IKR! I have an uncle who has cancer and underwent a chemo too. He too gave up his chemo because of the pain that came with it. It's just too sad.

My patient before who had MND went to Switzerland.He was very intelligent man.First time I spoke with him when he was admitted in the ward he was so vocal that he won't wait for his end and that he wanted to die with dignity.After few weeks he was all over the news and his last photo raising "glass of wine"they call it assisted death.I work in a pallative care so I know how it feels.When my dad was diagnosed of CA end stage.Mom won't give up but I knew that my father had enough.Tiring treatment and so much pain I felt so bad for my father he did not get the best treatment we usually give for our pallative patients.My family cannot understand me at first when I told them that It is a blessing if dad will go quickly so he will be in peace and not be in pain anymore.Dad won't get any better and I don't want to see him lying in bed in pain for another one day or one week.Dad died in his sleep after I give him his dose of pain killer.My sister even doubt me at first for overdosing dad.I did not but I reassured dad and told him just to go to sleep and not to wake up again...What we need in PI is good Hospice care for CA patients.I feel so bad for the poor who got no means for proper treatment.Anyhow IMHO patients who has capacity should be given a choice if they want assisted death..I wish it will be legalised..
I think no need for mercy killing. If he wishes to end his agony they just have to stop all the medications and the chemotherapy, Ang pangit kasi pag mercy killing parang sindya na iend ang life nya. Hi Anon 3:03. I'm a nurse here in the U.S. and technically speaking, your comment is the legal way of doing it. It's called passive euthanasia. It includes the cessation of treatment and medications to prolong life. It is very unfortunate, especially in the pedia department. Some parents of infants who were born w/ congenital defects (treatable pero they'll never live a normal, healthy life) opt to have this taken care of ASAP. The doctor is not allowed to do active euthanasia, so the feeding, nasogastric, and other tubes are disconnected. Very sad to say but, the infant is just left to wither and die (hunger, infection, etc.).

I went through surgery, chemotherapy, and then radiation almost all the months of last year. While I am done with the treatments I am still not cancer free. And yes, it is the most difficult thing anybody can ever experience--the pain is indescribable because it is different after each cycle. I am sorry for Jam. Please hold on to hope, pray to the Holy Spirit to be with you when you are confounded. Find that place in your heart and mind and truly commune with God, and your burden will become light. God's mercy is so much greater than any pain or anguish this world can give. Trust in His love and mercy. You will be in my prayers.
Instead of asking for euthanasia request the Lord to strengthen you to carry out His will. God is aware of whats going on with our life, He knows the exact no. of our hair strands, let His will be done not ours.

I know someone na na-comatose and naka-depend na lang talaga sa respirator. There's no mercy killing sa Pinas, but her parents were given the option to pull the plug by themselves dahil di pwede ang doctors gumawa.

It's because the family has to make that decision as the peson is mentally incapacipated if there is no next ok kin it goes to the state or the law has to take care of it. The doctor can tell the family about the prognosis and outcomes , it is his duty to inform and educate them about their options. So if that person is comatose, how's his quality of life?
I know the feeling of Jam and also his relatives. Been through the same exact position with his bro. I suggest to have him on pain management. If nababasa nyo to, kumuha kayo ng pain specialist doctors. They know what to give and what dosage he can have for pain. Atleast ease the pain he's feeling. My kuya died of cancer. Been in pain for so many months. Wanted euthanasia as well.. But we opted for a pain management team. And it had lessen my kuya's pain.

With Mirriam Defensor-Santiago I think that's one of the best option they could consider since chemo is so expensive din. Sa states pa galing yung gamot pero diba why not give it a try? Magkakaiba ang cancer. Wag nyong ikumpara yung kay Jam at kay Miriam kasi yung kay Miriam hindi kumakalat at naharang ang pagdami dahil naagapan ng specialized na gamot. Si Jam dumaan na sa chemotherapy, yun hindi targeted sa cancer cells ang treatment kaya buong katawan nya apektado, kaya madali syang nanghina.

Ipagdasal nyo na lang na sana tama ang desisyon na gagawin ng family nya sa kanya, whether sundin yung hiling nya na mercy killing o lumaban para sa kanya kahit sobrang nahihirapan na sya.
I was never a fan of this Youtube sensation couple but I could tell that the family is really hurting and that this was not just a PR stint. I do think that posting the text message online was uncalled for, but the brother must really be at a loss. Sobrang naguguluhan at nasasaktan siguro siya na wala siyang maisip gawin kundi humingi ng suporta sa tao. Kahit sinong hindi mapakali baka hindi na maisip ang sensitivity ng issue. Try to understand na lang and offer your well wishes instead of calling him out.

Sa mga nag question kung bakit gusto ni Jam ng iphone despite his illness, divertion na lang nya yun. lahat naman tayo pag may nararamdaman kahit simple heartbreak lang naghahanap tayo ng something thay will make us smile. and why judge him, may nai contribute ba kayo for his iphone? kung si mich ay nagpa party, okay yun kasi at least may napaglilibangan sya. mas mahirap kung si Jam lang ang focus nya because even if she stay beside him 24/7 wala din naman sya magagawa to heal him. the logic is, let say na laid off ang partner mo, dapat ba mag resign ka na din sa work pra pareho kayong down. syempre may mga officemates ka din na dapat samahan. I hope maging open minded lahat tayo and hindi judgemental. nung bata ako my Mom would always remind me that if I have nothing good to say, dont speak at all. lalo na kung hindi naman kayo nakakatulong. jam, my prayers are with you and your family.

