i dont think anyone should be liable for the incident, to be honest yeah dapat may marunong mag cpr or basic medical knowledge sa staffs but as far as the liability sa dept of tourism or sa government ng palawan, i dont think its appropriate pa.... palawan is a wild place and the sea is very mysterious, we have more knowlege of outer space than our own ocean, di kasalanan ng dept of environment kung di man sila na warn regarding deadly corals or what not. its like complaining about the beach being too sandy.

I dont know why you find this irritating. In fact, eye-opening nga ung post. Sometimes we get so used to some of the ugly situations in our country na parang tinatanggap nlng natin na hanggan dun lang tayo. Chris is right, there should be an accessible, highly efficient medical facilities in our provinces. Staff should be trained well--alam nga ng mga taga roon ang dangers of swimming in those areas, pero inaallow parin nila lumangoy dun. Well, if the govt doesnt want to prohibit swimming then they should train the workers well. Dapat may dalang mga pang counteract sa poison if ever meron. Sa laki ba nmn ng taxes and nakukuha nila sa mga tourista yun lang di pa magawa. Health should be a priority. If di magawang magpatayo ng engrandeng hospital eh bakit hindi palakihin lng ng konti ang mga health centers at bumili ng latest na med equip instead? Kahit sabihin hindi kaylangan kasi di nmn everyday nakakareceive ng emergency cases ang health centers,thats not a valid reason. It's the govt's responsibility na maibigay sa lahat ng tao ang isang advanced at accessible na health care system regardless syudad or barangay, maraming magiging pasyente or wala. Ang importante ay during emergency situations di kapa kaylangan magtravel ng isang oras para magamot sa isang hospital sa syudad just because wlang mas malapit na facility sa barangay nyo!!
Boatmen and divers in Palawan are actually very intune to what goes around in their ocean and yes, they are ill equiped for a place promoting their fantastic beaches. Kaya lang kung kuryente nga hirap sila dun what more medical facilities pa. The government should really put up a good enough hospital there since yun ang primary source of their income. Protect your investments bruh

Bawal talaga actually. Palawan is big on that kaya nga they don't allow mostly mga powered water toys like jet ski there. It's their guides responsibility to inform them of such because being tourist most of the times we are unaware of what goes ob deeper in a place. The guides are actually very knowledgeable pagdating sa dagat nila.
Sa coron kasi or el nido andami corals na ang gaganda kahit sa shallow waters. Kaya minsan naapakan no talaga ng do sinasadya. Kaya have to wear appropriate shoes or kahit sandals or slippers. Pero dapat protected ang paa.

i have marine biologists na friends and so far I asked them about it and they said, that rarely do people die out of Fire Corals. Either stone fish or kung sa coral man siya tumapak it means yung habitat nung coral yung nakapatay but not the coral itself. The thing is may batas pala sa PH na it says we are not suppose to touch or step sa corals so di ko alam kung paano sila makakuha ng justice. Tas nababayaran pa media. Taning lang, yung mga corals sa buhnginan tsaka yung nasa mababaw n parte ng tubig, ok lang yun hawakan/i-collect? Kasi nung nagpunta kami last time s beach hindi kami makapag-swimming kahit mababaw ung tubig kc sobrang dami coral dun s dagat, ndi mo talaga kakayanin kapag nakayapak ka.
Depende po kung ano ang reaction ng body sa toxin ng Fire coral. Please, if you have to stand, stand on sand - not on the corals!!! Hindi po sila mga simpleng bato lamang.
Went to Palawan last february lang and we were clearly told about the dangers sa creatures living there especially the stone fish. So we rented aqua boots. I dont know why nobody told them about it, but in our case, that was one of the first things na sinabi sa min ng tourist guide namin. It was even on tv screens sa boots/gears rental. It's sad because it could have been prevented. I think malaki ang chance na it was a stone \fish na natapakan because nagvomit sya. RIP
When my husband and i went to coron march 2012, they told us not to go to some parts of the lagoon and sa may shipwreck bec madaming poisonous corals daw and unknown fishes. Then dun naman sa island na kinuhaan ng boracay ng white sand kaya nakalbo, may mga poisonous jellyfish din kaya wag daw magswim dun sa may left part. I dont know ha pero baka hindi kayo nakikinig nun ininform nila kayo? Kasi mismo japanese na kasabay namin, natatakot lumangoy dun sa part na bawal kasi nga they know that kind of coral and no antidote daw dun, in minutes you will die talaga. I just hope mali ako ha. Kasi kung hindi kayo nakikinig sa boatmen, it's a shame naman na yan ang dahilan ng pagkamatay ng friend mo.
I had to agree dun sa sinabi mo sa island na mina-mine for their fine sand we went there too and yung kasama naming nabiktima ng jellyfish late in the afternoon. As in sakto pagbaba nya ng boat bigla sya umakyat kasi super sakit ng paa nya. Nakita naming namamaga at hindi sya makalakad all throughout our trip. Tapos after a year hindi pa nawawala yung mark nung jellyfish kasi nangingitim pa rin yung foot nya.
Saka tama naman makikinig din kayo sa paalala ng locals. Kasi kami noon aside from sinabihan kami na mag lagay ng sapin sa paa kahit snorkeling lang, wag daw maingay. Respect din natin yung lugar especially Palawan is wild and sometimes the sea is very mysterious
It's most likely a stonefish. My dad is a Palaweño so I pretty much have an idea. What he said is true, not just Coron, but a lot of Filipinos are not ready for emergency scenarios. Lack of first aid training, work health and safety issues, etc. Pero may ugali rin tayong mga Pinoy na ayaw sinisita. Expose this news to the public and I bet, sisisihin pa nila yung victim at gagawan pa ng katatawanan yung sexuality nya. Truth is, most of us Filipinos are cruel.

