Double Standards

Celebrities sometimes get privileges from certain merchants who fancy them for their credibility, loyalty, and image. Thus, some companies feel it a privilege to send gifts to celebrities, especially if they are clients. However, such a relationship is not always reciprocated.

A leading company (LC) decided to send some of its products to TV Personality (TP). Other than having real good and high-end products, LC recognized TP as their valued client. When TP was contacted and informed that LC was going to send gifts, TP replied that she was excited. Thus, the messenger left the gift at LC's place and LC even sent TP the photographs of the said gift.

A few days later, TP replied that she did like the gift and she wanted exchange it, as it does not look good on her. LC wanted to please TP so LC sent several photos for TP to choose from. Finally, TP chose the gift she wanted which incidentally was the most expensive in the list.

After TP accpeted the gift that she asked for, LC requested if it were possible for TP to at least thank LC via TP’s social media account. To the shock of LC, TP abruptly replied that it was against her profession's ethics to post gifts.

What puzzled LC more was the sudden stern attitude of TP, which was the opposite of what she exuded when she was told she was going to receive an expensive gift. LC felt that TP took advantage of the situation. If that were really her stand, then TP should not have accepted the gift in the first place, and worse, she even asked for a replacement.

We try to be real nice and friendly to people, but sometimes they take advantage of that. – Layne Staley

In the first place, sila naman ang nagkusang ibigay. Gusto nila may kapalit?

    1. Tumfact! Pero yun na nga "delicadeza" na lang na kahit papano, simpleng thank you by posting it on IG...

  3. LC is wrong din. meron pala silang ulterior motive in giving the gift. may string attached pala. TP may have thought that it was purely a gesture of goodwill. Ayan napala nyo

    1. She could have given it back. Simple.

    2. That's a marketing strategy. Once an artist agreed to receive, she has to give credit. Professional ethics kasi yun. So kung alam ni TP na bawal siya magendorse, she shouldn't take the gift OR EVEN REPLACED IT WITH MORE EXPENSIVE ONE. Tawag dun, KAPAL MUKS TO THE HIGHEST LEVEL.

Or better yet upon knowing the favor sana sinauli nalng nya yun gift.

    4. TP is not gullible far from it. She knew from the start that there would be a give and take required with the gift pero dinaya nya ang LC.

    5. I don.t think so. Also, they should not have requested the posting, it should come voluntarily and freely from TP

Si K2, not her personality to be anti-social & ingrate. Pang masa appeal ika nga. Sino sa 2? I will bet on K1, goes to personality.

  11. eh may ulterior motive din naman pala. I wouldn't blame the personality, lalo na kung malaki pangalan niya. posting a photo of the gift is tantamount to endorsement whose worth might be much more than just a gift. maloko din itong produkto.

  18. Not sure about celeb mentality and culture but as a normal non celeb I have the following thoughts on this:
    1. Rude magpaexchange ng gift. Accept lang or reject. Unclassy move.
    2. Celeb is not obligated to show off a gift naman siguro. I myself think that people who show off gifts on social media are... tacky. Hehe.
    3. Im kinda familiar with businesses giving gifts to celebs hoping celebs will post online and publicly say thank you on social media. May unspoken rule ba on this? Pero kung ako si celeb, it would be to her benefit to maintain good relations. Sayang. Unless wapakels si Celeb sa brand in the first place. Edi wow.

    1. 1. True Indeed.
      2. Sa akin naman, since she accepted the gift and have it replaced (hello?), magpakita man lang sana siya ng sign of gratitude. Kung ayaw din nmn nya ipost might as well return the gift. Para sa akin medyo off kung sasabihin niya na "hindi ko nmn hiningi to, kayo ang nagbigay", kasi nagawa pa nya magpapalit.
      3. Post it! More gifts to come. Haha parehas kayo magbebenefit.

    2. I agree with Anon 1:57. TC shouldnt have accepted and exchanged the gift (I think there is an unspoken rule) when its against her policy. LC should be aware of the risks whenever they send gifts to celebs and should have made it clear to them that it is an ex-deal right from the get-go.

      Delete

      Delete
  19. My take on this: it's alright to get a replacement but getting the most expensive in lieu of, is a turn off.
Thanking the giver is a must but telling the receiver how they should be thanked is also a turn off.

    ReplyDelete
  20. LC should have made their intention clear in the first place. celebs can be shameless all they want.

    ReplyDelete
  21. She asked for a favor when she asked for an exchange and it only opened the door for LC to ask a favor too about posting it on social media. you scratch my back i'll scratch yours. Ganern.

    ReplyDelete
  22. The mere fact na pinapalitan ni TC ang gift at most expensive pa ang pinili nya e obligated na sya to return the favor. Ano yun tanggap na lang ng tanggap? Same ng ugali!!!

    ReplyDelete
  23. I think, LC's intention was to be promoted. That's all. We can compare this to the online shops because it's an advantage for them to be noticed by other people. These are the artists' post on instagram saying "thank you for my....." and so on. And I just knew, every post of those bloggers with such online shops promotion ay kailangan bayaran. That's what i've heard about the bloggers. Well i think it's different with TP.

  26. There's no such thing as free lunch, ika nga.

  32. TP never asked the gift. It was LC who voluntarily gave the because TP is a valued client, right? so by acknowledging it social media means she already endorsing the product, right?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Okay Cleaners ako ngayon. K bye!

    ReplyDelete
  34. gets ko si TP. sabi ni LC gift yun for being a good customer bat humihingi ng kapalit. pag nagpost sya sa IG magmukhang endorsement na yun which is bawal naman talaga unless may contract. saka sinabi naman nya na bawal mejo pangit lang yung humingi ng replacement. anyways row 4 aketchi. di ko sila knows. more clues sa comments pls...

    ReplyDelete
They should hire models/celebs to endorse them and stop expecting celebs to name-drop them if they give gifts.
