Letter from a Reader: Lost and Found and Kept

Dear Fashion Pulis,

I am an avid follower of your blog, and I want to share with your readers my mindboggling experience with a shameless fast food crew. 

Last August 18 (Saturday), I did an online reservation at Sureseats.com for three (3) tickets for a movie that me and my two (2) friends C1 and C2, planned to watch the following day, August 19 (Sunday) for a 5:10pm screening time at Greenbelt 3 cinema. As a policy, I had to screenshot the confirmation number to be presented to the ticket station and that the tickets have to be paid 45 minutes before the screening time or it would be automatically cancelled. 

Sunday, around 4pm, C1 and I were already at Greenbelt and bought the 3 movie tickets. I didn’t bring my bag so I asked C1 to keep the tickets since my pocket was already full. Since C2 had not arrived yet, C1 and I decided to have a snack at a popular Fast food Restaurant FR while waiting for her. After eating, we headed back to the cinema to check if C2 was already there, as I asked C1 to bring out the tickets. She was shocked to find out that the tickets were missing! 

After a while, C1 recalled what happened earlier at FR. He said that while we were lining up to order our food, he remembered reaching out for his cellphone inside his pocket, then noticed a male FR Crew FC passed by and picked up something beside him (C1). This C1 just ignored - but which he belatedly realized and was 100% sure that what FC picked up were our missing tickets!

Quickly, he headed back to FR to look for that FC while I remained near the cinema to wait for C2, but already stressed as the movie was about to start in minutes. After 5 minutes, C1 messaged me saying that when he arrived at FR, he didn’t immediately see FC and that it was a female crew who attended to him whom he reported the incident to. He inquired if the tickets could have been handed to her or their manager (read: lost and found).

The female crew said that she didn’t know a thing about the tickets, she also said there were already some crew members who finished their shift and left. It was at this point that C1 saw FC and asked him about the tickets. Feigning innocence, FC said that he thought it was nothing and that he threw the tickets to the trash bin.

C1 countered that they could go and search for it at the trash - which they did - but oddly, no tickets were found. Then the manager came and upon being told of the incident, remarked (verbatim), “ Ganun po talaga dito, pag may nakakalat sa sahig pinupulot at tinatapon.”  Really? What kind of manager would say that unused movie tickets found are to be trashed is beyond me.

Pressed for time and realizing the futility of it all, C1 told me to just proceed to the ticket station to ask what can be done about the problem. When I went to the station and told the staff about our missing tickets, I was shocked when they told me that there were two (2) guys who went earlier to ask  for a refund of the tickets! When the staff asked them for a confirmation number (for sureseats.com online booking), the guys failed to present anything and reasoned out that their friend who had the number already left. At this point, the staff thought that the guys may have decided to watch the movie instead, thus she asked the guard to go inside and checked if our seat numbers I-12,13,14 were occupied. The guys were still lucky that they did not watch, or what a scene it would have been!

Finally, after all the anxiety that we went through, my friends and I were finally able to watch the movie! After watching, we would have wanted to go back to FR to confront FC, but it was already late in the evening. When I got home, I got online and went to FR’s website and emailed them about the incident. Luckily, they replied quickly and said that they are going to conduct an investigation and would revert back to me. 

Early this afternoon, I got a call from a representative of FR to apologize for the incident and likewise informed me that the matter was already relayed to FC's employment agency for appropriate action to be taken thereof. 

As an afterthought, it deeply saddens me that this thing happened, and FC had to lie and take interest on the tickets as to refund them. It was obvious that FC asked his fellow FCs to refund the tickets for him and then perhaps would divide the loot among themselves..tsk tsk tsk. Was that what their training made of them?

It just dawned on me that what happened to us was not an isolated case – that this maybe a common practice to some FCs. What a way to repay their loyal customer.

The movie tickets worth Php750 wouldn’t have hurt so bad, but what if it were the more pricey stuff that their customers left, like gadgets – or cash? Will these FCs go for the Kill?

To all FC’s and the like, always keep in mind – Finders are not Keepers. Your customers are to be served, not robbed.

