Letter to Miriam Quiambao

Dear Miriam,

Congratulations on standing up for the truth given by God in the Bible! Literally interpreting the Bible is what we should really do. The word of God is the word of God. Those who believe in God shouldn't doubt the Bible: each word in the Bible, each punctuation mark, each syllable was written by the owner and creator of the universe, period. I love your zealous and unwavering faith that everything that the Bible says is true and that we should follow it.

I know that we should take the Bible as it is. There's no doubt that God forbids cross-dressing; Deuteronomy 22:5 says that. Leviticus 18:22 implies that homosexuality is an abomination to God's eyes as well. But I'm having some problems with other verses in the Bible. Please help me with what to do about them because, just like you, I want to live my life in accordance with the word of God.

1. According to Genesis, God only created men and women. Nothing else, no one in between. Just either men or women. Now, Genesis 1:5 says that God created only evening and morning. There was no mention about afternoon, dusk, dawn, midnight, the blue hour, etc. As a literal follower of the Bible, how should I regard these "other" parts of the day? To borrow your own words, are they the "lies of the devil?" Why do we have these abominations? Is God testing my faith?

2. I'm so confused about what to wear now, Miriam. I feel that I'm such an abomination in the eyes of God. You know why? Detueronomy 22:11. God clearly and literally forbids wearing clothing made of fabric that are combined together, such as wool and linen woven together. I have lots of clothes made of combined fabric. What should I do with them? Should I change my wardrobe and burn all these clothes, just like how God burned Sodom and Gomorrah? Miriam, please promise us, in the name of the Truth contained in the Bible, that you will never ever wear such clothes! Moreover, Deuteronomy 22:12 says that we should place tassels on the four corners of the cloaks we wear. Why didn't your evening gown during the Ms. Universe pageant in 1999 have any tassels? Was this a flaw in the design? Or was the gown designed by the devil? Oh my God, Miriam, please burn that gown now, as that is not something God wants you to wear! Save your soul, sister!

3. I'm so disturbed by how marriage laws in our country work, Miriam. Clearly, this country will rot in hell. Why? It is not following Deuteronomy 22:13-20. We should include virginity tests for women before they get married. And if it's proven that these women are not virgins, we should stone them to death just like how Deuteronomy 22:21 recommends! Miriam, please tell me you were a virgin when you married your husband!

4. I want to share the truth of the Bible to my neighbor, Miriam. Here's the case: The woman's husband died recently; and they have no children. Deuteronomy 25:5 clearly says that in situations like this, the woman is only allowed to marry her brother-in-law. They are not following this. Should I go to them and share to them this Universal Truth so that they can follow what the Lord wants?

5. Miriam, I wonder how we can implement Deuteronomy 25:13. It says that we shouldn't have two different weights in our bags. Can you share to me the weights of the contents of your bag?

6. Leviticus 1:14-17 says that the smell of burning dove and pigeon is an aroma pleasing to the Lord. I tried to burn doves and pigeons yesterday as part of my daily routine in pleasing God but my neighbor stopped me. He said this is cruelty to animals. Can you help me pray over my neighbor's soul so he can finally see the Truth?

7. I'm very troubled by the presence of Lydia's Lechon in our neighborhood. Leviticus 3:17 clearly says that we must not eat any fat. Can you support my petition against Lydia's Lechon?

8. Why do people go to dermatologists, Miriam? Isn't this a clear violation of the word of God? Leviticus 13:2 is clear: When it comes to skin disease we must go to a priest, not a dermatologist.

9. One of my neighbors is poor. I advised the father of the household to sell one of his daughters as a slave so they can have money. He told me that I was insane. I told them God clearly allows this in Exodus 21:7. How much do you think he should sell his daughter for?

10. Miriam, why do people work on the Sabbath day? Exodus 35:2 clearly forbids this. Should we start putting them to death as the Bible recommends?

11. A lot of Filipinas work as domestic helpers in other countries. Most of them are beaten by their employers. Should we condemn their employers or should we just allow them to be beaten up as long as they can get up after a day or two, as what Exodus 21:20-21 wants us to do? It does say, “If a man beats his male or female slave with a rod and the slave dies as a direct result, he must be punished, but he is not to be punished if the slave gets up after a day or two, since the slave is his property."

A friend of mine told me that these words should not be taken out of context. I told him, No! These words are the words of God and they apply in every context, at all times, everywhere and every time, as God's words are eternal. Deuteronomy 26:16 is clear about this: "The Lord your God commands you this day to follow these decrees and laws; carefully observe them with all your heart and with all your soul." When I told him about that, he told me that God is shit. Oh dear, that comment ended our friendship. And I'm now actually planning the time and place where our entire barangay can stone him to death as recommended by Leviticus 24:16. Would you like to join us in fulfilling what the Lord our God wants us to do? Where can I send the invitation?

