The recent brouhaha over the Philippine Movie Press Club's (PMPC) selection process came to fore as showbiz columnist Jobert Sucaldito went to air his grave sentiments over his ward's George Estregan Jr's not winning the Best Actor award for "Boy Golden" that went to Vice Ganda instead for Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy .
The controversy over the hotly contested award which had Joel Torre frontlining it for the movie "On the Job" had stirred mixed emotions from the netizens in various social media forums.
Jobert raised his grievances as Estregan's publicist who lobbied for the actor hoping he would clinch the Best Actor award.
On the other hand, some observers say that the award should have been handed to Joel Torre for his performance in "On the Job" that won two (2) awards in South Korea's Puchon International Fantastic Film Fest.
But some showbiz pundits contend that it was not fair to say that Joel Torre's Best Actor win for "On the Job" abroad must be a deciding factor for a PMPC award. They said that winning awards abroad should not be the standard to be applied locally as different criteria are set for each awards body.
Saying that taste is relative, some people say that it is best for all concerned to just accept and respect the official choice of PMPC (on Vice Ganda as Best Actor ), and those of other award-giving bodies' for that matter.

ReplyDeleteKung papanoorin yung movie ni joel torre na on the job at yung movie ni vice na gbbt ay makikita naman who deserves the award. The proof is in the pudding ika nga. Joel torre deserves the award kasi milya milya ang depth ng performance niya compared to vice's maski na comedy ang movie ni vice.

Deletewhy is there even a need to lobby? the artist should be given an award base on merits and not on lobbying..this only goes to show that PMPC or perhaps other even the other award giving bodies are not acting independently and INTELLIGENTLY.palakasan and pera-pera system pala pinapairal..this is an insult not only to the artists but to the industry as a whole., and i bet this isn't the first time.

ReplyDeleteThis is one of the reasons why the Philippines can't elevate itself from a 3rd world status. Corruption is still pretty much present, whether it's in government or in showbiz. If these are the types of lessons that young generations are learning, that it's acceptable to cheat, steal and lie, it's no wonder us Filipino people can't get ourselves out of poverty. These type of actions should be reprimanded or else it'll will continue to happen.

ReplyDeleteNfernes kay Roderick Paulate, mas magaling siya sa mga gay character and sa mga drama movies niya, pero kung siya ang mananalo as best actor on any movies na ginawa, di ako magtataka....pero si ViceG. Iisa lang ang acting na kaya niyang gawin, walang pagbabago. Mapanood mo isang movie niya, iisa lang ang style.

ReplyDeleteI haven't watched Golden Boy but I was able to watch On the JOB and GBBT and for me, Joel Torre did a great job in OTJ. Para sa akin he deserves the Best Actor Award.

ReplyDeletehindi naman talaga mgaling si Vice e. I've watched the movies na kasali sa PMPC pra talga magkaalaman kung sino sa knila ang magaling. So-so lang ang acting ni vice.. talagang magiging ok siya sa scene na babae or bading.. e kasi nga bading talaga siya. ung acting nga niya dun as Girl.. parang waley pagkakaiba.. Bading na bading pa din. Mas gugustuhin ko pa yong mga bading na magaling magpatawa kahit walang taong nilalait.. hindi ako against sa mga bading kasi I have barkada ang kapatid ng asawa ko bading.. nkakatuwa nga silang kasama e.. basta hindi ko lang feel umarte si vice.. even his jokes aren't funny.. kailangan pa niya manlait para lang matawa ang mga tao.. there are more deseving than him..