Minsa napapaisip tlga ako pag sinasabi mga hospitable daw pinoy at mababait kesa sa ibang lahi pero yung totoo hospitable tayo sa balikbayan dahil alam na may pera yun tlgang dahilan. Kalungkot lang na namatay na nga yung tao tapos marami pa nag cocomment ng paninisi instead makiramay na lang. I met Miggy once when he accompanied a common friend to a VTR casting 5 years ago. I remember him for having such a beautiful singing voice (because he was singing while waiting for our friend's turn to finish the VTR and could give our current crop of singers a run for their money), and he was a carefree, cheerful, almost bohemian young guy that had no qualms talking to anyone. I just wished that he could've been more careful in swimming on coral reefs,because most sea creatures tend to mimic and blend in with the surroundings, as with any other animal in the wild. RIP, Migz. I know you will jam with the singing greats in heaven.
This is so heart breaking and scary especially we just went to Palawan 2 weeks ago with my family. Siguro if this happened before our trip I will be so paranoid and would not enjoy the whole tour.its so sad that this happened, they could have prevented it probably by wearing aqua shoes. Yung tourist guide kasi namin warned us before hand that we cannot go without proper aqua shoes because of the corals. So for us, di nman problema kasi we had it that time but for my sister's family, they dont have it. We were told na pwede nman daw mag rent because they really wont allow us to go to the tour without wearing it. So I guess, lets not take it against them kung pinu push nila tayong mag rent if we dont have it, maybe its for our own good din. Ingat lang talaga and hoping sana na yung mga tour guides meron silang dalang first aid kit sa mga bangka nila and if they are aware na may poisonous corals sa area, , the officials should have always been ready for antidote.So sad lang that it happened to them. Thanks for posting this. Oh my God. I was shaking while reading this because me and my friends just went to Coron for a short vacation two weeks ago. And I also heard about that poisonous jelly fish and Corals thingy. Oh my God! Mahilig pa naman ako sa dagat.
Never ever step on corals and wear aqua shoes at sa mga pupunta ng coron, do not fall for cheap boat tours. Better if you book with travel agencies at malinaw yung regulations, safety at insurance. sa experience namin last summer, we were offered cheap boat tours na kami lang but thats it wala insurance no food and your tourist guide is also your boatman. but we got the tour from a local agency doon lang sa bayan ng coron, we were joiners pero 6 lang kami sa boat, we were very well informed about the risk of stepping on corals and rocks na poisonous, we were equipped with safety gears, our tourist guide is very well trained, wont allow us to feed fishes, she even jumped to rescue a nearly drowning tourist from a different boat and the food served was really good. Babala lang.
He probably stepped on a stonefish. Stonefish has spikes on its back and just lies flat on the seafloor, with corals. It is extremely deadly as the spikes release poison when pressed. Death is within minutes. I'm surprised we have it here. And yes, these resorts AND PROVINCES should be medically prepared!
Tourists should be aware and respectful of their surroundings if visiting an unknown territory. Palawan is not Disneyland where everything is safe and at your convenience. To be fair this accident could have happened in any remote island in the world not just Palawan.
Yes po kahit mababaw. Nag El Nido ako before and hangang halos binti palang ang tubig papunta sa bangka e may stonefish na. So we were advised to wear aqua shoes.