Distracting the Misery

Recently, model actor (MA) was spotted in a vacation island south of Manila. His good looks definitely attracted the attention of the other vacationers. A semi-retired actress dancer (AD), who happened to be there as well, did not waste time in taking advantage of the newly single MA.

MA could still be nursing his broken feelings because he seemed very disappointed that his relationship with privileged actress (PA) ended. Other than cultural and financial differences, a family member of PA does not like MA. PA was probably keeping true to her promise that she will now follow the advice of her parents in her relationships.

For almost five days, AD kept flirting with MA. She kept following him and making sure she was around where he was. MA seemed flattered by the attention given by AD and the other girls who would say “Hi!” to him. In short, MA enjoyed his celebrity status while on the island. As to whether AD succeeded in getting more than MA’s attention, your guess is as good as mine.

At the height of her popularity, fashion model/host (FM) dated quite a few good-looking men. One of them was the son (S) of an actor politician from the south. The catch, S was married with kids. These facts were hidden from the public when he first entered showbiz. Just like his father, S was an incurable womanizer. He even got linked to a multi-awarded actress.

One time, the wife (W) of S got worried because he was not answering her calls nor was he replying to text messages. Still, W burned the lines calling. Finally, a woman answered the phone and in an irritated manner said, “Will you stop calling! We’re having s-x!” Shocked, the very angry W drove to S’s condo. There she saw FM, grabbed her hair and dragged her out of the room towards the fire exit. The scandal was quite big and even reached the barangay. FM filed charges for physical injuries. But W was not to be outdone as she did a "tell all" to the police. Hence the charges filed by FM did not prosper. Still, that was not the end of it all. W called S’s father and reported everything. Poor S, he got a beating that he deserved.

Today, FM is still controversial in her love interests but she is not as visible on TV. S has focused his sights on a political career and has left showbiz for the meantime. As for his marriage, it’s over.

Former beauty queen/starlet (BS) of many years ago has reinvented herself as celebrity make-up artist. Since competition is also tough in this field, BS tries to be more entrepreneural to gain more clients. Apart from her own circle of clients, she flirts with just anyone: stars, politicians and talent managers alike for added connections in order to corner lucrative deals.

Talks have it that BS had long been separated from her husband with whom she has three kids. She was previously rumored to have an affair with an ex-mayor/actor, which they both denied. BS claimed it was just part of the work as photographer for his political campaign.

The latest buzz is that BS is now the latest girl of a big showbiz honcho widely known for being a womanizer. They are regularly seen in public, and were recently sighted shopping together in an A-list malls with her kids.

This big guy BG whose controversial wife CW is in forced hibernation for quite a time, is now getting remiss in his husbandry duties. When months ago, BG would visit CW, day in and day out, now he is slowly delegating his obligatory visits to his children and granchildren.

Care to rewind about a top gun's staff member (SM) who was linked to several celebrities? The rumor mill was then abuzz with his penchant for drinking in the company of women celebs that probably made wine more exciting and addicting to him.

Recent events prove that the rumor is valid after all. SM and this once popular singer (PS) are playing sweet music together. And what do you know, such sweetness translates to some sweet government contracts, too. PS has probably grown tired of being in a "cougar-like" relationships she had in the past . Certainly nobody can live with just pretty faces and zero pockets.

Hmmm...seems like PS has grown not just financially wiser, but a lot smarter, too - just like mom.

Smart-alecky Newcomer

After taping for his guest appearance in a drama series, this certain winner (W) joined a female cast member (FC) and her actor boyfriend (BF) for dinner and drinks at a restaurant. What seemed to be a normal getting to know you dinner did not turn out nice.

As they were drinking, W started bragging about the business and wealth of his family and of course, his winning the contest. FC and BF found him annoying and loud for a newcomer. BF tried to understand and stretched his patience further, thinking that W was drinking a bit too much.

Somewhere in the conversation, FC kidded her BF that W was quite tall unlike him. The height joke, of course, is always something fun for the couple. However, W, under the influence of alcohol, retorted by saying that he would make himself appear shorter on camera so that he and BF will have a matched height once they have a scene together. This remark rubbed BF the wrong way. Infuriated, BF replied that the next time they will have a project together, he vowed that he will "eat him alive" in their scenes, at the risk of annoying his director for violating a rule in acting which is to act to the level of your co-actor in a scene. BF even vowed that in their next scene together, he will make sure that W will look like a fool.

Sensing bigger trouble might arise, FC stopped them and concluded the night. W and BF did not talk to each other anymore - they paid the bill and left.

