    1. yasss.. overhyped. milyong beses ng napanood yung ganyang theme. watch nyo na lang yubg a star is born, maganda pa.

    2. Maganda panuorin yung mga japanese films talaga

      Delete
    3. Parang Darna paulet ulet lang!

    4. Might be hyped, but do not discredit naman the hard work na for a change, (aside from Jackie Chan) wala sa sidelines yung Asian actors sa Hollywood. That in itself is a huge step para marecognize naman ang talent from the East. This is also a move for TRUE diversity in the industry. Not like just putting an Asian guy in a Marvels movie and call it diverse. Kaya importante din po.

      Delete
    5. 1:19 how ironic for you to mention na marami nang lumabas na ganyang kwento tapos biglang a star is born ang pang argue mo?

      Delete
    6. Si Direk Erik Matti din naman overhyped... it takes one to know one

      Delete
    7. I agree. Honestly hindi ako nagandahan sa movie at all. Yes it was funny at times pero the story was so cliche... sobrang taas lang ng ratings because its an all asian cast movie.

      Delete
    8. Agree ako jan 2:36. The nerve for him to make a statement like that, e over rated nmn sya. Imbes na mging msya nlng sya kc nbgyan ng opportunity ang mga asians to showcase their talent, kuda pa sya, as if relevant naman sya. Che!

      Delete
    9. Agree to 2:12. Hindi nila gets bakit big deal ung CRA. Or typical Filipino trait, crab mentality lang peg ni Matti.

      Delete
    10. Sabagay nga 2:36. He's not 'all that' like he projects himself to be. Soooo... hinay-hinay din sa pagcriticize ng bongga.

      Delete
    11. This is a nice movie pero the theme is not new to us.parangvmano po lang. But since it is Hollywood, minsan minsan lang ang gabito sa kanila

      Delete

    1. So bago dahil 50shades na me twist pa me halong Cinderella lang.

      Delete

      Delete
    3. THE CAST NEVER SAID NAMAN THE PLOT/STORY WAS "NEW." IT WAS A SUCCESS BECAUSE ALL OF THE ACTORS IN THE MOVIE WERE ASIANS OR HAVE ASIAN BLOOD AND THE MOVIE WAS PRODUCED BY A BIG PRODUCTION COMPANY IN HOLLYWOOD.

      Delete
    4. Dear Mr. Matti, may nagclaim po ba na may baho sa CRA? Wala naman di ba? Also, if it is nothing new, naisip mo po ba yung ganyan? Di ba para naman ikaw yung kumita. Di naman eh. Kasi inspite of it being a "nothing new", you were not able to think of the same.

      Delete
    5. 2:58 malayo namang mas.original si erik matti magsulat. Mahiya ka naman. Naging all-asian cast lang, original na. Nauna na ang joy luck club sa all-asian cast and that movie had a lot of depth. Itong CRA, kababawan at gasgas na plot devices at story

      Delete
    6. 5:18 - WAS JOY LUCK FUNDED BY A BIG PRODUCTION HOUSE?

KABABAWAN? WHAT THE MOVIE SHOWS IS VERY COMMON TO ASIAN CULTURE. IYONG MAYAYAMAN AYAW NAMAN TALAGA SA MAHIHIRAP MOST OF THE TIME. THAT'S NOT COMMON IN FIRST WORLD COUNTRIES WHERE SOCIAL STATUS DOESN'T REALLY MATTER.

      Delete
    7. 5:18 All I am sayin was, sana di aya condescending when it comes to questioning other movies... Not everyone is as "original" as he is. Lol. He isn't even original. Watch Hollywood B movies and you'll know what I am saying about him not being original.

  3. Overhyped movie with an ordinary plot naman.

    1. I like Constance Wu tho. She’s really genuine on her ig plus she has a pet bunny

      Delete
    2. Yung movie yata ang tinutukoy dito, hindi yung real life persona nung character.