    2. I think the FR here is the same FR na nasa tapat ng condo namin. I normally eat breakfast there. One time I left my phone tapos yung crew tumakbo pa para ibalik sakin. Anyway. Ewan ha. Pero ang dapat sisihin dito ay yung friend mo na mej burara

    3. Not to be nega madlang pipol but seriously isa yan sa mga reason kung bakit nakakaturn off tumira sa Pinas. Dito sa Tate and SG where i used to live, during my first few years, still nashoshock ako pag me nag tuturn in ng wallet at cellphone sa counter ng hotel where i used to work.

      One time i left my wallet in a grocery store at naalala ko lang after a few hours at when i came back to the same place, nandun tinago ng cashier. Parang nagulat ako maybe di ako sanay sa kultura natin.

      Tayo kasi finders keepers ang peg!

    4. Chillax, di ba inamin na nga ng crew na siya ang nakapulot? That's the thing, he knew na yung napulot nya was cashable that's why he kept it to himself. Comprehension pls. I'm sure kung sa inyo nangyari yun, you would comment differently.

    11. 12:52 ganyan din naramdaman k nung naiwan ng asawa k ang sukli nya na 400 + dirhams sa supermarket. Sabi k hnd m na mkikita un kc nga malking halaga. Bkit kc nakikipagchismisan k habng nagbbyad sb k p sknya. Pero nagbaka sakali sya n viola ung sukli nya nakaplastic and stapler pa at may nakalagy pa na description ng customer.     13. 2.35 the tickets were lost by the owner and found by the crew, not stolen. Crew might have lied or maybe he was telling the truth and someone else found them and cashed them in but that doesn't mean he/she stole them. Some responsibility must lie on the owners for not looking after their property in the first place.

    14. Pilipino ako na nandito sa HK nakatira and I don't have that "finders keepers" attitude. May napulot akong phone sa taxi, I kept it on to wait for the owner to come and claim it. Nakakatuwa na sobrang pasasalamat nya.

    3. ang punto dito ay yung l na pagkuha ng tickets at pagsabing tinapon ito when in fact ay pina-refund niya sa kanyang mga kaibigan. sa trabaho nila na service ang ibinebenta, mahalaga ang honesty and integrity. putting the tickets in the table or kung accidentally nahulog man ito is beside the point. the fact na pinulot ito ng crew at willfully ay hindi isinoli para i-encash, yung ang issue.

    4. Inamin naman niya na napulot daw niya. But ang problem is the crew lied kasi when they checked with the ticket counter, someone tried to refund the tickets.... so hindi talaga itinapon.

    4. Wow, the ticket lost by her friend is irrelevant here as the crew did admit he took it and throw it in the trash bin. What the issue here is the fact that they lied and took time to refund them for gains. Duh.

For example sa mga rape victims yung iba sinasabi pa na kesyo naka P*** short daw at halos labas ang kaluluwa kaya na ra rape. Kaya yang masasamang loob na iyan malalakas ang loob gumawa ng kaga***an dahil sa mga ganyang klase ng tao.

    2. Me myself may account dyan sa sureseats kaya alam ko pag nawala ang ticket basta naka book online hindi ma i re-refund talaga at magagamit ng makakapulot and yes makakakuha sila ulit ng ticket

  5. Ay nakakatakot na tuloy Sa fast food. Lahat sila ganyan. Me ma iwan ka Lang tayo na nila, baka dahil kulang sweldo nila kaya nag resort Sa ganun means. But it doesn't justify taking advantage.

      Yes you may still cancel online-purchased tickets but you must do so at least ONE HOUR before screening time. The amount will be credited back to your account.

      No refund talaga pero ma credit back sa account once na pina cancel mo. Hindi nga din talaga mapapakinabangan ng naka pulot yung ticket no?. Ganyan pala pag online booking bongga pala. maka gawa nga ng account dyan kahit na may charge pa na 20pesos keribels na at least mahulog at madampot ng iba hindi magagamit..

  7. You're so full of yourself. Do you expect the crew, who are busy serving food and maintaining the place, to inspect every piece of paper they see? Your irresponsibility isn't their sense of urgency. Get over yourself. The world could use a break from shallow issues like this.

