Original “Eat Bulaga” hosts Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto and Joey de Leon, collectively known as TVJ, have filed a complaint for alleged copyright infringement and unfair competition against “Eat Bulaga” producer Television and Production Exponents (TAPE) Inc. and media giant GMA Network, which airs “Eat Bulaga.”
According to reports by The STAR’s Cecille Suerte Felipe, TVJ filed the complaint last June 30, after TAPE and GMA aired and replayed some “Eat Bulaga” episodes without the trio's consent.
Today, July 12, TAPE and GMA reportedly received the summons from Marikina Court, requiring them to file an answer to the complaint within 30 days.
It can be recalled that last May 31, TVJ and the rest of the Dabarkads or their “Eat Bulaga” co-hosts came to work but were not allowed to go live by TAPE. Instead, TAPE and GMA played past episodes of the show.
Right after, TVJ and the Dabarkads filed their mass resignation from TAPE and signed a deal with MediaQuest Holdings Inc. to move in TV5 with a new noontime show, “E.A.T.,” which premiered last July 1.
In his latest press interview, former senator Tito Sotto said TAPE has no right to celebrate “Eat Bulaga’s” 44th anniversary this coming July 29.

Mahina ang signal, waleyy sikat na artists, puro anime sa primetime kaya araw araw pinapalamon ng alikabok ng abs ang kamuning at tanggap ng gmewww na 2nd best lang silang tv network at malayo agwat nila sa abs in terms of ratings. Iilan lang halos nag re rate sa kanila nung mga panahong Yun- SIS nila Janice at gelli at ilang comedy shows mostly ng TVJ. Then, everything gradually changed for kamuning when TVJ and the legit dabarkads went over da bakod. Pumatok ang afternoon soap na daisy syete so na secure na ng kamuning ang afternoon block. That served as a catalyst for kamuning to slowly but surely improved their primetime block, then marinara came into the picture, and the rest is history. TVj Ang naging inspiration ng kanguso para magpalakas ng pwersa. AT DI MALAYONG MANGYARI RIN YAN SA TV5. SIGURO NADAMAY NA LANG GMEWWW SA SOBRANG SAMA NG LOOB NILA. Who knows, yung pagiging wala nilang contract ang magpanalo sa kanila sa kaso dahil walang pinanghahawakan ang tape na bayad nila si Joey for the title "Eat Bulaga" na alam naman ng lahat na sya ang creator. I sympathized with them at first bit got turned off with their arrogance and hateful remarks against their employer and with GMA 7 which provided them a home in which they ( TVJ ) obviously prospered. They becane wealthier because if the program. Hindi sila kawawa dito. I stand with GMA7.

DeleteIt looks like the goal of TVJ here is to really get back the name and so they’re putting pressure even on GMA.. Eat Bulaga is their life’s work, not only for TVJ but for the others in the prod. A conflict had started and yet GMA didn’t seem to care about the legalities concerning the name or IPs in the show, allowing continued use of the name on their network.

ReplyDeleteI read from Inquirer that the copyright infringement filed against TAPE and GMA is on the use of name and logo of “Eat Bulaga” AS WELL AS as airing of replays without consent.

ReplyDeleteI'm with TVJ on this one. Matatanda na yang mga yan, hindi na pera habol nila kundi dignidad at saka respeto. Hanga ako sa pinaglalaban nila. Kasi biruin mo kung sila lang hindi matira sa EB dati walang problema dahil they have earned enough pero they were looking out for their friends na unjustifiably mawawalan ng trabaho bigla like Ryzza, Paolo and Ryan. Dahil lang biglang nangialam ang adminsitration ng TAPE.
ReplyDeleteLahat dito nagsasabi na laki pakinabang ng tvj sa gma/gozon. Baka nakalimutan nyo prior sa pag boom ng AD which is EB segment ay binebenta na ang GMA. Dahil sa dami ng ad loads na dinala ng AD sa network they were able to sustain and decided not to sell the company to RSA. Their relationship is a two-way street. Napaka babaw na dahilan na bound sila by contract. They can mediate between two parties. Wag igaya ang situation nila sa ordinaryong tao na nagtrabaho sa company they are not employed, they are talents. Check the deciskon for Jay Soza vs ABS case.

DeleteTVJ do not have shares with Tape, so essentially they are NOT owners of Eat Bulaga. It's as simple as that. If they really cared for the show, why didn't they buy shares and even made copyrights? Laziness maybe and wanting to just get paid? BRATS.

ReplyDeleteNaku, answerable dito si Tony Tuviera, the former president ng TAPE sa di pagpapasweldo. Vic Sotto said that he already received the P30 million salary payable to him for one year. So tama nga yung nabasa ko dito sa isang comment, hindi naman kawawa o kinakawawa ang TVJ. Mind you, each of them - Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto and Joey de Leon are individually very rich and powerful.

Tapos yung ibang taga-finance dept. na nakakita ng mga anomalya finances, pinag-force resignation din. Ang TVJ, tatanggalin together with Ryan, Paolo, Ryzza and Maine. Duh, ang nag-resign ay sina Ryan, Jowapao, Ryzza and Maine. DeleteThere are a lot of factors which contributed to GMA7's growth as a media giant; 1) fiscal management 2) integrity 3) professionalism of the officers and staff. I watched GMA 7's programs especially its news program and several of its evening programs. Of course, bahagi ng GMA 7 yung program ng Eat Bulaga na may block timing agreement sila. Eat Bulaga benefited from the exposure from the breath of GMA 7's reach nationwide.

DeleteGMA is the broadcasting network. For this reason that they may be liable to copyright infringement for airing of replays in June and continued live airing of “Eat Bulaga”. Let the court decide on this para matapos na din ang usapin on who owns the right to the name of logo of “Eat Bulaga”. It’s understandable why TVJ stance on this. It’s their legacy. They’re right fighting for what they believe is rightfully theirs. In the same way, TAPE and GMA can fight back in court.