      Delete
    3. 1:47 appearance nung actress yung tinutukoy ni 1:11 so it goes without saying they don’t like her physically. But she’s cute and funny IRL

      Delete
    4. Actually for most people, its not abt the story or the movie itself, but the wish that films with non-american actors, asians or asian-americans specifically, can compete in hollywood in terms of blockbuster, is now a reality

      Delete
    5. Exactly 219am. Baka yung character and her styling in the movie ang hindi bet ng iba. Ganyan din kasi yung nakita ko when I saw her.

      Delete
    6. The movie is funny and entertaining. What’s your point? Blockbuster pa.

      Delete

    ReplyDelete

    1. True. I am a bookworm kaya I really read all parts of the book. Pero this one, magandahan ako sa umpisa but halfway through it nabore na ako sa paulit ulit na details about their uber rich liestyle. Too much details na paulit ulit nalang. I skipped some parts but finished the book pa rin.

      Delete
    2. Wow you people are actually expecting the book to have depth when it has always been intended to be a light, summer chic-lit. It’s on the same league as devil wears prada and not trying to win the man booker or anything

      Delete
    3. 2:37 im not expecting much but there are light books na you can read all chapters kasi hindi paulit ulit ang details. This one my boring parts talaga

      Delete
    4. 2:42 you just missed the point of the book, that's all. Probably not your cup of tea.

      Delete
    5. Overhyped nga yung book. It's the sort you take on vacation pero kebs na lang kung matapos mo o hindi. At least yung movie tapos na in around 2 hours.

      Delete
    6. 1:49 u read all parts of the book... then inamin mo din that u skipped some parts.. ano ba talaga teng bookworm

      Delete
    7. 242 korek.

      Delete
    8. totoo, overhyped yung book. very common ang plot sa mga tele novela. sa simula very entertaining kaso nakakaoverwhelming na ang super rich lifestyle. i’m currently reading the third book at ilang buwan na di ko pa matapos tapos kasi nakakaumay na masyado yung lifestyle at yung kwento.

      Delete
  5. Maganda kaya ang movie.

    ReplyDelete

    1. mediocre actually.

      Delete
    2. I beg to disagree. It’s a typical rich family that doesnt like the middle class woman na yun pala mayaman yung girl etc etc... ilang palabas na nakita nating ganyan? Wala pa ngang twist ito eh! Mas magaganda pa mga korean romcom movies kasi may depth and twist stories nila... I’m really sorry but this movie was not great at all. Ive been waiting for someone to comment on this. All hype because of the all asian cast.

      Delete
    3. Mediocre plot and bad acting pa.

      Delete
  6. Truth naman. Perfectly put if i must say

    ReplyDelete
  8. It wasn’t anything special, really. A lot of weird unnecessary party scenes and yes, caricature characters like Jimmy Yang and Araminta

    ReplyDelete

    1. If you people had any sense, the books are supposed to be satirical to the point of mockery, hence the stereotypes and caricatures. Told by an author who actually belonged to that world.

      Delete
    2. 2:16 am, the author failed to make it satirical by painting very perfect protagonists and have everyone else revolve around them. Wala man lang naggrow as a character. Tapos sina rachel at nick, perfect example ng mary sue characters. The satire is a failure. Bumenta lang sa hypebeasts of US kasi feeling ng readers enlightended at woke na sila dahil lang asian ang author.

      Delete
    3. 5:24 thank you, that's also my impression of the book. If it's trying to be a commentary on the Asian upper class, then it's a shallow one.

Pero to be fair, may market talaga for readers who like that sort of thing, yung mababaw lang.

    2. @1:48, try to watch Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. All asian cast un. Maganda pa yung story ;)

      Delete
    3. 2:04 jusko literally decades ago pa yan. Kaya nga big deal regardless kung sa tingin nyo eh mediocre yang movie because it actually took decades for a mainstream company to produce another with an all asian cast

      Delete
    4. 2:31 the point is ndi first time na nagdodominate ang asians as some CRA cast or fans are/were claiming. ignorante lng?

