Meet the Family:

Crazy Uncle Richard – A real ladies' man, Uncle Richard can always be found sporting his favorite cigar and his stylish fedora. He loves golf and the good life. He was an incurable Casanova in his younger days and truth be told, he has not lost his touch. His over-the-top persona is bolstered by the strange magical things, which always seem to happen whenever he’s around.

Grandma Magi – She’s the matriarch of Cyril’s family, an adorable old lady that has a taste for mischief. Although she gets the senior’s discount, she has the youthful energy of a child, and she’s always got a story to tell. The secret to preserving her youthfulness is she loves to be around young people. They help her to appreciate the natural magic of every moment.

Cousin Tiny - This is one dude that you just cannot miss; most likely because he’s blocking your way. He’s never met a treat he didn’t like. But don’t let his size fool you, he has a knack for defying gravity. His bubbly personality and goofy laugh are infectious. As far as Tiny is concerned, he thinks he taught Cyril everything he knows about magic.

Cyril’s Family Vacation plays with human reactions - the close up reactions of those experiencing the impossible as well as the reactions of those who witness the magical commotion from afar. Expect the unexpected.

Miraculous things happen as the family is soaked in the sunshine and scenery of Oahu, almost as if Mother Nature had a hand in it. Don’t be surprised to find Grandma Magi wandering off on her shopping escapades, Uncle Richard proving his magical prowess on the golf course or even… Cousin Tiny defying Newton’s law of gravity to… hang off a tree!

The storytelling aspect, yes - that's what sets this show apart from any other magic series. While typical street magic series has the magician and camera crew approaching a crowd, the producers of Cyril’s Family Vacation: Hawaii Edition chose to up the ante – hidden cameras. This allows the story to evolve organically over six episodes and the amazing candid reactions that make for great TV.

Cyril who was born and raised in Los Angeles, California and now based in Tokyo, Japan, exudes the 21st century entertainer, capturing the very discriminating audiences worldwide. He was fascinated with magic early on in his youth. And at a young age of 15, he became a junior member at the illustrious Magic Castle in Hollywood.

As thus, he was instantly labeled the world's first "Cyber Magician" as he gained global popularity by becoming the most downloaded magician on the internet, with over 100 million views today on Youtube alone.

In 2007,  Cyril was voted "Magician of the Year"- a recognition given by his peers at the 39th Annual Academy of Magical Arts Awards, also known as the "Academy Awards of Magic,"  upping him to the level of past winners that included icons such as David Copperfield and Seigfreid & Roy.

During the presscon, I was made to join Cyril on stage. He made me hold a soda can that was full. Then he opened the lid, instructed me to turn it upside down and much to our surprise, nothing spilled! Then, he told me to hold the can again. And lo and behold, with his bare hands, he sealed the lid as if it were factory-sealed. After that, I felt, with my own hands, the solid contents of the can melt and liquefy. Then he opened the can once more and poured it out to reveal a waterfall of soda! If that wasn't mind-boggling, I don't know what is.

“Cyril’s Family Vacation: Hawaii Edition” will debut in the Philippines on June 10, 2012 at 8:30PM.

TV Host Strikes Again

Let’s face it. International stars who are interviewed locally expect that their interviewers are the best. So, we can just imagine how international star, IS, felt when TV host actress singer (TH) suddenly asked about her family. An FP fan called attention to the insensitivity of this question. It’s open knowledge that IS was born in prison, and her mother had troubles with the law. Recently, her mother sued IS for money. A mother extorting her daughter is big news but it is quite sensitive. The mother lost the lawsuit, by the way.

Had TH done a bit of reading about IS, she would have avoided asking that sensitive and personal question. There was a very slight hesitation in the answer of IS. In fact, IS mentioned “father” and “cousins,” and there was no mention of mother. Worse, TH reacted with an overused expression when IS said that she has not seen her family in a month. Did TH forget she was interviewing an American, and values do differ when it comes to seeing family?

When TH is given her next interview assignment with an international star, she could do better by not trying too much to connect with the guest. TH sounded pathetic and shallow when she reduced the fashion sense of the series of IS into the wearing of headbands that everyone, according to TH, copied. She even mentioned the dog of IS but that dog already died (updated research would have avoided this). TH tried to connect with IS by saying she also has a dog. The four-minute interview could have been better with better questions, which means better preparation.

Some years ago, this pretty, "morena," beauty pageant winner was not yet a popular singer (PS) that she is today. One day, she made an inquiry about a unit in a particular condominium project somewhere in the south. She got interested and wanted to buy. Expectedly, she did call attention being pretty that she was. During the processing of the transaction, one of those who "noticed" her was the owner/developer himself (OD). A woman admirer to the hilt, the much-married OD got attracted to her. Not long after, romance bloomed.

Consequently, company insiders were abuzzed about the affair. They maliciously made fun of the OD and PS and confirmed that it wasn't just the sale transaction that pushed thru but something more than met the eye. PS and OD soon found themselves really in love. But owing to OD's marital status and the business image that he had to consider, both OD and PS couldn't go public about their relationship.

So in order to satisfy their yearning for each other, they went on frequent trips abroad. It was in one of those trips where it was alleged that PS got pregnant. Both OD and PS hid her condition until she eventually gave birth abroad.

To this day that she is already known in the music world, she hasn't admitted anything regarding the matter. As to her relationship with OD? They had since parted ways.

Another Painful Story of a Failing Business

Every so often, stories about the ups and downs of celebrities are either inspiring or frustrating. Most viewers love watching how a small player rises from being a nobody to one that is famous and respected. One sector that is full of such stories is the fashion and beauty industry. Most of today's successful beauty experts began from the lowest of ranks and moved up because of hard work and celebrity endorsements.

This hairstylist icon (HI) began her career with help from a family member. Unlike other stylists, HI was studying in a university when she realized she had the talent for making people beautiful with her scissors. While working in a salon, HI eventually started earning recognition for her name and the salon in the mid 80s. HI became quite famous and celebrities flocked to the family-owned salon. HI gave back to the community by establishing a school and imparting her knowledge through hair clinics.

Business was booming then. However, things did not turn out for the best. Sometime ago, HI bought a mansion in an exclusive subdivision and lived a lifestyle fit for her status. Then, business became bad. Other salons and hairstylists came into the picture. Added to this development is the proliferation of salons that offered cheaper rates. Hence, the business of HI suffered. Coupled with a lavish lifestyle and a failing business, HI had to choose. Out of the six branches, three were closed down because rent could not be paid. Then, the employees started to receive their salaries late, and their contributions were not remitted to the SSS. The turn of events is quite sad because the welfare of the employees was compromised. Perhaps, HI can live a less lavish life, and adjust to the times. Although, HI is an established name, there are younger and more creative talents in the industry who can very well be her competition and cut into her business.
