In one of her projects, PA had to undergo a transformation that seems to be taking a toll behind the scenes. PA has been having a hard time in delivering her lines in a manner required by her character. According to the character profile, PA should be exuding more sophistication and a certain air in her scenes. Lucky for the production team, PA could act out the sophisticated and proud parts of her roles. In fact, she has improved much as an actress and can match skills with her co-stars, except for one area.
As PA is portraying a changed woman, she is required to deliver certain lines in the Queen’s language minus the accent, of course. Thus, PA had to deliver some lines in English, as her character required. However, the behind the scenes situation has proven difficult for PA, her co-workers, and the production team. PA apparently has a hard time pronouncing certain words, and thus, the scenes were taking longer to shoot. When she had to do a scene with Award-Winning actress (AW), several takes had to be done, which make AW impatient. The writers even had to cut short a few lines to make sure PA could deliver well. A speech coach was finally hired to assist PA, as lessening her lines in English would greatly affect her character.
One day, AW and Co-Star (CS) were talking about their children. AW said she was proud that her kids stayed in school, while CS said that before she would allow any of her kids to get into the entertainment industry, they need to finish school first. Unwittingly, PA overheard this conversation, and she could not say anything to the two older women. All she could do was to pretend she did not hear anything, as she realized where AW and CS were coming from. However, PA could not say that she had to skip school in favor of a showbiz career because she and her family do not have a means of living. Given that she has filial connections, the way to help her family was for her to venture into the business, and thus, sacrifice the opportunity to acquire good education.
‘I believe that we can, in a deliberate way, articulate the kind of people we want to become. We can articulate the culture that we would want to exist in our family, and you can then, as the rest of life happens to you, you can utilize those things to help you become the kind of person you want to be.’ – Clayton Christensen
