The Office of the Prosecutor of Quezon City has dismissed libel charges filed by ABS-CBN anchor Gretchen Fullido against ABS-CBN journalist Ces Drilon and ABS-CBN news reporter Marie Lozano.
Prosecutors recommended the dismissal of the libel charges, saying Drilon's and Lozano's sworn statements about Fullido submitted to the ABS-CBN Ad Hoc Investigating Committee are "not defamatory."
"In our point of view, the person who executed the same is merely stating her opinion or observation. Also, relaying to another person words which you previously heard is not defamatory and malicious," the resolution on the complaint against Drilon read.
Fullido earlier filed sexual harassment charges against former TV Patrol supervising producer Cheryl Favila and segment producer Maricar Asprec, alleging they "sent her text messages that were loaded with sexual innuendos, which amounted to requests for sexual favors."
The management of ABS-CBN Corp found Favila liable for gross misconduct while dismissing the sexual harassment case against her, leading to her dismissal from the company.
Fullido also filed libel charges against Drilon, Lozano, and ABS-CBN News executive Venancio Borromeo for allegedly damaging her reputation when they said her administrative complaint was a way to leverage her employment status in the network.
Fullido's lawyer Marvin Aceron earlier accused Drilon of victim-shaming when she submitted a sworn statement that said Fullido only laughed off comments about "her body, manner of dress or behavior that, in my opinion, constituted sexual harassment or at least inappropriate behavior."
Drilon also recalled a statement made by Fullido that she was "willing to wear a bikini with an inflatable pool with bubbles to shove up the ratings of TV Patrol."
Fullido accused Lozano of libel after the latter executed a sworn statement to the ABS-CBN Ad Hoc Investigating Committee, saying Fullido filed a complaint because "she wanted to hold on to Star Patrol."
"Before all this, rumors were spreading that the time has come for her to be replaced after celebrity patrollers started sitting in for Gretchen. The issue blew up after Kim Chiu whose stint was a trending topic said (in Mario Dumaual's report) that she was ready to do Star Patrol anytime," Lozano's statement read.
Drilon has said it was "unthinkable" for her to "belittle" victims of sexual abuse as she was also a "victim of sexual harassment before."
"Throughout my life, I have been an advocate of women's rights and women's empowerment," she said in a statement.
"It is unthinkable for me to say what Gretchen Fullido alleges," she said.
"I would never belittle any woman coming out to speak of any abuse committed against her. It is everything against I stand for as a woman," she said.

The Absence of the Artist

Every year, a Group of Advocates (GA) come together for a fund-raising event with the who’s who in society in attendance. The event is highly anticipated, as GA would host a glamorous and worthwhile program. Besides, for the older generation and upper echelons of society, being invited and attending the event says one is in the inner, exclusive circle.
For the event, GA planned a fashion event to showcase the brilliance of local designers. Originally, the plan was for several designers, but once GA talked to a Top Designer (TD), the line up was down to two. One designer was tasked to do the clothes for the opening set. The rest would show the line of TD.
The deal was set and GA was assured of the commitment of TD, as he would be the main featured designer. Besides, TD’s name is synonymous to fabulous outfits that the most beautiful women beyond the world would wear. TD would be trustworthy, as GA confidently thought.
The agreement was sealed and the cost for TD’s services was nearly a million for the set. Members of GA were going to be the models and each participant or her sponsor shelled out the money. It did not matter, as the event was for raising funds for the projects of GA. Fitting was not even scheduled because GA trusted TD.
Several hours before the event at a posh ballroom of a high-end hotel, the gowns of the first designer were ready and the models were prepared for their walk. However, tension was high, as the gowns of TD, which allegedly numbered to almost 30 were still incomplete. Worse, some were haphazardly done, like work was crammed the day before the event. As TD’s set of models waited for the other gowns, the organizer’s greatest nightmare was coming true. Other than the poorly done outfits, the clock was ticking and the show has to start even if the gowns were incomplete. All possible means to contact TD were blocked and messages could not seem to reach him. The show must go on even if the disappointed models, who had hoped to walk in TD’s collection but did not have gowns, stayed in the corner and wept out of dismay. They knew that the people who had hoped to see them walk on the runway would wonder why they would not go on stage.
When curtain call came, the first designer came out, but TD was nowhere in sight. The silence of the audience was undeniable, as no words could express their disappointment as someone like TD, whom they trusted with their event, failed them and led to an embarrassing night.

Detestable Manner

When a huge company wanted to impress their guests with the show, the Company Representatives (CR) hired Performer One (PO) and Performer Two (PT) for entertainment. PO and PT were thought of because they appeal to several generations and would definitely make the audience excited.
During negotiations for PO, CR was shocked at the amount the performer was demanding. The seven-figure payment for three songs was overwhelming. Considering that PT had the same fee, CR could not believe that PO had the tenacity to price her performance at the same level as PT. PO justified her fee by saying that she is much in demand for events. Besides, PO even kidded that she is at the same level as PO, as they are working together in the same network. The confidence PO exuded impressed CR and the company granted her fee. Having PO as part of the performers would connect with a certain sector and CR wants to capitalize on that.
On the event day, PT, known for her professionalism, arrived earlier than her call time. It did not matter to her that she was going to be the finale. For PT, the discipline to be on time has been ingrained in her and no wonder, as she is one of the renowned talents of the industry.
Time was ticking and PO was nowhere in sight. Thus, the decision was for PT to already perform, and since she was a trooper, she did her numbers without fuss. Finally, PO arrived. During her performance, PO failed to hit the notes, not just in one song, but in two. She only has three songs and she failed in two. Then, PO apologized to the audience, who were disappointed at her. She said she was tired and not feeling well.
After her number, CR asked PO what was wrong. PO said that she came from an event, where she sang as well. At this point, CR called her attention to the fact that she would be getting an amount that would make her more than a millionaire for a couple of hours, and yet, she took the opportunity for granted. Despite the disappointing performance of PO, CR gave her fee as agreed upon. However, CR and the company are now making sure that PO will never be hired again for her services. In addition, her lack of professionalism will be made known to other PR practitioners for them to think twice before hiring her for events and perhaps, endorsements.