If the crew didn't admit picking it up then you're comment applies here, because they can't point fingers when they don't have proof who really picked it up. But the crew did lie. The tickets were attempted to be refunded. End of the story. I wonder if Anon 12.32 will pick up something and owned it if he got the chance? LOL pathetic.

It seems that you didn't read the entire story.Somebody went back and tried to refund it in cash.So that crew was able to see that it was really a ticket.This is a very shallow matter for some but it's about honesty and integrity,sayang dami ko pa naman nabasa about poor people returning huge amount of money to the owner sa pilipinas

  12. Meron akong naiwan na mas mahal na gamit sa fastfood pero pag balik ko dun, nakuha ko pa rin galing sa guard. Sabi ng guard, mabuti na lang service crew yung nakakuha kaya binigay sa guard para mabalikan ng may ari.

  13. Hmmmm..... Oo kasalanan ng friend nya nalaglag ang tickets pero tama ba ang ginawa ng crew? Kung sa inyo nangyari yan ok lang din ba ang ginawa ng service crew? or Ugali nyo din siguro na pag may nakuha kayo na gamit ng iba itatago nyo din. The tickets not the issue here anymore but the attitude of that shameless service crew. kaya di na ako kumakain sa mga fast food chain dahil super bagal na nga ang service tapos ganyan pa mga crew.

    1. What's new? Alam mo naman ang mga pinoy mas pumapanig sila sa mga MAGNANAKAW kesa sa mga taong Nawalan/nanakawan. Tignan mo ang bansa natin mga namumuno puro MAGNANAKAW dahil binoto ng mga taong ganyan na pagiisip okay lang sa knila ang manakawan!

Most of them are honest and hard working people who are often working for pittance. Put yourself in their place and see how you would feel if people treat you like second class citizen and worst, as possible thief. Shame on you.

    4. Filipinos are known to be magnanakaw! Trust me they are... Ngayon nakatira ako sa china pero 100% ako na safe kami sa gamit at safety namin, alam niyo Kung bakit? They are afraid of their government and their leaders! Hanggang ngayon confident kami na hindi naka lock yung mga gamit namin at pwede namin iwan kahit saan kahit babalik ka more than 24 hours or 1 week Kung pano mu iniwan hindi Nila gagalawin... Been to a lot of cities and provinces here...

I wonder din kung yung mga nagcomment dito na sinisisi yung friend na nakawala at lihis sa issue ng pagiging greedy ng FC e malamang gawain din nila na makapulot at mang-angkin. You're right, the missing ticket is not the issue but the liar crew. At FYI, CREW as we are pertaining to the one mentioned here. Hindi nilalahat.

    8. Ano ka ba 1:14 wala naman pagaalipustang ginagawa sa lahat ng service crew. Ang tinutukoy lang nila is yung crew mismo dun sa sa FR, ikaw ang nanglalahat. Wag kasi masyadong pavictim, mali na nga eh tapos gagawan ng rason na kesyo kawawa naman sila para lang gawing tama yung ginawang mali. Ang kanila lang naman is wag kunsintihin yung ganung ugali kahit na ano pang trabaho yan. Kaya wala nangyayari at dumadami ang mga kawatan kasi kinukunsinti.

  14. First of all, hula nyo lang na may "pumulot" nung ticket at hindi kayo sure. Huwag mag bibintang kung walang proof. Malay nyo, sa ibang lugar nawala yung ticket. Second, kung ang isang bagay ay nawala, pasalamat nalang kayo kung may mag babalik nun. Kung hindi na bumalik, then lesson learned. Ang moral nitong story? Iingatan ang mga gamit. Pati ba naman ibang tao gusto nyo pang ibabysit kayo.

  19. Oo may Mali ang friend humahawak ng ticket dahil HINDE nag iingat given na yun. Yung "nakapulot" ng ticket Nila tapos they try to refund it ! Ibang usapan na yun. Pag nanakaw na yun, Mali yun! Pag nakapulot at alam no hinde sayo? Ano gagawin mo? Edi ibalik ang ticket sa counter diba? Pero hinde nila ginawa! Tapos nag sinungaling pa sila. Tama ba yun?

    1. Ito ang may sense na comment. Yung iba kuda nalang ng kuda hindi muna nag iisip. Attitude na ng crew ang pinaguusapan dito given na shunga ang naka laglag ng ticket dapat yang naka pulot i report sa manager.

