Downright Unprofessional

How much does it take to be professional in one's dealings? How much does it cost to keep one's dignity intact?

A Media Scion MS of a big media company had a big wedding recently that was attended by hundreds of guests, notably from business, showbiz and politics.

Several months before the ocassion, MS and Wedding Coordinator WC were into rigid planning to make sure that there would be no room for mistakes. Owing to the size of the event, MS with WC made no stones unturned, down to the minutest details to achieve everything as close to perfect as possible. And why not, it was to be the wedding of a very special member of the family.

As such, MS and WC chose only the best quality and dependable suppliers to be part of the event, from the choice of the venue to the flowers, on to the food and the wine. For the musical entertainment, there were many considerations and referrals given, but MS and WC zeroed in on one that was touted to be one of the best in the industry, an eccentric and a Multi-Awarded Band MB , no less.

Came the wedding day. It was grand in all aspects, with the presence of the country's major movers and influencers. Every essential element of the ocassion was well-executed and went as planned. The occasion would have been perfect were it not for MB band who was tasked to provide the musical entertainment.

Generally in most weddings, the band starts to play towards the 3rd or 4th quarter of the program. Usually this is towards the end of the 6th course (aka desert and coffee time), often while the bride and groom start table-hopping for picture-taking with the guests.

At MS wedding, this did not happen. Why? Because the group of MB came in late - so painfully and shamelessly late.

As such, MB was not able to make due preparations for their numbers. For 30 minutes of they arrival, they were still doing sound check when some guests have already started leaving the reception. Family members of the couple and some guests were seen looking at MB with eyebrows raised, obviously annoyed for their major faux pas that spoiled the ocassion in a big way.

The very stressed WC was at a loss for words and profused with apologies to the couple and their families. What's worse, WC was aghast at the attitude of MB, looking unapologetic, without guilt and remorse at the extent of their unprofessionalism.

Turned out, it was not to be the worst. Since MB would be paid anyway inspite of, WC told them to perform since there were still some remaining guests to entertain. MB told WC that they wouldn't play unless WC issued them car pass! According to them, since they came in late, they parked somewhere else, away from where the venue was. Feeling entitled, MB minced no words that unless they were issued gatepass, they would not perform. They had the nerve to use a gatepass to blackmail a client? What kind of argument was that?

That was the height of it all - being face to face with a nightmare of a supposedly multi-awarded band. Paid in full despite their major faux pas, coupled with barbaric attitude unparalled in civilized society. You think they got brownie points for that?

Such gross unprofessionalism completely demolished whatever arguments they had.

" Professionalism is about having the integrity, honesty, and sincere regard for the personhood of the client, in the context of always doing what is best." ~ Eric Lippert

Janet Napoles Unfazed by Sen. Miriam Santiago

Source: www.inquirer.net

Janet Lim-Napoles repeatedly invoked her rights against self-incrimination when Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago asked if she knew the three senators who have been dragged into the P10 billion “pork barrel” scam.

The three senators implicated into the scam were Senate Minority Leader Juan Ponce-Enrile, Senators Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada and Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr.

During the Senate blue ribbon committee hearing Thursday, Napoles invoked her right against self-incrimination when Santiago asked if Enrile was the one being referred to as “tanda” in the previous hearings of the Senate committee.

When asked again by Santiago if Estrada was the one referred to as the “sexy” senator, Napoles said: “Hindi ko po alam (I don’t know).”

“Anong hindi mo alam. Alam mo e (What do you mean you don’t know? You know),” Santiago said, adding that Napoles should have just invoked her right against self-incrimination.

So Napoles invoked such right again when Santiago repeated the question and to another question if Revilla was the one being referred to as “pogi.”

“E di bilisan natin, puro ka pala I invoke my right… “ Santiago added.

But Napoles’ invocation of such right did not sit well with the lady senator when Napoles used it again to the question whom she had been talking to about the plunder case filed against her at the Office of the Ombudsman.

“I invoke my right against self-incrimination,’’ Napoles said.

“Sino lang kausap mo , I invoke my right? Aaah..” said Santiago, who was apparently getting impatient with Napoles.

She's Always Late

Glowing Woman GW and Her Fiance HF have been all over, excitedly proclaiming to one and all about their forthcoming wedding. Since their public announcement of the wedding, GW and HF's prenuptial photos have been proudly posted on social and print media regularly. Along with that were several interviews they granted on television and various print media talking about the preparations that are being made. Needless to say, everything points to how excited the couple are about their big day.

Earlier, GW and HF had been the subject of a blind item about an engaged couple who have been giving their Wedding Suppliers WS a difficult time. When the article came out, WS thought that everything would become easier from then on, but it was not so.

As the wedding gets near, nothing has changed as far as the demeanor of the couple GW and HF is concerned. They are still as unprofessional as they were months back, only this time, it is much worse - the couple have become habitual latecomers during meetings with WS. Definitely no way to earn good points.

Being reasonably late is fine, but to make (very busy) people like WS wait for them for hours is not only revolting but utterly insulting to one's person. It is so gross to subject anyone to such disrespect. Having found new celebrity status, GW and HF reportedly act like high and mighty, feeling like they deserve some entitlement and get away with everything.

Lately, there is always a Decision Maker DM present in their meetings. DM made it known to all that every detail must pass through him first for his approval before it is considered. As such, WS will have to consult with him every now and then. Would have been fine, but what's worse is that DM is also like GW and HF in character, or even worse, as he comes in 3-4 hours late.

As a result, working with GW, HF and DM seems like a punishment for WS that no one had anticipated – their chronic attitude had affected everyone badly. Having too many difficult people to please amid crazy schedules and character is definitely hell. If only WS could find a way out.

“ Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are.” ~ John Wooden

MTRCB Summons Arnold Clavio

Source: www.philstar.com

The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) summoned GMA 7 news anchor Arnold Clavio for spouting "rude language" on his morning show Unang Hirit.

The board found Clavio's behavior offensive to children while interviewing Alfredo Villamor, detained businesswoman Janet Lim Napoles' legal counsel .

"MTRCB to hear matter of alleged rude language in 5 Nov Unang Hirit episode this Monday am," it said on its Twitter account on Friday, calling for a meeting with the show's executives.

Clavio has also earned jeers from netizens and from media watchdogs for the interview, by which he slams Villamor for a confusing exchange and ruining his day.

MTRCB, reminding the show of its parental guidance rating, asked its producers to "wear the parent's hat" in hearing the board's officials in the conference.

"Per MTRCB records Unang Hirit is a public affairs program and has a PG rating ... Young people are part of its audience," the ratings body added.

Media watchdog Center for Media Freedom and Responsibility (CMFR) also criticized Clavio for his conduct as a public affairs personality.

"An interview is in the first place meant to solicit information and opinion from the interviewee, not an occasion for the interviewer to insist on his own views, much less berate the interviewee, who, in this instance, was moved by the ethics of the legal profession not to comment on a case other lawyers are presumably involved in," CMFR wrote in a November 6 post on its website.

CMFR had previously berated Clavio for his "racist" remarks against the Azkals also made in Unang Hirit.

In a statement issued following the flak, Clavio admitted that he "went beyond (his) limitations" in speaking with Villamor over the phone.

"Sa sidhi kong malaman ang balita, inaamin ko po na lumampas ako sa aking limitasyon at humihingi ako ng unawa kung may nasabi man ako na wala sa lugar," the veteran journalist said.
