Hi Fashion Pulis! I need your help. I want to share my experience with S&R Membership Shopping with your readers so that they, too, will be forewarned.
I have been trying to get in touch with S&R to relay my concern but can't get hold of anyone from there. I hope that through your blog, this will reach them. Here's my story:
I wasn’t feeling well and was having my recovery soup that time. Suddenly, I felt like there was a meat bone or something sharp in my mouth, I spat it out. To my surprise, it looked like some remnant from a sharp blade or meat cutter.
I asked our cook if she sliced the meat, she said she did not and added that it was the meat that I bought from S&R (which was already sliced) that she washed and put in the soup. We know our cook so well, she is neat and very good at food preparation. The sharp blade was right inside of the meat.
I really thank God it was me and not my kids who consumed the meat where the broken blade was. I just can’t imagine if it were them.
I hope next time, people at S&R food section would be very vigilant and careful in its food preparation because lives are at stake. If your meat cutter or blade is broken, please discard all the meats that were trimmed or cut from that troubled machine.
It is S&R’s responsibility to make sure that the safety of its customers should always be top concern and priority. What is a little loss of profit from discarded meat? What could have happened if those blades got stuck in someone's throat? The thought alone is scary.

At yeah, di na lang sinabing nag chicken soup siya or nagsopas sya, talagang recovery soup. o sya ati, mayaman ka na. at gusto mo siraan ang S&R. sa susunod, utusan ang chief driving specialist na samahan ang primary marketing agent para sa talipapa mamili. At least doon, walang quality control, pero mura naman. same lang sa S&R. at sa susunod puntahan ang S&R para magamit ang chief driving specialist ng Jaguar mo.

DeleteMedyo duda ako. Yung blade part ng cutting ng meat, since malinis naman hiwa, san masstuck yung blade. And looking at the tip, mukhang kitchen knife. Lahat ng raw meats use butchers knife or yung machine na manipis na cutter na nakatayo (yung panghiwa ng buto)

ReplyDeleteI think so too. Hindi na hinugasan kaya hindi na napansin ang foreign matter. Pero di mo pa rin ba mano-notice na may foreign matter while stirring/cooking the soup? Just asking...

ReplyDeletePag ako nagluluto kahit meat yan or gulay I make it a point to clean it thoroughly. I inspect each and everyone. I don't just run them with water. Yung meat kc may mga kadiri pa dyan like yung namuong blood at kung anik anik pa. I remove those.

- It is then your responsibility to make sure that the food you are about to consume is safe! Ang lakas ng loob sabihin yan habang niluto at naisubo mo na yung blade bago mo nakita. Parang dapat yung kusinera mo ang nireklamo mo kay FP hindi S&R, kaloka.

DeleteOn the contrary, I'd like to think the right photo shows a close-up perspective of the metal fragment. This happens in an industrial-scale cutting production phase. A matter of quality control mishap sa part ng supplier. Other cases include iron filings in your mascara, pag mapansin sa selected samples, for disposal entire batch. Even insects sa cosmetic packaging. Kulang din I guess sa proper equipment maintenance or hindi raised ng operator. Regarding the photo, baka remaining bag ito dahil di niya niluto lahat. Critical questioning lang for other possible perspective. -factory troubleshooter/engineer

Isip isip naman she took a picture after the incident and cooked only a portion of the meat. Kahit na hindi hinugasan nung maid yung meat kaya nasama yung meat cutter, kasalanan pa rin ng S&R because of the fact that napunta yun sa loob ng styro pack yun. Who buys meat in S&R anyway? Their frozen section smells mabaho their meat doesn't smell fresh and luma na yung meat.

ReplyDeleteThis is for real: i bought i bag of pechay at S&R... When I got home and wash it, it has small frog in between the leaves!!! I screamed my lungs out! Also it is already dead! That's why we disposed the veggies right away!

DeleteSa SnR kami monthly namimili ng meat kasi fresh talaga at mura pa. Almost 2 kgs. ang bawat pack, we always buy the same brand kasi yan ang local brand nila and dahi 3 lang kami, nahahati namin sa tatlong luto/ putahe ang bawat pack. Never naming na experienced ba may ibang object or may smell ang mga meat nila. Usually pa nga yung big cuts baked ang luto namin. Dapat talaga kahit san ka bumili, linising mabuti bago mo ilagay sa ref. Just sharing.
ReplyDeleteMy sentiments too. Walang bite sizes na meat sa S&R. And honestly, what I cannot comprehend is how the meat wasn't washed at all. Nakakaloka. Sinungaling.

2. if bago lutuin, sinabi niya nahugasan ng cook nila, so meaning dapat kung mahuhugasan itomakikita or mararamdaman naman yon,
3. medyo impossible ata na nasa loob mismo ng meat yung cutter? sa laki na yan, hindi nakita ng cook?
4. so kung lalambot ang meat (since soup siya, pinakuluan) lalambot yan, sinubo mo ng buo ung meat? hindi mo hiniwa muna? or hinati?
5. usally, pag ka ganyan, may metal detector ang malls/supermarkets para sa meats and etc. just to check kung may nasama nga doon.
Ang laki laki ng blade ha. Gaano kalaki ba yung karneng isusubo mo?

