Insta Scoop: Angeli Valenciano Disgusted at the Treatment of Filipino Models, Including Kiana, During LA Fashion Week Show

“This is just going to make us tougher. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.” - my daughter Kiana on not being allowed to walk on the LA FASHION WEEK opening show. Former Miss Earth Jamie Herrell and Kiana together with 5 Filipino models (some of who had previously walked on the ramp for Fashion Week) were not being allowed to walk of the ramp for LA FASHION WEEK. “No Filipinos allowed to walk on the ramp!” We want to ask WHY? It was bad enough that you didn’t want to allow the girls but was there a need to publicly humiliate them? And there were only three designers on that 9pm slot. And two were Filipino - Rocky Gathercole and Resty Lagare. Filipino models could not walk for the Filipino designers? Thank you to Jacob Meir of For the Stars Fashion House for standing his ground and fighting for the Filipinos as the five models, Jamie and Kiana were his personal choices. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Thank you to @verygathercole @coutureprince @eliemadi for standing by the Philippine models, Jamie and Kiana. @forthestarsfashionhouse @kianavee @jherrell94 @cherryssalon @victoria_belo @johnlozano10 @rajolaurel @tony33chua @manilagenesis @garyvalenciano @chuckgomez05 @pacificrimvideo @kris_p_pata @kathlynanne @sthanlee @steve_angeles_ @noreen_lanie @petergonzaga salamat. The world is getting darker. We actually ought to just choose to be kind and just. What an experience ! Thank God our daughter lives for far more than just fame and glory. #kianavalenciano #kiana #lafashionweek #spreadlove @erikrosete

“The way you look should be the last thing on your mind when it comes to beauty.” - Kiana my daughter Walking on the ramp at LA FASHION WEEK would probably have been a check on my daughter’s bucket list as many know that she ran away from the call of showbiz for many years to sew and learn fashion design, even taking short courses in London to pursue her passion for fashion as she loved to draw dresses and gowns since she was little. This lady chose a sewing machine over more expensive, material presents as a must-have-gift as a teenager. To rob her of a dream-come-true opportunity was not nice at all. It was actually horrible. #kianavalenciano #kiana #lafashionweek @kianavee @garyvalenciano @paolovalenciano @yosameti @gabvalenciano @forthestarsfashionhouse @verygathercole @eliemadi @coutureprince @rajolaurel @johnlozano10 @erikrosete

  1. Mali not to let them walk. Pero I cannot help think din paano nag qualify si Kianna to walk the ramp? Obviously there are better models in the Philippines so bakit sya?

Im just being realistic..

  2. Asians are still considered minorities in the US, kaya hanggang ngayon e mababa ang tingin ng mga privileged white people sa atin. Sad that this happened to Kiana and the Pinoy models.

      Delete
    2. Actually, in LA, the real minorities are the black people.

I’m sure may real reason why they weren’t allowed to walk in that fashion show.

    4. Last time i checked asians are earning more than the others look at UCLA.

      Delete
Ang point is wala naman silang permit as models. Pwede silang manood pero not to work as models. Asan visa nila? tourist?

      Delete
    6. If there really is racial discrimination e di sana walang Filipino designers jan. Baka naman walang work permit or kulang sa height si ateng kiana.

      Delete

Talent does not always win sa America, please open your eyes. Models and actors are hired based on their social media following. Kendall is one of the worst supermodels to every graced a ramp. Naomi Campbell is not impressed with her.

This is the reason why she’s not booking as much gigs now because Cindy Crawford’s daughter came out of nowhere and stole her thunder. She is also a product of nepotism. You think these women worked hard as much as those other models that did not have a famous dakily and connections to back them up? No, it takes thrice as hard for them.

Obviously her connections are not enough sa States. They are nobodies there, so their privilege is gone.

      Delete

      Delete
    4. If it is indeed true that the organizers said that no Filipinos will be allowed to walk on the runway (and announce it at that), then don't you think that's enough to "pull the race card"? They could've chosen to use the term amateurs or even unskilled, but to use the qualifier "Filipino", that is an entirely different scenario. Naabot ba ng comprehension mo? And btw, your reasoning - "LA FW knows how to roll it" which to you means they're never wrong,is so trying hard pa-fashionista. Sorry not sorry din.

      Delete
    5. Sorry but yes , hard to root for this one , proud and leaning towards fanatic patriot that I'd like to think I am.

      Delete
    6. I don't think this is true 2:39 its not because they're Filipinos but they don't have a work permit as models in the US. Tourist visa is different from Working Visa. 2:39 wag palaging racism ang peg.

      Delete
    7. Kung ako nga nman stage director wala sa aura ni Keana maging ramp model dinamay p ung mahinhing beauty queen na pang beauty queen kumilos just to justify racism na kahit payat hindi pinarampa

      Delete
    8. Why were they invited in the first place???