      Delete
    5. But crouching tiger was not a hollywood movie lol asian made po yun

      Delete
    6. First time kong nakapanood ng All-Asian english languange na galing hollywood.

      Delete
    7. Ewan ko sa inyo, all star asian cast in a hollywood produced movie, OBVIOUSLY sa asian produced movies panay asian ang cast. Crouching Tiger is an Asian made movie na kumita sa US.

      Delete
    8. I think people have forgotten this all-asian cast Hollywood film "Joy Luck Club". Absolutely an eye-opening film.

      Delete
    9. 2:56 mas ignorante ka ata. Not one of the cast claimed that they’re the first. Lagi nga nila inaacknowledge joy luck club. Big deal sa knila because it took decades after joy luck club to have another us-produced, all-asin cast movie

      Delete
  12. It is a big deal because it’s an All-Asian cast in a Hollywood produced movie. Something that hasn’t been done in a long time after The Joy Luck Club.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Kaya siya pinanood ng mga tao is because of the all-asian casts! The movie is about showing the culture of asians, both the good and the bad side of it. We think it’s cliché kasi alam na natin yan, but showing it to Hollywood viewers is different and they liked it!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. True. At least this time, hindi exoticized ang asians

      Delete
    2. Point is, if you are going to make a movie or anything that will represent all asians, make it good. This movie really isn't something to brag about.

      Delete
    3. This. Ito talaga yung dahilan why some people watched it. Wala namang nagsabi na the movie deserve an Oscar. Medyo may pagka-insecure lang dating ni Direk.

      Delete
    4. It was just an ordinary asian movie..nothing special really!

      Delete
    5. 3:52 they never claimed that the movie represents ALL asians

      Delete
  14. Halata tong director na toh walang alam. The story might be a cliche but for Asians who lives in the US like us it’s such an honor. Finally a movie in Hollywood with all Asian cast. Kaya tumahimik sya. Halata tuloy.

      Delete
  19. I watched the movie thinking na baka typical asianovela ang plot at style ng storytelling, pero it was surprisingly better than what I expected. Sure, hindi groundbreaking ang concept, pero it was nice to see a movie na hindi tungkol sa martial arts, second world war, poverty porn, or story na kailangan ng asians ng “white savior”, which is common sa hollywood pag asian characters ang usapan.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  21. Direk Matt, watch ulit pero this time pay attention to guy’s angst-mahal nya nanay nya pero mahal nya yung girl and malaki responsibilty nya as next gen; examine mo ulit yung nanay and her sacrifices, expectations .... kaya kumita CRA kasi sa Westerner di nila alam nor mainyindihan ang responsibility ng anak sa pamilya and this movie captured it. Go beyond the rich and excess portion and take a look how they got there.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. True. The movie also shows how asians value their family.

      Delete
  22. This director is completely CLUELESS. He would never grasp and understand the true major impact of the movie to the millions of Asians including Filipinos in the US and all over the world especially those who live in Western countries!!!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Yes this is a typical Asian story but it's something refreshing to Western culture. I actually had to explain to my coworkers that's how rich Asians are.

    ReplyDelete
  24. True..prang filipino movie nga..rich boy meet poor girl..rich boy mother d like si poor girl..

    ReplyDelete
  25. It's not overhyped, talagang proud lng talaga ang Asians na may representation na, as in Asian representations. Hindi lng basta2x support role, pero lead role and the story itself is Asian. US seldom lng ganyan noh, yong rugs to riches or, rich guy falls in love with a maid or anyone beyond their circle.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Common din naman yung ganyang stories in the US but usually those plots are found in their soap operas or straight-to-video B movies. Ang bago sa CRA isnt really the story but the all-Asian lead cast.

      Delete
  26. He’s right. The only difference with this romcom is that it’s an all Asian cast.

