A Clever Move to Keep Him
A few weeks ago, Makeup Artist (MU) was in the middle of a tug-o-war between Artistic Actress (AA) and Bankable Performer (BP). AA and BP have shows on the same day but on different stations. Hence, MU could only give his services to one. When AA found out that BP wanted the services of MU, she immediately said that she should be prioritized because they are friends and are close. When MU was not yet based in the country, one of his dreams was to work with AA. The dream came true, and thus, their close relationship.
Then, BP made a counter offer and said she would double the price of the services of MU. Too bad, AA said she would triple the cost of his services. Apparently, AA refused to be outdone by BP. AA believes she is still a much bigger star than BP; after all, she has been in the business much longer. Guess who won? Obviously, loyalty, friendship, and the highest bid (?) prevailed. BP had to avail of the services of another makeup artist, who is as well-known in the industry.
Incidentally, other than their desire for the services of MU, AA and BP share a few things in common. Both of them started in the same network. AA was one of the prized talents of the network before she transferred, whereas BP remains loyal to the same station. Then, AA and BP have had controversial relationships with their mothers. By contrast, the mother of AA kept a high profile throughout her career, whereas the mother of BP remained in the sidelights for many years. Currently, in terms of love, AA found her match and contentment, whereas BP still has to find peace and forgiveness.
I look for these qualities and characteristics in people. Honesty is number one, respect, and absolutely the third would have to be loyalty. - Summer Altice

Oscar Winner Lupita Nyong'o's Speech on Beauty That Left an Entire Audience Speechless

My heart bled a little when I read those words. I could never have guessed that my first job out of school would be so powerful in and of itself and that it would propel me to be such an image of hope in the same way that the women of The Color Purple were to me.
I remember a time when I too felt unbeautiful. I put on the TV and only saw pale skin, I got teased and taunted about my night-shaded skin. And my one prayer to God, the miracle worker, was that I would wake up lighter-skinned. The morning would come and I would be so excited about seeing my new skin that I would refuse to look down at myself until I was in front of a mirror because I wanted to see my fair face first. And every day I experienced the same disappointment of being just as dark as I had been the day before. I tried to negotiate with God: I told him I would stop stealing sugar cubes at night if he gave me what I wanted; I would listen to my mother's every word and never lose my school sweater again if he just made me a little lighter. But I guess God was unimpressed with my bargaining chips because He never listened.
And when I was a teenager my self-hate grew worse, as you can imagine happens with adolescence. My mother reminded me often that she thought that I was beautiful but that was no consolation: She’s my mother, of course she’s supposed to think I am beautiful. And then Alek Wek came on the international scene. A celebrated model, she was dark as night, she was on all of the runways and in every magazine and everyone was talking about how beautiful she was. Even Oprah called her beautiful and that made it a fact. I couldn’t believe that people were embracing a woman who looked so much like me as beautiful. My complexion had always been an obstacle to overcome and all of a sudden, Oprah was telling me it wasn’t. It was perplexing and I wanted to reject it because I had begun to enjoy the seduction of inadequacy. But a flower couldn’t help but bloom inside of me. When I saw Alek I inadvertently saw a reflection of myself that I could not deny. Now, I had a spring in my step because I felt more seen, more appreciated by the far away gatekeepers of beauty, but around me the preference for light skin prevailed. To the beholders that I thought mattered, I was still unbeautiful. And my mother again would say to me, "You can’t eat beauty. It doesn’t feed you." And these words plagued and bothered me; I didn’t really understand them until finally I realized that beauty was not a thing that I could acquire or consume, it was something that I just had to be.
And what my mother meant when she said you can’t eat beauty was that you can’t rely on how you look to sustain you. What is fundamentally beautiful is compassion for yourself and for those around you. That kind of beauty enflames the heart and enchants the soul. It is what got Patsey in so much trouble with her master, but it is also what has kept her story alive to this day. We remember the beauty of her spirit even after the beauty of her body has faded away.
And so I hope that my presence on your screens and in the magazines may lead you, young girl, on a similar journey. That you will feel the validation of your external beauty but also get to the deeper business of being beautiful inside. There is no shade to that beauty.

