  1. That is hardly an explanation. He basically justified the team's wrongdoing. If anything, he came across as unapologetic and arrogant. Yes, coach, the rest of us 100M+ Filipinos were not there, so we don't know what happened. Still, from where we stand, you and your BOYS were an embarrassment. You should be ashamed of yourselves. The classy move would be to own up to what you did - no excuses, no fingerpointing!

    1. @1:18 Filipinos basketball players were hit not once but 5 times and you still expect them to just take it and not retaliate? They went there to play basketball not get whipped, how about Australian players showing respect, good sportmanship and be a good host country first. Why should Gilas players take all the blame when Kickert was also an aggressor.

    2. 1:18 sikuhin kita while playing basketball, wag kang gaganti ha. Ikaw mag sorry sakin kasi bisita ako

      Delete
Lets stop playing the victim just to justify their actions. If we really want to talk about what started the chaos, unfortunately, we instigated the first attack kaya nagkagulo wag nyong itwist yung nangyari.

9:28 tutal gantihan gusto mo, ayun ginanti ni kickert si goulding nung siniko ni Pugoy so does that make his actions right already?

    4. eh di sikuhin mo rin while on court, hindi yung nanununtok with matching resbak from the bench. alam nyo ibig sabihin ng overkill?

    5. A lot of us are torn right now...some strongly justify Gilas’ unsportsmanlike behavior as some sort of a battle cry against bullying. But I beg to differ. Why?

Above all else: the National Flag.

That is what they are. Their jerseys are not mere playing uniforms. Regardless of the bullying and/or the taunting, they carried the national colors, they were The Philippines, 24 hours a day, while they were in competition. That is what these higher tiered athletes are supposed to be. They train on a higher level not only to hone their skills, they sacrifice so much because all that they go through is meant to teach them mental toughness, to be the best of the best in the country. To be able to withstand and endure whatever comes. To carry the national flag in their minds and their hearts—Always.

Team Australia demonstrated unsportsmanlike behavior-yes, but did The Philippine Team have to throw it down with them in the sh*ts? As athletes, there is always an internal voice that encourages to keep going, to show their greatest efforts, in this case, on the hard court. To stay the course and perform their duty for the flag, for the country. They could’ve just gone out there to help their teammate and facilitate to stop the brawling. That could’ve been done...it has been done before. What happened to mental toughness? To national pride? All gone in a second because their collective emotions got the better of them. I know, not everybody will agree with me here, but my disappointment stems mostly from the missed opportunity to “show-up” on the world stage, to be the model athletes to our youth, to be above board, to be beyond reproach, and be the best they can be in all aspects...and if all else fails, to live up to their name—they are after all called “Gilas Pilipinas.” Chot Reyes is a great leader, and he is standing by his team, I understand that. I sure hope that he not only remind them of how good they are, but to also refresh in their minds and hearts the value of wearing the Gilas name, and what it means to carry the national flag, that when they are called to compete, they are called to be their nation’s champions (win or lose) in every corner of the world, wherever competition takes them.

      Mabuhay ang Pilipinas.

    6. 11:28 alam mo ba yung offensive foul? Kababayan mo ung unang sinaktan uy.

    7. 12:27 THIS!! The chance to represent your country is an honor and privilege, not a right!

      Delete
You are completely missing the point. Tanggalin mo yung element ng lokasyon ng laban. Sabihin nating they were in a neutral location, neither in the PH or in AU. Tama na bang makipagbasag-ulo then?

      Delete

      Delete
    10. Hay, 12:27. If only coach Reyes and the team can read your comment.

Walang wala itong sila Pingris & co. pagdating sa karakter at leadership. Mga weakling.

      Delete
    13. I agree with 12.27. It was a poor showing because it showed poor character all around. The team showed false pride and weak spirits. The heart of a champion doesn’t reside in the hearts of these players. What a damn shame.

      Delete
    14. Sorry 1227, I agree with some of your points but I disagree with the part about Chot Reyes. That team has cultivated an undisciplined behavior because their coach ignored the signs. If he ran a tight ship his players will not act the way they did. Maybe you are friends with Chot that’s why you are complimenting him. He is the captain of the ship, so what his team is, he is.

      Delete
    15. 4:07, Grabe ka rin eh no? Do you expect Chot Reyes to throw his team under the bus? Of course he will stand by his team.

3:57, Sir or Ma’am, Absolutely agree their actions are not inspiring at all. Unfortunately, they don’t make them like they used to. Mga walang disiplina pero ubod ng yayabang.

12:27, Very well said. They need to hear or read what you have said right there. Gone are the days when we had national players who took to heart what it meant to “carry the National colors”. Agree with how mentally weak sila, they couldn’t focus on playing ball because they were psyched out even before they started the game. All that happened is bad for Philippine basketball.

      Delete
    16. BOYS weak under pressure + Coach and senior players w/ no moral leadership = 🇵🇭 team

      Delete

Pero sa nangyaring ito parang to become part of the Philippine team is really nothing special, nothing to aspire for. Thumbs up 12.27!

      Delete
    19. Good comment 12:27 on all points, but even if you understand Chot Reyes’s position now, don’t you think that he should resign his post for his poor leadership? As for the team line up, they should build a new team, grow them like how Coach Jacobs did before. — Old school basketball fan

    1. If he's going to contradict his team's action publicly, then it means they didn't have his support at para bang he abandoned them already. For sure, pagsasabihan talaga sila ni Coach Chot in private. Pareho lang yan sa kasabihang, the captain goes down with the ship, walang iwanan.

    6. 7:38 coming from a fellow filipino, it's more sickening to know how you condone such wrong doings. It could have been better if they played well and win the game, isnt that the best revenge? If I get bullied I 'll show them how great I am in my field that's how you teach a bully. You don't teach a bully be by turning yourself into a bully too.

8:49 i still root for them and will cheer them on but will not tolerate their actions. If you really care for them, sana naisip mo na pwedeng madisqualify o maban yung Philippine team sa ginawa nila.

I salute Fajardo, Norwood and Amer.

If youre a good coach, you should know the rules, if you feel violated, there is a right venue to vent.

    3. I agree, there is a right venue to vent. Eh wala eh. The sins of others do not make us holy.
Their mistakes cannot justify our own wrongdoings.
Their mistakes are theirs and our mistakes are ours.
They are responsible for their wrong actions and we are responsible for ours.

  32. Chot still has a lot to answer for. He was saying na warm up pa lang na-hit na sila nung aussie player. Well I've just seen footage on the web showing Gilas overstepping the centre line during warm-up, tapos there was an attempt by one of the gilas players to trip one of the boomers. Nagalit tuloy yung aussie, kaso lang blamed and shoved the wrong gilas player. May nagsasabi na pina-urong sila ng boomers back to their own half, pero hindi naman sila nakinig. Pasaway? So as you can see from the get go, mainit na. So coach, please explain.. what were your players doing past the centre line during warm up? And how did you reprimand your player who tried to trip an opposing player during warm up? Mukhang mali ata yung recollection mo eh.

  34. All goes down to Chot and his team officials. This is not the first time Team Chot embarass Philippine Basketball. Time to sack him.

  35. Ginawang sabong ni Chot ang laro. After this disgrace, Gilas lost right to be called Philippine National Team and should not represent country at any level of Basketball competition.