  21. This sender has a "first world" problem, too shallow. Tickets ang nawala mo, a piece of paper, natural kun nalaglag mo yan, itatapon lang yan ryt away w/o inspecting.. not unless its a check. Wag isisi ang kaburaraan ng friend mo, u r in 3rd world country honey, wag ka painosente, u shld be taking care of your things. The world is not safe anymore, dapat responsable ka rin.

If u haven't read the story clearly, let me explain to u fully that the letter sender is not only annoyed because their tickets gone missing but more on the fact that people nowadays will go beyond just to get money out of dishonest acts! I don't understand why some of our kababayans like u are so harsh with their comments about certain issues w/o understanding the context of the story first. Always quick to judge; always jumps into conclusion. Its only fair to always hear both sides of the story before such comments. Reading comments here gives me nothing but culture shock of my own countr. Haven't been back home for so many years and it makes me realize how Filipinos have changed so much ever since social media was on its full force.

  23. I think what irked her was they tried to get a refund for the tickets. It is one thing if you say you throw them out but another thing if you keep them and try to get the money out of it.

    It could also be that the crew really threw them but someone must have taken it out of the trash. Who knows. Just saying.

First, it is not a mistake on the part of the victim (as she may said it) we, as a person sometimes has this clumsiness in our part, we are human we commit mistakes while the fastfood server was tempt to do something bad because there is a situation that she/he can't resist which is but the letter sender said did not confirm any hideous crime until any investigation occur.

The last time I checked, hindi Pulis si FP :) Fashion Pulis lang sya ;) Or kaya kumuha siya ng lawyer para alam kung ano ang nakasaad sa batas tungkol sa nawalan/nakapulot ng valuable item. Pareho naman kasi kayong may kasalanan. Yung nakawala ng ticket, burara. Yung nakapulot sinungaling.

Had the crew thrown the ticket away I don't think there'd be an issue, but the crew didn't and asked someone to cash it in.

Kaya nga abot abot na lang ang papuri natin sa mga taxi drivers natin na nagsasauli ng malalaking halaga na naiiwan ng mga pasahero nila. Pang-araw araw na sentimyento na natin ang ibinahagi ng letter sender. At kadalasan, kapag nagsalita ka ng kung ano ang tama at dapat, ikaw pa ang mali. Ikaw pa ang self-righteous. I understand the frustration and disappointment of the one who wrote the letter. It's not about the money.   51. Naka-encounter na rin ako ng ganyan, hindi ako binigyan ng receipt ng cashier & nung binilang ko na yung sukli sakin kulang ng 100 pesos! Sinabi pa sakin ng manager na lumabas ata kami ng kasama ko at ginastos na yung 100! Sabi ko nga sa kanya eh di i-check nyo sa CCTV! Bandang huli nakita nila na iniipit nung kahera yung pera sa singit ng machine! Hindi lang 100 kundi 500 pesos pa ang inipit nya! After a few days, pagbalik namin, witit na yung kahera, sinibak siguro...

  52. It was very unfortunate that this happened to you. Parang nagiging instinct ng tao na kapag may napulot, inaangkin na nila. Kaya kahanga-hanga yung mga nababalita na nagsosoli ng napulot na wallet/bag.

    Un lang, dont generalize na they got it from training. Most FC are contractual employees, 5months per contract. Mas matagal ang years spent outside of the establishment, kaya minsan this is based on character na.

  55. careful or careless, the friend should not be blamed. it's what the FC did that was not right. kaya nga my mga honest nman na taxi driver who would return large amount of money left by a passenger. 750peso-movie ticket is not a small amount. sino naman may gusto mawalan? honesty is what FC doesn't have. nde po masaya sa pakiramdam ung may mga kapwa ka na imbes na tulungan ka na lang, iisahan ka pa.

  57. I remember, naiwan din namin sa isang FR ung Avent 9oz bottle ng baby ko. Tapos mga minutes lang bumalik kami agad to claim it. Sabi ba naman sa amin, tinapon na daw sa trash. inis na inis ung husband ko nun. kasi obvious na may naiwan na gamit sa store mo, bakit mo itatapon?