ReplyDeleteMrs., your 'SUPPOSEDLY METICULOUS COOK' should have seen such a significantly NOTICEABLE OBJECT, especially if he/she really COOKS CLEAN and APPROPRIATELY.
And please, as the PERSON EATING the dish, dont just stuff your mouth. Check what you're actually slicing, scooping and putting on your spoon.

ReplyDeleteDi na ko nagtaka. Nakabili kami minsan ng isang malaking jar ng pickles from S&R. Malayo pa expiration date pero sira na yung laman.
ReplyDeleteMe, too, nangyari din sakin yan. Overrated masyado ang S&R. Maganda quality ng ibang products depende sa branch. The one at The Fort is okay. But go to QC branch nila, ultimo aircon 2 years na ata di inaayos, saksakan ng init! Their goods, maloloka ka! Methinks dapat na sila magsara!

ReplyDeleteYikes talaga! But she said her cook is neat and very good in preparation how come the cook didn't see that sharp object even it was right inside the meat before cooking. Based on the photo that sharp thing is not too small not to notice, if you wash well the meat the cook can touch that thing, if your cook is really good. I'm sorry I doubt S&R will buy this complain, but hoping they will listen to you and do action if actually needed.

no way. i shopped there once when i got home kulang yung items. i called them immediately and since na sa receipt naman anong counter nagbayad they were able to verify right away. dun sa cashier mismo naiwan yung isang small bag and the three items were inside. nakuha ko naman agad. di ko lang napansin nung una cause i was with my 3 kids kaya magulo at nagmamadali na ko that time. my point is...... mabilis sila magrespond

Hinde hiniwa? At ikaw, sinubo mo lang lahat? I don't know which of you and your cook are smarter. We buy meat from S&R and we know that their meat aren't bite portions kaya kahit anong gawin, huhugasan at hihiwain mo pa din. Check nyo mga knives nyo, baka may bungi. Kaloka ka.
ReplyDeleteFire your cook. Regardless if there really was a blade or not kung marunong at malinis talaga yang cook mo dapat nahuli nya yang blade na yan. Malay mo baka yun cook mo pa talaga yun gusto ka saktan.
ReplyDeleteGanito dapat ang line of questioning or investigation. The reason why critical ang quality control & assurance ng meat supplier at s&r.. Locally, bumili ako ng premium ice cream brand on stick. The stick was defective and possible ka masubsob leading to wounded tongue/mouth. The company gave a 3-box consolation, instead. Ganun dapat! No customer blaming kht no casualty. That is kung careful ang brand sa equity nila.
ReplyDeleteAnalogy lang, what if you discovered metal fragments pizza niyo in between crust & toppings, when you complained sabihan kayo ng resto dpat chineck niyo closely before eating it ma'am/sir!? Remember, loose metal fragments can puncture meat due to pressure in bulk & during transfer. We don't check nmn each strand when thawing at home. I assume hndi ginrind ng cook ang meat for soup. Hence, this is POSSIBLE! -investigator
Dude seriously??? Are you even thinking? It doesn't take a genius to know that the letter sender is lying. Don't you think the butcher who sliced that meat didn't notice they're missing a significant amount of blade from their knife or whatever object they used? If her cook really washed the meat thoroughly, she would have seen it....then she can complain. If you're really an investigator, you might wanna go back to school.

DeleteButcher? That is if S&R's supplier does manual cutting. On the contrary, pwedeng sa industrial-scale automated dressing and cutting yan nangyari. The operator may have noticed it and raised the problem, but other desperate suppliers release the batch especially pag medium enterprise and kapit sa profit.
DeleteIf this metal fragment came from s&r's in-house repacking and as you said if napansin ng butching personnel ang defective cutter. Andun pa rin ang possibility na hindi dinispose ang batch.
It's a matter of robust process sa side ng s&r at supplier ang point above. Kaya nga merong Corrective/preventive actions ang ethical companies to address cases like this.
Laos na ang customer is always right. Andaming customers ngayon na manggagantso. Sa totoo lang.
DeleteAnon 550 at 630, sensible arguments niyo. Most probably may production, engineering at business background kayo. Unfortunately karamihan walang ganitong perspective kasi wala sila experience sa production floor operations at kung ano nangyayari on-the-ground. Baka di fully familiar ang S&R sa production process ng supplier nila kaya nag-iinvestigate pa. Tatagal yan pag di proactive ang S&R representative doing the complaint investigation. Posibleng di nila binabalikan ang letter sender kasi if they respond incorrectly, pwedeng ang impression ng sender is fault nila. Na in the first place dapat naman talaga tugunan for continuous improvement. -engineer din ako
