A Jeopardizing Move

A wedding is a significant event in which couples only want the best of services to make the day memorable. Thus, wedding services that seem to have an impressive reputation are contacted and deals are finalized. The deals are done in good faith, goodwill, and trust. A contract is sealed and money is given to service providers to assure that they will indeed deliver. Given that most service providers are in demand, couples who pay for these professionals would have sealed the deal in the earliest time, which is usually a year before the actual wedding date.

When this couple decided to get married, their families only wanted to get the best services for their wedding. One crucial factor in the wedding, other than the solemnizing rites and reception, is the choice of professional wedding suppliers. Between the Low Profile Better Supplier (LP) and the More Publicized Supplier (MP), the latter was chosen. After a series of emails, the deal was sealed and MP received his down payment almost more than a year ahead of the wedding date.

Months later after receiving the down payment, MP suddenly emailed the bride informing her that he is backing out of the contract because he has an out of country shoot for that particular date. MP even said that he would just have his staff attend to the wedding. Of course, this suggestion was turned down. While the staff might be competent, the money was for the services of MP, not his staff. After being so stressed for several months, the couple decided to get in touch with LP upon the recommendation of the wedding coordinator. Sadly, LP was no longer available already.

Because a wedding is supposed to be a happy event and should be spared from negative distractions, the couple had no choice but to look for another supplier.  Lucky for MP that the couple opted to take the higher road because when he backed out of the deal, legal options were already being considered, which was the reason why his plan to return the down payment was met coldly at the onset.

As to the reason why MP reneged on his word of honor is that he found out that a celebrity wanted him to do her wedding overseas. Apparently, he opted for the highly publicized wedding of a Pretty Celebrity (PC) rather than a private one. Given that MP was out of the country for several days, he also bumped off few other weddings just to accommodate PC. The question is if ruining his reputation and professionalism was worth covering the wedding of PC.

“The older you get the more you realize that just because someone has an important job doesn't necessarily mean that they do it responsibly, or are even good at it. There are many 'D' students running around with high social status gained from their seemingly important positions. Integrity and proficiency are not a given. These qualities can only be proven over time.” ― Gary Hopkins

    1. Doubt it will affect his business. Celebs are his main clientèle, the more high profile the better for his brand. Normal customers will always want the most sought after provider.

  7. J! I think he is really that good at his craft so he has the right to choose. Besides, normally contracts state that in the event the main v can't provide service blah blah... Though, I would still prefer honesty over hypocrisy.

    2. define simple weddings.. ano pa nga naman ang kukunan nila sa simple weddings? everytime, suppliers have the right to refuse to clients that wont jive to their service

    4. I have to disagree with 11:45--Bakit lahat ba ng weddings kailangan may theme or yung sobrang bongga to merit his services? Dapat out of town or dapat ba nagliliyab Yung damit ng bride? If he needs all those "extras" so he can render his services, then I question his capability. His job is to help create the wedding story of the couple. Just because simple ang wedding na gusto ng couple, it does not mean it's not worth shooting. I get na the couple and the supplier may not jive because of creative approach pero to refuse a wedding because simple Lang ang kasal mo is plain snobbery.

  28. Not P. I am a fellow wedding supplier and I can vouch for him na hindi niya gawain yun. Last month, while his other partners simultaneously covered an out of town event, P was covering a non-celebrity wedding. Obviously P honored his commitment at that time even if the couple were not famous and the wedding was rather simple compared to the celebs. To him, they were clients nonetheless and he was there from start to finish.

I wouldn't doubt he would be able to live knowing he has ruined such to couples out there.

  30. Its J. He is like that. He also bumped off my wedding last 2006 for a celebrity wedding.

  31. J ito for sure. Heard the stories from their guests.

    PC = S

  35. Tama. This is J! Magaling but overrated.

    B is much better! :)

  36. B i think was faced with something like this, but unlike J, he still honored his prior commitment to the non-celeb couple. Why you do that J? You dont need the fame anymore.

    1. Ganon naman kasi talaga dapat, 1st come 1st serve and honor the contract,

  38. For me, his S**s are nothing but normal. Madami nang kaya gumawa ng mga ginagawa nya for a better rate. Kailangan lang matyaga maghanap ang couples. Kasi may mga nagooffer ng ganyang services na bago pa lang sa business but you'll be blown away with their output.
    Yeah..

    ReplyDelete
  39. It's probably J. Our friend is a wedding coordinator and back in 2013, he did something similar. The contract stated that he would be present at the event, pero at the last minute he couldn't go daw and only his staff will cover the event. The reason? Some other more 'important' client. What he does is he will send his 'B' team to a different event and he will be with his 'A' team. So unprofessional. He's over rated guys. There are hundreds of other groups that are just as good, or even better, but don't have the marketing skills that this guy has.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Well stop hiring the guy then. Nadadala kasi kayo sa celebrity events.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Kakahiya naman itong si J! Major turn off!

Moral lesson: stay away from J because he will shatter your wedding dreams!

    ReplyDelete
  42. J. His works for celebrities are the only ones appealing, pag common and non showbiz couples, parang tinamad na sya. Ganon talaga, pera pera lang. Too overrated na rin.

    ReplyDelete
  43. A similar thing happened to me. Mga 3 days before my wedding, my p called me to say na nagdouble booking daw yung secretary nya at nakapagdown na rin yung other party (just like me). So he is sending his team B na lang daw & he will be there for my hotel preps. I don't know why he decided to choose to send his team B to my wedding and not to the other wedding but di na ako nakapagtalo & ayoko na syang pilitin kung labag naman sa loob nya, clearly he has decided to prioritize the other wedding. It was so sad dahil my number one priority sa suppliers ko was the p services (I was not fussy about the other things, not even my gown). Anyway, when I checked out the suppliers of the other wedding, yung mga big names yung nandun, so maybe that's why he chose it, bigger wedding and together with the who's who sa wedding industry.