      Delete
    9. 6:35 Perhaps they were invited. They were just not chosen. That is life.

      Delete
    10. 6:35 may sagot na ang produ diyan. They were not invited. Some scammwe (previous organizer) accepted bribe from Kiana and those other Pinay models for them to be included in LAFW.

  4. What was the reason given at bakit di sila inallowed? May permit to work there. For foreigners/fashion models kasi to work here in the States i think they need to have an H1B or O-1 visa.

  7. Welcome to the modeling world. It's a cutthroat industry. Why does Angeli sound a bit entitled in her post? It doesn't seem like Kiana is an actual model but that she was asked to model, either due to connections or plain old nepotism. She aspires to be a fashion designer but nowhere does Angeli say her daughter is an actual model. And that's probably why they were not allowed to walk. They're not real models who had to go through go-see appointments to convince designers to cast them, but they're "personal choices" meaning they got the job through connections. They basically skipped the line, didn't go through proper casting, and would have taken opportunities from actual models who needed this job. That's likely why they were not allowed to walk the runway.

      Delete
    6. Pansin ko lan huh not all models are really that tall when we speak of model height standard. Kate Moss is only 5’7 yet she graced the runway. Cara is only 5’7 and a half. Selita Ebanks is 5’8. I think makukuha rin yan sa face, aura, lakad and attitude. Sa pagkakaalam ko 5’8 is even short na for a model height standard. Speaking of this fiasco, mas mabuti siguro if Angeli also spoke about the reasons why those Filipina models were not allowed to strut the runway. Madaling ma butthurt and mag alburoto.

      Delete
  12. What's the other side of this story? Is it due to disorganization or misunderstanding? Why would they invite those models to walk the runway if they weren't going to be able to? Something doesn't add up. Did the Filipino designers demand for them to still walk the runway despite someone telling them they can't? The designers should've also stood their ground. If they won't let u pick your own models then protest and don't show your collection. Stand with your own!

Walang problema na mag work ka as a model doon.

    4. What!! Former Filipino? Honey, from skin to bone, you’re still Filipino. Its your nationality, you cant change it. You could change your citizenship a 100 times but you will never be “former” Filipino. you made me laugh 😀🤣🤣🤣

    5. hirap sa mga tumalikod sa sariling lahi, mayabang. fyi, obtaining a working permit abroad is far different from purposely turning back from your citizenship by blood plus taking oath of allegiance to another country.

    6. Nationality mo po ay American but your Ethnicity is Filipino pa rin.

Minsan intrusive pa na tatanungin ka about your immigration status, just so they could subtly brag that they're US citizens. Always amusing to see that kind of crap though, cause those types of people are always the ones who end up playing themselves, especially pag yung mga FOBs that they used look down upon eventually make it.

Some people may say that is enough, but you don't normally hear of, let's say, americans, na ineexploit sa trabaho pag nangibang bansa sila. Pero ang pinoy, mapa blue collar o white collar, usually have to endure more crap and work twice as hard.

    8. 12:52 You expect too much from your host country. Of course you have to work twice as hard. But doing so and proving yourself gains some respect from them. That is the reality of life in a foreign country much less the greatest one on earth. Don't force yourself on them. They will grow on you eventually. They can smell fear.

    1. true, and pano sila makaka work nga as models kung hindi sila citizen. I don't think nilalait ang lahi nila pero naman di ba obvious na waley work para sa mga hindi citizen. 2. True 1:56 and 2:49. US citizen here and agree with both of you.

    3. Korek!

      Delete
    4. Green card process ko 7 years. Citizenship process ko 5 years. It's one of the hardest things.

      Delete
    5. 12:00, bakit ang tagal? It doesn't take that long to get a green card and citizenship takes about a year or less to process just as long you've been here for at least 5 years.

      Delete
    6. That's right. Mine, I got my green card less than a year lng din 3 years for my citizenship. But case to case basis lng yan

      Delete
    7. Anon 5:25 that’s case to case basis. Getting a green card or citizenship is different for each applicant, merong maswerte merong namumuti ang mata sa kahihintay. Family based is fast while employment based application moves like a turtle. Basa basa rin day pag may time.

  37. Hmmmmmm.......do they have work visa for the US? If they don’t have work visa, then they should stop complaining. This story is incomplete.

That kinda implies na pag pinoy, more likely na undocumented lol. How did they even determine na walang papers yung mga pinoy just by looking at them. Yung Jamie din, filam na pinanganak sa california, tapos yung ibang models as per the post eh rumampa na sa fashion week before (assuming na sa US din yun). Oh well.

Kaloka...
