Sam Concepcion at Vice Ganda’s Party: “You are Not Classy Enough to be Here!”

Today, April 1, a feed reached PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) saying there was a slight commotion at the birthday party of It’s Showtime host Vice Ganda.

A confrontation was supposed to have happened in the early morning hours of March 31, involving ABS-CBN talents Anne Curtis and Sam Concepcion.

A PEP source said he got the details from a party guest at the celebration held in 71 Gramercy, Century City, Kalayaan Avenue corner Salamanca Street, Makati City.

He said, “Maraming taong nakakita at nakarinig.”

But Vice—who is also Anne’s co-host in It’s Showtime—reportedly went around asking the guests not to talk about it: “Huwag na lang ilabas.”

THE INCIDENT. From her hosting stint at the Binibining Pilipinas 2014 pageant at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, which ended a little past midnight, Dyesebel lead star Anne headed straight for Vice Ganda’s party.

That was where she saw Sam, a 21-year-old singer-actor who is rumored to be the boyfriend of Anne’s younger sister, Jasmine Curtis Smith.

According to the PEP source, Anne drank at the party.

Then, at a certain point of the party, she was seen approaching Sam, who was in the balcony area talking to some female guests.

It was then that Anne reportedly said to Sam, pointblank: “Why are you here? Who invited you? You are not classy enough to be here!”

Her voice was said to be loud enough to catch the attention of the other guests.

Still according to the PEP source, it didn’t end there.

Anne next bashed Sam’s car, saying, in effect, that his present car couldn’t compare to her oldest car.

She also allegedly told Sam: “Ba’t mo niloloko ang kapatid ko?”

Sam then left the scene, looking embarrassed.

The PEP source said that he was “mangiyak-ngiyak.”

But another source, who moves in the circle of Sam and Anne, clarified, “I wasn’t sure about crying… baka upset. Marami rin kasi ang nakarinig.”

When PEP asked this second source about Anne’s supposed verbal putdown of Sam, he confirmed that the putdown did happen.

SAM’S CAMP. PEP then got in touch with Carlo Orosa of STAGES, which is handling Sam’s career.

In a phone conversation that took place at 11:37 a.m. today, Carlo simply said, “We will investigate what happened.”

Another person from Sam’s camp informed PEP, “Hindi magsasalita si Sam.”

ANNE’S CAMP. PEP also got in touch with Veronique del Rosario of VIVA Artists Agency, which is handling Anne’s career.

In a text message sent to Section Editor Jocelyn Dimaculangan at 4:07 p.m., she said she was in a meeting.

At 5 p.m., we rang Del Rosario's number, but she did not pick up.

At 5:30 p.m., this writer sent another message to Del Rosario asking for her help to contact Anne.

At 5:38 p.m., VIVA executive June Rufino rang to say Del Rosario is still in a meeting, and that they've been trying to reach Anne's number.

Likewise, a text message was sent by Associate Editor Rommel Llanes to Therese Ramos, Anne's handler. But no word from her yet at press time.

We also rang Ramos's number at 4:44 p.m. and 5:07 p.m., but her phone just kept on ringing.

South Korea's Sex Change Doctor: I Correct 'God's Mistakes'

Dr. Kim Seok-Kwun, 61, talks with an unidentified patient at Dong-A University Hospital in Busan, South Korea. Dr. Kim is a pioneer in slowly changing views on sexuality and gender in the country, where many have long considered even discussions of sexuality a taboo. As Dr. Kim begins what will be 11 hours of surgery meant to create a functioning penis for a Buddhist nun, he is well aware of the unease his work creates in this deeply conservative country. The devout Protestant known as the “father of South Korean transgender people” once wrestled with similar feelings. “I’ve decided to defy God’s will,” Kim said in an interview before the nun’s recent successful surgery to become a man.

Harisu, Dr. Kim Seok-Kwun's best known patient, said in an interview that the pain she felt after her 1995 male-to-female surgery “was like a hammer hitting your genitals.” But days later, when she left the hospital, she felt reborn, comparing her transformation to the Disney film “The Little Mermaid,” where a mermaid gives up her fish tail in exchange for human legs and eventual happiness. BUSAN, South Korea (AP) — As Dr. Kim Seok-Kwun begins surgery to create a functioning penis for a Buddhist monk who was born female, he is well aware of the unease his work creates in this deeply conservative country. The devout Protestant known as the "father of South Korean transgender people" once wrestled with similar feelings.

"I've decided to defy God's will," Kim, 61, said in an interview before the monk's recent successful surgery to become a man. "At first, I agonized over whether I should do these operations because I wondered if I was defying God. I was overcome with a sense of shame. But my patients desperately wanted these surgeries. Without them, they'd kill themselves."

Kim is a pioneer in slowly changing views on sexuality and gender in South Korea, where many have long considered even discussions of sexuality a taboo. He has conducted about 320 sex change operations over the past 28 years, widely believed to be the most by any single doctor in the country.

Kim said the monk, who underwent 11 hours of surgery, did not want to be interviewed for fear of offending Buddhist believers at his temple. The doctor said the monk has been taking hormone therapy and has been living as a man for a long time.

When Kim first started doing the surgeries in the 1980s, his pastor objected. Friends and fellow doctors joked that he was going to hell if he didn't stop. He now feels a great sense of achievement for helping people who feel trapped in the wrong body. He believes he's correcting what he calls God's mistakes.

"Some people are born without genitals or with cleft lips or with no ears or with their fingers stuck together. Why does God create people like this? Aren't these God's mistakes?" Kim said. "And isn't a mismatched sexual identity a mistake, too?"