Although both are seen together, FC and BF have yet to confirm they are a couple. The network seems to want to have no publicity hitches in case they get linked to other talents. As for W, there are rumors that he was seen in a gay club prior to entering the door leading to the house of showbiz. What was he doing in that place then? Was he just there by accident?

The Other Side of the Controversy

The recent controversy regarding the alleged resignation of the head of the production (P) and his conflict with one of the main hosts (H) has deeper roots than what the press releases say. A source informed FP that P was not on vacation but was asked to leave by one of the top executives of the station. The top executive, who happens to be related to P as well, could no longer stand the unbecoming habits of P (being a womanizer and spending most of her money). Hence, P is also banned from entering the premises of the station, according to the source. A new director has also been tapped to take over P's task.

Sometime ago, P was in conflict with the big time host, who left the station. P promised the network he will come up with a better show but it turned out to be a dud. The network was not happy with the substantial loss incurred by P's project and it had to be cancelled.

As for H, well, it's a matter of waiting and seeing. His notoriety and the popularity of the show could not topple the rival. The rumor mill is abuzz that another show with other talents will be taking over the noontime slot, while the variety show will be moving back to its earlier original time.

Assets and Cash - the Family Feud

The recent sisters' act (S1 and S2) has shown to the world just how powerless anyone can be over the love/lust for money. It certainly knows no bounds anymore even among close blood relations. Too bad for some, materialism has consumed and taken over the real spirit of family.

In all fairness to S1, she had been a very generous family breadwinner during her career highs in showbiz. There was nothing she wouldn't do for her family - everyone who knows her will attest to it. But as it is said, not every good deed breeds positivity. For it has successfully brought out the worst in S2. Being the bigger star that she is now, instead of returning the love and favors back to S1, she chose to do the opposite, and much more. She peppered S1 with the most obscene and barbaric words unfit for human consumption - and all because of feud over money.

Heard from the grapevine that S1 consulted her father first before she filed a suit against her half-sister S2. It pained S1 to do the unthinkable to S2 whom she loved. But she can only endure so much, those unprintables publicly hurled against her by acid-tonqued S2 were the last straw. Lessons have to be learned.

On the other hand, S2's management (which is also S1's management) seems helpless controlling the damage the controversy has done to their wards. S2's deafening silence on the issue is obviously an order from her manager.

Can fame be so toxic? Does S2 ever realize that no karmic debts ever go unpaid?

How are you? I am from UK and I work as a care assistant. Just last night my husband and I were watching a program in BBC, a documentary about an elderly being abused in a nursing home, and we were so mortified to know that the caretakers involved are filipinos. I know that we shouldn't be ashamed of our own fellowmen, but what this certain Jonathan Aquino did was so humiliating especially to the Filipinos around the world. I hope u can feature this in your blog as it will serve as eyeopener for people working abroad, to remind us that we are not only carrying our reputation but our country's as well. Thank you.

Actions Speak Louder than Words

When their relationship ended, the singer (S) and the manager (M) kept quiet after a confirmation via a statement from M. M has since moved on and has opted to handle the career of other talents. When asked why they broke up, M merely responded by not revealing any details and saying that they still respect each other. Meanwhile, S has been linked to a winner (W) in a talent contest, where S served as W’s mentor. Incidentally, during the finals night of the talent contest, people noticed how M reacted when W was announced as the winner. M did not bother to clap at all.

During and even after the show, S and W developed a certain closeness, which prompted the spread of the story that W is the reason why S and M parted ways. Both are denying that something more exists between them despite the exchanging of “I love you’s” over Twitter. S has also given expensive gifts to W and the followers got to know about these acts because W openly thanked S via tweets and a senior comedian even teased S about it on national TV.

An interesting observation is that the denial can be fuelled, perhaps, by the fact that W is still a minor and S might be charged with violating a law in case they both come out with a relationship. Moreover, S has produced an album for W and the sales might be jeopardized in case a scandal breaks out.

Sadly, some people have noticed that W has developed a certain arrogance towards fans. Even her family members were not spared from being swellheaded. A close relation of W had allegedly threatened a certain fan who left W’s fan club because of how W and the family were treating her followers. The fan is a mere simple laundry and cleaning woman who became the victim of lies spread by the relation of W. Alas, some netizens have taken it to be their cause to bash W and S by tweeting harassing tweets over revealing the truth, church, guilt, among others. What’s worse with the tweets is that other celebrities are tagged directly with the messages.

The recent development is that both S and W have terminated their twitter accounts after someone tweeted that they were living together. S has also advised W to refrain from going online so she will not have to read anything negative about them.