Her End of the Bargain
The smart and down-to-earth HM may have been involved in some unsavory issues in the past but her demeanor and overall wholesome image often had her covered. The public knew well that inspite of her status, HM didn’t believe in compromises and showbiz politics. What she espoused and believed in were social issues, professionalism and work ethics – the stuff so rare in the industry.
Until few years ago when her career took a quick ascent making her one of the industry's in-demand endorsers. As such, she was often at work busy hitting the ground running, making hay while the sun shines, so to speak.
Due to her busyness, HM's regular show had its Producers PR been complaining about her habitual absences on the show. Reportedly, HM would not report on the show after a night of partying, something that made it difficult for PR who had already prepared the show's line-up for the day. Worse, HM had been going on frequent vacations making it hard for PR to schedule HM without any hitch.
HM may be a professional worker, but her many work issues had clearly impacted her image. So when the show reformatted, PR thought it would be the best to get rid of HM altogether. Not only was her schedule the problem, her many endorsements have been compromising her credibility a lot. Reportedly, HM's social media accounts look like a veritable marketplace of goods of various brands. Thus according to PR, she had to go.
The way HM has been conducting herself of late, close observers ask: Where is the HM of long ago? Has she already been eaten up by the system? Had she truly contradicted herself so bad?

Vhong Navarro's Lawyer to Roxanne Cabanero's Camp: 'Ano 'to Lokohan?'
Source: www.abs-cbnnews.com
In an interview with "Buzz ng Bayan" aired on Sunday, Atty. Alma Mallonga believes that the camp of Cabanero is now trying to adjust after new evidence came out.
The complaint-affidavit, which was signed by Cabanero and Assistant City Prosecutor Richard Parras, specified that the alleged rape happened on "April 24, 2010, 11-pm to 1:AM" in "Pasig City, near Astoria Hotel."
However, Cabanero's legal counsel, Atty. Virgilio Batalla earlier denied that his client's complaint-affidavit mentioned the date the alleged sexual assault took place.
This was Batalla's reaction to Vice Ganda's testimony that Navarro was among the guest performers at his concert held at Island Cove resort in Cavite, on April 24, 2010.
He said the alleged rape incident happened anytime from April 24 to 27 in 2010.
Mallonga said she doesn't buy Batalla's statement because she read and understood clearly everything in Cabanero's affidavit.
"Tingin ko, napako sila. May lumabas na mga ebidensya. Ngayon, nag-aadjust sila. Pero huwag mo sasabihin na 'yung reklamo nila, puwedeng anytime from April 24 to 27. Hindi 'yun totoo. Hindi kami bulag. Nabasa ko, hindi ako tanga, naintindihan ko ang nakalagay doon," she said.
Mallonga added that Cabanero seemed so sure of the date and time of the alleged rape incident when she came out to the media.
For the lawyer, the seemingly sudden change of statements just makes it clearer for her that Cabanero's camp is lying.
"Hindi ito biro. Nanumpa ka, napaka-espesifico mo sa oras, panahon at lugar. Ano 'to lokohan?" she said. "Lumabas ka sa media, nag-iiyak ka, siniraan mo si Vhong, tapos ngayon 'ay sorry, nakalimutan ko, hindi iba pala, mali ang nasabi ko,'"
Because of this, Navarro's camp is set to file libel and perjury raps against Cabanero.
'Give Roxanne the benefit of the doubt'
Meanwhile, asked about her expert opinion, lawyer Lorna Kapunan said that, as far as her understanding is concerned, an exact date of the alleged rape is mentioned on Cabanero's affidavit.
"The rape [based on the complaint] happened during the incident inside the car. In the afternoon of the same date e. Afternoon 'yun, ang date ay April 24. So afternoon, 'yung [message sa]cellphone saying allegedly ni Vhong Navarro na 'magkita tayo.' Tapos nagkita sila sa evening. So the same day—the same evening of the same date, April 24. Unless na sinasabi nila na it happened the next day. E hindi naman sinasabi dito," she said.
Kapunan also said that a traumatized rape victim would either forget the date of the day she was raped or remember it in exact details.
"Puwedeng two sides 'yan e. Kung totoong rape victim ka o traumatized 'di mo na maaalala. Except that the other side is, 'di mo makakalimutan 'yung araw na nirape ka, 'di puwedeng papaplit-palit ka na 'ay di pala ngayon, e another date,'" she said. "There are material dates that you cannot forget. For instance, the date you were raped is very material to you na di mo pwedeng sabihing ay nagkamali ako ng date."
However, Kapunan said the public should give Cabenero the benefit of the doubt because it is never easy to come out as a rape victim.
"In fairness to Roxanne and the people who claimed that they may have been allegedly raped, pagbigyan naman natin, napakahirap na lumabas na ikaw ay na-rape. Let us give them the benefit of the doubt," she said.