Masyadong maliit ang isla para magpatayo ng napakalaking ospital. Sa tingin ko ang kailangan ng probinsya ay emergency air lift. At sa mga ganitong case, nature ang kalaban natin, wala pa yatang antidote ito, prevention and extreme warnings ang solusyon muna siguro.
I've been to palawan 2 weeks ago.... nung nag Island hopping kami ng friends sinabi muna sa amin ng tour guide namin yung mga do's and dont's na hindi dapat galawin, bawal magpakain ng fish...and wear slippers or aqua shoes while swimming...and nakakatakot umapak sa mga coral vaka kung ano yung matapakan mo...

ReplyDeleteBawal talaga actually. Palawan is big on that kaya nga they don't allow mostly mga powered water toys like jet ski there. It's their guides responsibility to inform them of such because being tourist most of the times we are unaware of what goes ob deeper in a place. The guides are actually very knowledgeable pagdating sa dagat nila.

DeleteSa coron kasi or el nido andami corals na ang gaganda kahit sa shallow waters. Kaya minsan naapakan no talaga ng do sinasadya. Kaya have to wear appropriate shoes or kahit sandals or slippers. Pero dapat protected ang paa.

ReplyDeletecondolence to the family. but this is how the Ph is. ever since. sabi nga "park at your own risk". magagalit din ako kung sa akin nangyari yan. unfortunate pero pulpol tlaga dito sa Pilipinas. no need to state the obvious. an tgal ng problema yang kakulangan ng aksyon sa health issues ng bansa. nagiging manhid na lng sa pagtitiis lalo na mahihirap.

ReplyDeleteMalungkot nga na walang magandang med facility.. malungkot na hindi marunong mag first aid ang boat men at ni hindi nila alam na may deadly corals dun... pero malungkot din na hindi siya nagsuot ng aqua shoes or slippers man lang na may strap. RIP
ReplyDeletei have marine biologists na friends and so far I asked them about it and they said, that rarely do people die out of Fire Corals. Either stone fish or kung sa coral man siya tumapak it means yung habitat nung coral yung nakapatay but not the coral itself. The thing is may batas pala sa PH na it says we are not suppose to touch or step sa corals so di ko alam kung paano sila makakuha ng justice. Tas nababayaran pa media. ReplyDeleteTaning lang, yung mga corals sa buhnginan tsaka yung nasa mababaw n parte ng tubig, ok lang yun hawakan/i-collect? Kasi nung nagpunta kami last time s beach hindi kami makapag-swimming kahit mababaw ung tubig kc sobrang dami coral dun s dagat, ndi mo talaga kakayanin kapag nakayapak ka.

DeleteWent to Palawan last february lang and we were clearly told about the dangers sa creatures living there especially the stone fish. So we rented aqua boots. I dont know why nobody told them about it, but in our case, that was one of the first things na sinabi sa min ng tourist guide namin. It was even on tv screens sa boots/gears rental. It's sad because it could have been prevented. I think malaki ang chance na it was a stone \fish na natapakan because nagvomit sya. RIP
ReplyDeleteWhen my husband and i went to coron march 2012, they told us not to go to some parts of the lagoon and sa may shipwreck bec madaming poisonous corals daw and unknown fishes. Then dun naman sa island na kinuhaan ng boracay ng white sand kaya nakalbo, may mga poisonous jellyfish din kaya wag daw magswim dun sa may left part. I dont know ha pero baka hindi kayo nakikinig nun ininform nila kayo? Kasi mismo japanese na kasabay namin, natatakot lumangoy dun sa part na bawal kasi nga they know that kind of coral and no antidote daw dun, in minutes you will die talaga. I just hope mali ako ha. Kasi kung hindi kayo nakikinig sa boatmen, it's a shame naman na yan ang dahilan ng pagkamatay ng friend mo.
ReplyDeleteI had to agree dun sa sinabi mo sa island na mina-mine for their fine sand we went there too and yung kasama naming nabiktima ng jellyfish late in the afternoon. As in sakto pagbaba nya ng boat bigla sya umakyat kasi super sakit ng paa nya. Nakita naming namamaga at hindi sya makalakad all throughout our trip. Tapos after a year hindi pa nawawala yung mark nung jellyfish kasi nangingitim pa rin yung foot nya.
DeleteSaka tama naman makikinig din kayo sa paalala ng locals. Kasi kami noon aside from sinabihan kami na mag lagay ng sapin sa paa kahit snorkeling lang, wag daw maingay. Respect din natin yung lugar especially Palawan is wild and sometimes the sea is very mysterious
It's most likely a stonefish. My dad is a Palaweño so I pretty much have an idea. What he said is true, not just Coron, but a lot of Filipinos are not ready for emergency scenarios. Lack of first aid training, work health and safety issues, etc. Pero may ugali rin tayong mga Pinoy na ayaw sinisita. Expose this news to the public and I bet, sisisihin pa nila yung victim at gagawan pa ng katatawanan yung sexuality nya. Truth is, most of us Filipinos are cruel.

