Competitive Splurging

Performer 1 (P1) and Performer 2 (P2) similarly came from humble beginnings and entered the industry with talent as their only weapon. Like most performers, P1 and P2 joined as many talent contests as they could until they were finally noticed by managers. As time passed, their careers prospered with left and right live shows, television appearances, and movie stints. Their talents were pure, and definitely, they earned their respective places in the industry.

Now that the entertainment industry is at a standstill, their source of income has gone nil. International and local performance bookings have been cancelled or rescheduled. However, the reactions of P1 and P2 to the crisis are different. While P1 has been vocal on the lack of opportunities, P2 has been quiet. As their careers progressed, P1 lived a carefree lifestyle, whereas P2 saved for a home and spent his money wisely.

Apparently, P1 has been beset with requests for financial help from his masseurs and boys who used to frequent his pad. As their services require physical contact, their work is almost non-existent as well. P1 has no extra cash to respond to such requests, as he does not have work himself. With frequent texts and calls from his boys and his inability to help, P1 would sometimes turn off his mobile.

P1 realized his money issue and perhaps has reflected on his days of being generous to the boys he was fond of. The money he spent could have otherwise gone to his savings. He was even competitive to the point that he would outbid the boys P2 fancied. P2, by contrast, never paid more than what should be for such service and he did not care much for competition. The competitive splurging of P1 brought him to his reality now, that is, not having much during the pandemic and work opportunities remaining elusive.

The sudden closure of a network left many personalities seeking solace among themselves, as the move was unexpected. Even non-active talents were checked by colleagues and asked if they had heard about the news. While most sympathized with the network, friends were shocked at reading the reaction of a Not-so-Active talent (NA).

Allegedly, NA replied that the network deserved the outcome and many reasons can justify the said closure. NA lamented that the network prioritized the new ones, which left her and colleagues out in the cold. NA cited that loyal talents were forgotten in favor of the new faces. Karma hit the network hard, she stressed.

One of the most shocked receivers of NA’s message was Male Colleague (MC). NA and MC have been friends for the longest time and both achieved the peak of their careers almost at the same time. MC did not reply to the message of NA anymore. The message could have ended at that moment. However, NA used that message as her template for other people who would ask her opinion. She even allegedly sent the message to talents who shared the same situation. As she was sending quickly, she accidentally sent the said text to Big Boss (BB).

BB was among the people who made sure NA was going to be competent during her time. As careers plateau, NA had to give way to new talents. However, when she needed a break, BB has been encouraging opportunities for NA, but for some reasons, such projects never pushed through.

BB would not let the message pass and subsequently replied to NA. BB found ‘karma’ unfair and NA should know that politics played a huge role in the mess. Then, BB directed NA to reflect if the network was really at fault when her planned projects failed to materialize.

Before NA could reply, BB blocked her number. Thus, NA could no longer explain to BB. NA attempted to contact BB via a secretary, but her calls were unanswered and even other bosses refused to answer her, too. The situation has become awkward and when work resumes at the network, rumors are loud that NA will not be welcome anymore. She allowed her bitterness to take over and burned her bridges with the network with one text.

Fans and friends of Female Talent (FT) are wondering why her Special Friend (SF) is slow to react and is not behaving as expected for someone who is close to her. FT has been under pressure amidst the imposed quarantine, uncertainty of work, and other related issues. Thus, FT’s circle expects that SF would be the first to express support for FT. That seems not to be the case.

After an unexpected crisis, friends and ordinary netizens expressed support for FT continuously. Meanwhile, no word was heard from SF who found out about the incident late in the evening, as he had overslept. SF allegedly has a nighty skin care routine that takes much time, and thus, leads to him sleeping and waking up late.

As FT seems to be a controversy magnet, nothing immediate was heard from SF when bashers were bludgeoning FT. Other co-workers once again backed up FT. This time, FT’s supporters crossed networks, but still SF was not as vocal. His behavior seemed timid considering he’s a celebrity connected with FT.

One day, FT’s Trusted Pals (TP) asked about the whereabouts of SF. Like many others, TP expected SF to comfort FT even by videocalls, as travel restrictions are imposed under ECQ. FT said that SF might still be asleep, as he has been spending late nights finishing Korean dramas. Then, TP kidded that they and SF are rivals for a cute Korean actor. FT allegedly replied, ‘I have no idea with that gay.’ Probably, FT was still depressed, as her unexpected reply shocked TP. TP then laughed hard and after a few seconds, FT took back what she said.

Quietly, days after the troubled moments, SF posted his message of support for FT. Expectedly, followers reacted with questions on why his reaction was delayed and where he was when FT was alone fighting her battle. Typical of his behavior, SF ignored such comments and bashing, as his priority is having FT in his life. Whether SF thinks of FT as his trophy girlfriend is a question he can only answer.