    ReplyDelete
  27. in my opinion lang naman.Sa Pilipinas, this theme is not new pero sa konteksto ng Hollywood, minsan lang nagpapalabas ng ganitong films na bida ang Asians.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  32. Nabasa nya ba at napanood nya ba ito?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Matti knows nothing about how difficult it is for asians and asian movies to be taken seriously in Hollywood. Madaldal lang pero ignorante naman.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Ikr? Movie review? Lol ilang months late ka na koya

  34. they didnt claim that the story is extraordinary. and yes, the difference is that, its an all Asian cast. okay na yan, blockbuster naman.

    ReplyDelete
  35. hiyang hiya ako sa gagamboy at pedro penduko mo erik matti.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  37. I dunno if I should agree with him cz di naman cguro basta2x yung production nila. And for them to click cguro dapat talaga magpa uber hype sila sa promotion.

Ito lang masabi ko with my experience. Yes, I've read the book prior to watching it (I collected all 3 books) pero naantok talaga ako sa movie. Maybe becoz I already know the plot(?) or becoz I'm not totally convinced of the lead role's acting (?). Si Michelle Yeoh lang ang interesting for me.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Sipsip naman tong si John Arcilla. D naman nya napanood pero kumuda pa. Araykupo

Erik Matti linis linis muna sa sariling bakuran okay?

  39. Blockbuster sya dito sa Canada & US...i rest my case. They never claimed that it's a super duper movie.

    ReplyDelete
Napaka feeling entitled.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I just hope that when Erik Matti makes films they'd come out to be exceptional and worth-watching and they'd turn out to be iconic and make a mark in Philippine movie history. I am ignorant about his films so please enlighten me.

    ReplyDelete
  44. We live now in a world na hype is everything.kahit basura nagiging ginto basta tama at maingay ang pag hype.sa mga artista, movies, pagkain, make up and the list goes on lahat basta may strong social media presence nabebebenta sa mga tao.kaya kahit gasgas na linya tong sasabihin ko how i wish to go back 20 to 30 years ago na lahat simple lang.or kahit nung time na wala pang social media.where things get the credit they deserve.real talent and real gems not just pure hype

    ReplyDelete
  45. wala na yung post nya to sa IG? was looking for it!

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  47. So what if it's a "hype"? That's what producers target naman, hype! Granted that all are artistically done in their own rights (it's all gonna boil down to which among them gets the hype!) and Direk Erik Matti shouldn't have said something of bad taste kasi it will make him seem bitter in all angles. Kahit sabihin pang opinion nya lang yun. Should have kept it to yourself because you're not just undermining something that involves a Filipina, but worse, you trivialized the work of your fellow Asian!

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  49. I hope we can learn to be just happy and supportive to fellow Asian filmakers. Enough of this crab mentality. While I understand that film as a form of art is subject to scrutiny ,I find it unethical for a filmmaker to make such statements against another filmmaker.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  51. Just echoing everyone’s sentiments. I don’t get the logic/purpose of his post. Super tagal nang na-release yung movie. It’s a romcom, formula naman talaga yung rich guy + unconventional girl + disapproving family = true love / happy ending. Also, it’s based on 2013 novel, so hindi naman talaga bago yan. If you want to promote na may project ka in the works, you don’t have to bash someone else’s hardwork. At least even if old storyline, may achieve naman yung film in terms of elevating Asian actors in Hollywood. Let you work speak for itself direk, try mo din mag-hollywood sama mo na si john arcilla.

Yung totoo, nag-audition ka din ba for a cameo kaso fail? Ask kris for tips next time.

    ReplyDelete
  52. While I agree that the movie was a cliche romcom movie, Kaya sya celebrated and successful is dahil sa all-Asian cast which dapat happy si Direk kasi sinisimulang iembrace ng Hollywood ang mga asians. Isa sya sa makikinabang if ever, kaya wag sanang magbitter-bitteran.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Nag try nga ang netflix na bilin ang movie pero naniwala ang producer at director na it should be shown in cinemas kasi once in a lifetime sya, tong si Matti masyadong technical.

    ReplyDelete
  54. He deleted his post about Crazy Rich Asians on IG, mukhang pinutakte si Direk ng hate comments
