Choosing to be Indifferent Instead of Saving the Family Reputation

Being part of society’s elite often adds pressure to meeting certain expectations that one should create a favorable impression in the eyes of the public. Other than debuts or balls, weddings are significant particularly if either party comes from a familiar name in high society. While non-showbiz clans keep their affairs private, the wedding of this couple was thrust in the limelight due to a controversy, which made headlines for a few days.

All ended well, as the couple was able to have their wedding in another venue. However, the aftermath of the wedding is another story. Allegedly, the couple still owes some of the suppliers involved in their wedding. The second round of checks allegedly bounced. Although the said amount might not be a big sum for either family, the businesses can feel the pinch of the unpaid accounts.

Allegedly, The Wife (TW) does not want to offer solutions for the problem and insists that the issue is the problem of her husband (TH). This attitude stems from the notion that the wedding was something that the elders of the groom/husband wanted. In other words, TW seems indifferent when it came to spending for their wedding. However, rumors have it that the side of TH is not really in favor of TW as their daughter-in-law, as she has a very strong personality and haughty at times. The parents, of course, have no choice, but to allow their son to marry.

The financial situation was made worse by the failure to sell a property, which could have made the groom’s family more liquid in terms of assets.

What is sad about this situation is that the payments are long overdue and the families involved belong to the moneyed. If they wanted to, payment should have been settled immediately. Now, this story is making the rounds in social circles and having debts could tarnish the family name. The elite will not look at this situation favorably. Instead of saving the face of the family she now belongs to, TW would rather detach herself.
