He was very critical of another director’s work, as if he’s implying that CRA was not worthy of all the accolades and box office revenues. Their success is simply a fact of life in show business, he shouldn’t have criticized CRA the way he did, parang naiingit siya or nanggagalaiting batang paslit na naagawan ng candy. He should’ve practiced restraint since he is in the same line of work. #VeryTypicalMatti #VeryPoorCharacter

    3. It's not about voicing out our opinions publicly, we just want to exercise our freedom of expressions.. Kaso THE WAY we say/express them shows the kind of character we have as a person..

    4. It was not bitter. He was objectively speaking aa someone who knows a lot about movies.

    5. As if hindi sya overrated! Asar!

    6. No, 711, Matti was overly critical and arrogant in his post. “People who live in glass houses should not throw stones.”

  3. Yan nag boomerang tuloy iyong opinion mo sa quality of movies that you made.

  4. It wasnt taken out of context. The arrogance and bitterness just screamed all over your "critic" without even considering the status of your own country's movie plots and clichés. CRA is a mainstream movie. It was meant to highlight asian presence in hollywood. It's clearly a feel good movie.

  5. It was meant to be overhyped. Its an all asian ensemble in a hollywood spotlight and thats the main point. And IT IS A BIG DEAL!

  6. gets ko point nya, kaso hindi naman nya na-phrase ng maayos opinion nya. his post reeked of ignorance and bitterness.

people have different reasons for watching movies. people have the right to hype something they enjoy. people can express differing opinions too, pero syempre huwag naman maging condescending about it - which he was.

    1. Tumbok mo 12:46 everyone has different preference. To each his own. And don't impose your standards on others.

    2. I honestly enjoyed the film myself and made me appreciate our culture back home. I dont think CRA is targeting Oscar's or any award giving body. What they are aiming for is to make an all-asian cast movie without it being stereotypical (kung, fu/karate or third world-purita plot) and sell big. It's not intended to be artsy or to raise awareness or advocacy-it is clearly intended for people to feel good. A chick flick. So yes, cliché kung cliché, but you cant dictate people what to like.

    3. That movie mirrored the culture and tradition of a certain ethnicity. It showcased the stark difference of western upbringing from the traditional. I dont understand what direk Matti was yacking about as thats really what the story was about to make asian culture known to other cultures while it revolves around a love story. I actually liked it bcos it showed how asian families are deeply rooted that sometimes they give up their personal hapiness to fulfill their obligations.

  8. I wonder if he really did think what he earlier posted took much care to be worded right. To me it came out uninformed as to the goal of the movie because in interviews the actors admitted that the story is indeed a cliche but wanted to highlight the all Asian casts and how a cliche story is told in the view of Asians. Sure he might have missed out on those but it doesn't hurt to look into such details other than trailers, reviews, hype and the movie itself. I'd rather be informed first than to put out an opinion that would bite me later.

    1. Exactly. The audacity of jon arcilla who admittedly didnt even see the film and just relied on people “who laughed at the movie” when it generally received positive reviews.

  9. Nagpost din ako dati on my social media about not liking CRA as much as I would've wanted given that it was an all-Asian cast. But that maybe it was because I didn't enjoy the book either and just wanted to see if the film version was any better (since there was a lot of US-media buzz about it).

  10. CRA never claimed it's an Oscar-award winning film. Yes, trite ang storya, plot is gasgas na, but that wasn't point. Apparently, Direk also missed it. The film had an all Asian cast, relatively unknown Asians, who look ordinary by Hollywood standards. Yet, there they are on big screens where Hollywood movies are shown, they broke through. That was the hype, as everyone knows it's very difficult to get Hollywood's attention.

Ang lumalabas tuloy, Matti was bitter. Mantakin mo, sa tingin nya, mas maganda pa ang mga movies na ginagawa nya compared sa CRA, yet waley Hollywood attention given to him.

    1. Matti never aimed for hollywood. What film are you talking about? Tsaka mahiya ka namab kasi mas maganda talaga yung ibang works ni matti than CRA. Trite plot, cliche tactics, and highly pro-chinese racist.

Pero at least hindi pro-US racist! So yay! Suportahan ang chinese supremacist film!

    2. 7:15 he never aimed for hollywood mainstream. But he’s always dreamed of international recognition like mendoza. Kaya nga pilit nagpapaka “deep” with his current works lol

  13. Direk, your words were of palengkera tone and I highly doubt it was carefully thought because if that's how a carefully worded statement is to you, migosh...

  14. Even the Asian millenials here in Toronto said that they're PROUD of the movie.

Meaning, mas maraming tao ang nanood just to enjoy.