DeleteI think, sometimes it's best to give them what they wish for. We have no idea what pain they are experiencing, how badly it hurts them. I just hope and pray that they will do the right thing.
I think it would be selfish to prolong the life of someone who so desperately wants to move on. I cannot even begin to imagine the pain he must be in, both physically and psychologically.

May mga belief kasi na hindi acceptable sa relihiyon ang euthanasia to the point na akin to the punishment of suicide na straight to hell. DeleteMy patient before who had MND went to Switzerland.He was very intelligent man.First time I spoke with him when he was admitted in the ward he was so vocal that he won't wait for his end and that he wanted to die with dignity.After few weeks he was all over the news and his last photo raising "glass of wine"they call it assisted death.I work in a pallative care so I know how it feels.When my dad was diagnosed of CA end stage.Mom won't give up but I knew that my father had enough.Tiring treatment and so much pain I felt so bad for my father he did not get the best treatment we usually give for our pallative patients.My family cannot understand me at first when I told them that It is a blessing if dad will go quickly so he will be in peace and not be in pain anymore.Dad won't get any better and I don't want to see him lying in bed in pain for another one day or one week.Dad died in his sleep after I give him his dose of pain killer.My sister even doubt me at first for overdosing dad.I did not but I reassured dad and told him just to go to sleep and not to wake up again...What we need in PI is good Hospice care for CA patients.I feel so bad for the poor who got no means for proper treatment.Anyhow IMHO patients who has capacity should be given a choice if they want assisted death..I wish it will be legalised..

It includes the cessation of treatment and medications to prolong life. It is very unfortunate, especially in the pedia department. Some parents of infants who were born w/ congenital defects (treatable pero they'll never live a normal, healthy life) opt to have this taken care of ASAP. The doctor is not allowed to do active euthanasia, so the feeding, nasogastric, and other tubes are disconnected. Very sad to say but, the infant is just left to wither and die (hunger, infection, etc.).

DeleteI went through surgery, chemotherapy, and then radiation almost all the months of last year. While I am done with the treatments I am still not cancer free. And yes, it is the most difficult thing anybody can ever experience--the pain is indescribable because it is different after each cycle. I am sorry for Jam. Please hold on to hope, pray to the Holy Spirit to be with you when you are confounded. Find that place in your heart and mind and truly commune with God, and your burden will become light. God's mercy is so much greater than any pain or anguish this world can give. Trust in His love and mercy. You will be in my prayers.

ReplyDeleteI know someone na na-comatose and naka-depend na lang talaga sa respirator. There's no mercy killing sa Pinas, but her parents were given the option to pull the plug by themselves dahil di pwede ang doctors gumawa.
ReplyDeletehoney its not up to the doctor and it's never up to the octor . It's because the family has to make that decision as the peson is mentally incapacipated if there is no next ok kin it goes to the state or the law has to take care of it. The doctor can tell the family about the prognosis and outcomes , it is his duty to inform and educate them about their options. So if that person is comatose, how's his quality of life?

ReplyDeleteI know the feeling of Jam and also his relatives. Been through the same exact position with his bro. I suggest to have him on pain management. If nababasa nyo to, kumuha kayo ng pain specialist doctors. They know what to give and what dosage he can have for pain. Atleast ease the pain he's feeling. My kuya died of cancer. Been in pain for so many months. Wanted euthanasia as well.. But we opted for a pain management team. And it had lessen my kuya's pain.

With Mirriam Defensor-Santiago I think that's one of the best option they could consider since chemo is so expensive din. Sa states pa galing yung gamot pero diba why not give it a try? Prayers lang kaya ng public and sana nga gumaling sya at wag sumuko

DeleteMagkakaiba ang cancer. Wag nyong ikumpara yung kay Jam at kay Miriam kasi yung kay Miriam hindi kumakalat at naharang ang pagdami dahil naagapan ng specialized na gamot. Si Jam dumaan na sa chemotherapy, yun hindi targeted sa cancer cells ang treatment kaya buong katawan nya apektado, kaya madali syang nanghina.

Ipagdasal nyo na lang na sana tama ang desisyon na gagawin ng family nya sa kanya, whether sundin yung hiling nya na mercy killing o lumaban para sa kanya kahit sobrang nahihirapan na sya.
I was never a fan of this Youtube sensation couple but I could tell that the family is really hurting and that this was not just a PR stint. I do think that posting the text message online was uncalled for, but the brother must really be at a loss. Sobrang naguguluhan at nasasaktan siguro siya na wala siyang maisip gawin kundi humingi ng suporta sa tao. Kahit sinong hindi mapakali baka hindi na maisip ang sensitivity ng issue. Try to understand na lang and offer your well wishes instead of calling him out.

Sa mga nag question kung bakit gusto ni Jam ng iphone despite his illness, divertion na lang nya yun. lahat naman tayo pag may nararamdaman kahit simple heartbreak lang naghahanap tayo ng something thay will make us smile. and why judge him, may nai contribute ba kayo for his iphone? kung si mich ay nagpa party, okay yun kasi at least may napaglilibangan sya. mas mahirap kung si Jam lang ang focus nya because even if she stay beside him 24/7 wala din naman sya magagawa to heal him. the logic is, let say na laid off ang partner mo, dapat ba mag resign ka na din sa work pra pareho kayong down. syempre may mga officemates ka din na dapat samahan.