A strong bias against sexual minorities persists in South Korea, the result of lingering Confucian beliefs that children should never damage the bodies they received from their parents; a large, vocal conservative Christian community; and past military-backed dictatorships that ignored minority voices.

Sex change operations "are a blasphemy against God and make the world a more miserable place," said the Rev. Hong Jae Chul, president of the Seoul-based Christian Council of Korea. He called Kim's remarks "cursed and deplorable."

Kim, a plastic surgeon at Dong-A University Hospital in the southeastern port city of Busan, specializes in fixing facial deformities. He began doing sex change operations in 1986 after several men wearing women's clothing visited him separately and asked him to construct vaginas for them. The first visitor had already had his penis removed, Kim said.

Kim initially turned them away because he knew nothing about sex change surgery. But he kept thinking about their pleas, studied foreign publications and began performing the surgeries a year later.

His best known patient is South Korea's most famous transsexual entertainer, Harisu, who had Kim officiate at her 2007 wedding to a male singer.

Harisu, who only uses a single name, said in an interview at a Seoul coffee shop that the pain she felt after her 1995 male-to-female surgery "was like a hammer hitting your genitals." But days later, when she left the hospital, she felt reborn, comparing her transformation to the Disney film "The Little Mermaid," where a mermaid gives up her fish tail in exchange for human legs and eventual happiness.

Many of Kim's earliest patients were in their 40s and 50s. Sometimes parents showed up just before surgeries, furious and threatening to disown their children.

Today, most of his sex-change patients are in their early 20s, and sometimes their parents agree to pay for the surgery. Male-to-female procedures cost 11 million to 15 million won ($10,210 to $13,920), and the more difficult female-to-male procedures cost 31 million won ($28,760).

The changes in his clientele reflect changes in South Koreans' views of sexual minorities.

Several gay-themed movies and TV dramas have become hits. An actor once banned from show business because of his homosexuality is working again. A well-known male movie director symbolically tied the knot with his male partner last year in what was the first high-profile ceremony of its kind in South Korea, which still doesn't legally recognize same-sex marriage.

At the same time, activists say transsexuals remain likely to face harassment, abuse or insults, and many suffer from depression and have attempted suicide. The conservative government of President Park Geun-hye, which took office in early 2013, said it would create a broad anti-discrimination law, but there's been no major progress.

In 2012, vehement protests by conservative activists and Christian groups forced a TV channel to scrap a talk show program featuring transgender people after airing its first segment.

Transgender people who want to legally change their gender also face obstacles in South Korea. The Supreme Court suggests that judges allow such changes only for those who have undergone sex change operations, have lost reproductive capability, are not married and have no underage children.

The lack of any binding rules has led transsexuals to flock to judges rumored to be less strict about approving gender change requests, according to Hahn Chae Yoon, leader of the Korean Sexual-Minority Culture and Rights Center in Seoul.

Last year a Seoul court approved gender change requests for five people even though they hadn't yet completed their female-to-male procedures, something previously deemed necessary. Since then, about 30 other people in similar situations have been allowed by the court to legally change their sex, according to court officials.

Kim requires his candidates for surgery to get testimony from at least two psychiatrists showing a diagnosis of gender identity disorder. They're asked to live for more than one year in the other gender's clothing and hairstyle and to get parental approval. Of his 320 sex change operations, about 210 are male-to-female, the rest female to male.

Many patients see the operation as a matter of life or death. Before her surgery, Harisu, the transsexual entertainer, signed a document acknowledging that she knew she could die during surgery, though Kim said none of his sex-change operations have gone so horribly wrong.

"If I had lived as a man without undergoing a sex change operation, I might be dead already," Harisu said. "I was already a woman except for my genitals. I didn't want to live an awkward life with those genitals ... I'm a woman, so I wanted to live as a woman."

Lacking Niceties, But Longing for His Robustness

Make-up does wonders to everyone’s face, much like what a good photoshop does to pictures. Unlike how it was years ago, it now takes less to look pleasant and improve one’s looks. If you are a celebrity or a model, it is your job to look good and beautiful because you owe it to your audience who patronize you.

Teleserye Star TS is relatively young, yet her network has entrusted her with challenging roles that tested her mettle as an actress. TS is lucky that inspite of her plain looks and mediocre talent, she has managed to bag good projects amidst a sea of lovelier and more talented colleagues. But observers remark that with all her blessings, TS should at least strive to look better. But above all – TS should learn how to be humane first.

Most times, some co-actors can’t help but cringe at the way TS treats her personal assistant PA. Like she throws her belongings at PA at the slightest provocation even in front of people. It was just too much for others who have witnessed several times how TS blows her top at PA. Certainly, shouting is not the way to make PA do better and follow her commands. Observers remarked that TS behaves as if to show others what power she has over her poor PA.

PA sympathizers take the cudgels for her ‘though. Rightly or wrongly, they lambast TS for her appearance. They figured that with the money that TS has, and her excessive self-obsession why is it that TS is not doing anything, like a make-over at the very least?

Many times, they notice how make-up can’t seem to make TS beautiful. Her critics remarked that with all the whitening and beauty products available in the market, TS’ skin takes a lot to be desired – dark elbows, knees, rough skin, etc. They figure that if TS will consider a make-over of her physical flaws, as well as that of her decorum, then perhaps her persistent flirting with talented and Well-mannered Actor WA would have hopes of being returned.

Oh, TS may be barking at the wrong tree, after all. Reliable information yields that WA is so taken and in love with exotic actress. Uh oh…