Minsa napapaisip tlga ako pag sinasabi mga hospitable daw pinoy at mababait kesa sa ibang lahi pero yung totoo hospitable tayo sa balikbayan dahil alam na may pera yun tlgang dahilan. Kalungkot lang na namatay na nga yung tao tapos marami pa nag cocomment ng paninisi instead makiramay na lang. Panget tlga ugali ng karamihan sa pinoy lalo na generation ngayon ibang-iba na sa ugali ng mga tao noon.

DeleteI met Miggy once when he accompanied a common friend to a VTR casting 5 years ago. I remember him for having such a beautiful singing voice (because he was singing while waiting for our friend's turn to finish the VTR and could give our current crop of singers a run for their money), and he was a carefree, cheerful, almost bohemian young guy that had no qualms talking to anyone. I just wished that he could've been more careful in swimming on coral reefs,because most sea creatures tend to mimic and blend in with the surroundings, as with any other animal in the wild. RIP, Migz. I know you will jam with the singing greats in heaven.
ReplyDeleteThis is so heart breaking and scary especially we just went to Palawan 2 weeks ago with my family. Siguro if this happened before our trip I will be so paranoid and would not enjoy the whole tour.its so sad that this happened, they could have prevented it probably by wearing aqua shoes. Yung tourist guide kasi namin warned us before hand that we cannot go without proper aqua shoes because of the corals. So for us, di nman problema kasi we had it that time but for my sister's family, they dont have it. We were told na pwede nman daw mag rent because they really wont allow us to go to the tour without wearing it. So I guess, lets not take it against them kung pinu push nila tayong mag rent if we dont have it, maybe its for our own good din. Ingat lang talaga and hoping sana na yung mga tour guides meron silang dalang first aid kit sa mga bangka nila and if they are aware na may poisonous corals sa area, , the officials should have always been ready for antidote.So sad lang that it happened to them. ReplyDeleteThanks for posting this. Oh my God. I was shaking while reading this because me and my friends just went to Coron for a short vacation two weeks ago. And I also heard about that poisonous jelly fish and Corals thingy. Oh my God! Mahilig pa naman ako sa dagat.

DeleteNever ever step on corals and wear aqua shoes at sa mga pupunta ng coron, do not fall for cheap boat tours. Better if you book with travel agencies at malinaw yung regulations, safety at insurance. sa experience namin last summer, we were offered cheap boat tours na kami lang but thats it wala insurance no food and your tourist guide is also your boatman. but we got the tour from a local agency doon lang sa bayan ng coron, we were joiners pero 6 lang kami sa boat, we were very well informed about the risk of stepping on corals and rocks na poisonous, we were equipped with safety gears, our tourist guide is very well trained, wont allow us to feed fishes, she even jumped to rescue a nearly drowning tourist from a different boat and the food served was really good. Babala lang.

ReplyDeleteHe probably stepped on a stonefish. Stonefish has spikes on its back and just lies flat on the seafloor, with corals. It is extremely deadly as the spikes release poison when pressed. Death is within minutes. I'm surprised we have it here. And yes, these resorts AND PROVINCES should be medically prepared!

DeleteTourists should be aware and respectful of their surroundings if visiting an unknown territory. Palawan is not Disneyland where everything is safe and at your convenience. To be fair this accident could have happened in any remote island in the world not just Palawan.

ReplyDeleteMasyadong maliit ang isla para magpatayo ng napakalaking ospital. Sa tingin ko ang kailangan ng probinsya ay emergency air lift. At sa mga ganitong case, nature ang kalaban natin, wala pa yatang antidote ito, prevention and extreme warnings ang solusyon muna siguro.

ReplyDeleteI've been to palawan 2 weeks ago.... nung nag Island hopping kami ng friends sinabi muna sa amin ng tour guide namin yung mga do's and dont's na hindi dapat galawin, bawal magpakain ng fish...and wear slippers or aqua shoes while swimming...and nakakatakot umapak sa mga coral vaka kung ano yung matapakan mo...
