He was Just So Loud

During a solemn school activity, this politician was standing at the back of the venue, holding an unlit cigar and talking non-stop to his friends. His voice was just so loud that it was echoing across the hall. He only lowered his voice when he heard some of the parents go shhh! 

When the activity was finally over, he rushed outside to light his cigar. The students that were coming out of the venue had to cover their nose because they could not stand what they were smelling.

Letter from a Reader: Business Closed = Lost Consigned Goods

Dear Fashion PULIS,

From 2006 to 2007, I consigned several designer items with this certain make-up artist who was trained in abroad to sell at his store in Rockwell. Initially, he would pay for the goods sold but when his store closed down in 2008, I stopped receiving checks from him. I tried to get back the unsold goods but he was nowhere to be found.

I remember bumping into his business partner at the mall several times. His business partner by the way is a fashion designer who is one of the officers of a group for designers. One time, when this designer was hanging out with some friends, he had an alarmed look on his face when he saw me. He hurriedly stood up, walked away from the group and told me in one corner that is aware of the situation. He promised me that he will get in touch with me once he sort things out with the make-up artist but since then, I never heard from him again. The estimated value of the goods I consigned with them is around 500,000 PhP.

I have never changed my mobile number or my email address. I do not have a Facebook account but one time I asked a friend who has one to send this designer a message reminding him about their obligation. As expected, my friend did not receive any reply. I have tried to text and call the make-up artist many times but he keeps changing his number.

At this point, I do not really care anymore about getting paid or getting the goods back. I am just so enraged at the audacity of these people to publicize their "posh lifestyles" and "European education" in the magazines when in fact they could not even pay for their debts. I guess dishonesty is truly the new black.

Ready to Go Anywhere?

Why do men with beautiful and intelligent wives have extra-marital affairs? Is it because these men have self confidence issues? Is it because they feel that they are inferior so they cheat to make themselves feel better?

In my opinion, I think these men look for other women to reassure themselves that they are still good looking, powerful and rich. A man's desire to conquer another woman sexually is resulting from his inflated ego and his need for acceptance. These men also tend to intellectually and emotionally compartmentalize their activities so that they avoid the feeling of remorse or shame.

One example that I can think of would be this certain actor with a beautiful and intelligent wife. In spite of this, he has repeatedly invited this non showbiz girl to go out on a date with him. He told her that he was ready to go anywhere with her as long as it was somewhere outside of Manila. I guess he was just being careful because he knows that his loving wife will turn feisty once she finds out about this.

Just a Little Consideration

Last Saturday night, this actor and his actress girlfriend attended the birthday party of another actress from the same network. At the party, the actress girlfriend was already annoyed because the actor got a bit drunk and became too friendly with everyone including his two former girlfriends.

After the party, the actor dragged his girlfriend to meet up with some friends in a hotel somewhere in Makati to continue their drinking session. The actress had a show to do the following day so when it was getting too late for her, she repeatedly requested the actor to bring her home. She finally got upset when the actor stopped paying attention to her and just continued drinking with his buddies. Instead of arguing with the actor, she kept quiet, stood up, walked out of the venue and left her wasted boyfriend behind.

Better Know Your Co-hosts!

The members of the production team of this television show are aware that this actress is not the most pleasant person to work with. So when they heard that she was going to be one of the temporary hosts of the show, they did everything possible to make her feel welcome. They greeted her warmly when they saw her arriving at the set. She, on the other hand, gave everyone else a blank stare and marched straight to the dressing room.

When she entered the dressing room, she saw this make-up artist so she asked him, "Will you be doing my make-up?" The make-up artist politely replied, "No, I am one of the hosts." The actress rephrased her question and asked again, "Are you doing the make-up of the other hosts?" The make-up artist did not know if she heard his initial reply so he said, "No, I am a part of this show," and left the dressing room instead.

It is so obvious that this actress did not do her homework. She should know who her co-hosts are before she even joined the show. Unless she was just pretending not to know her co-hosts to annoy them, then that's a different story! Do you know who this actress is?

Managing Very Challenging Behavior

The owner of this certain brand met up with the manager of this actress/host to discuss the possibility of getting the actress as the brand's ambassadress. The manager was charging the owner close to two million pesos for the actress's professional fee. On top of that, she was asking for another one million pesos worth of gift certificate for her own personal use. The owner got turned off with what she heard so she still told the manager to give her a week to think it over.

After that particular meeting, the manager called the owner almost everyday to follow up on her decision. She even pressured her by saying that a competing brand is also interested to get the actress as its endorser. When the owner heard this, she politely told the manager to entertain the other brand instead because she is still undecided.

A few months later, the owner was surprised to receive a phone call from the manager. She told the owner that the actress is available again since the other brand decided to get another actress. Despite the fact that the manager was offering the actress to the owner at a lower price this time around, she turned down the offer immediately because she did not want to deal with this manager anymore.

Letter From a Reader: Unpaid Plane Tickets

Dear Fashion PULIS,

Last June 2011, this singer, her mom and manager flew to the United Stated for a series of concerts. Most of our clients pay for their plane tickets first prior to their departure date. However, in this case, the manager informed us that she will just settle the bill when they get back because she ran out of checks. Since she was referred to us by a close friend (former actor who is now based in Hong Kong), we trusted her and allowed them to board the plane without a doubt that she will pay us when they get back. In total, she got three Manila-Los Angeles-Manila business class tickets amounting to 440,000.00 PhP (four hundred forty thousand pesos).

A month later, the singer and her manager returned from the US. Her mother, on the other hand, decided to stay there for a little longer. When we sent the billing statement to the manger, she told us that she does not have money because the producer in the US failed to pay the professional fees. She started ignoring our emails, text messages and phone calls since then. I even requested our lawyer to send her a demand letter but she simply ignored it.

Our friend, who referred her to us, tried to get in touch with her but he could not reach her. Since we have not been paid, we decided to cancel the Los Angeles-Manila ticket of the singer's mother so she is still stuck in the US until now.

Everything Got Delayed

The director of this television series gave specific instructions to the make-up artist. When this reality star alumna turned actress did not like what her make-up artist did for her, she started acting like a spoiled brat and ordered him to redo everything. The make-up artist told her that he was just following the orders of the director but she still refused to listen.

When the director saw the actress, he was furious. Her look was totally inappropriate for the scene so he sent her back to her make-up artist. The make-up artist had no choice but to do everything all over again.

The entire production schedule for that day was delayed for hours because of the stubborn of one actress. After this traumatic incident, the make-up artist resigned from the show because he could no longer stand this actress' attitude.
