Bloggers Will Not Be Invited to New York Fashion Week

Bloggers will no longer be included in the New York Fashion Week guest list, making way for industry professionals.

The Wall Steet Journal recently reported that IMG Fashion, which runs Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, will be cutting their media invites by 20% this February. Inviting only guests that are of "value to the designers" by tightening their accreditation guidelines - in other words, no bloggers will be on the guest list.

Back in September, Fern Mallis, creator of New York Fashion Week and owner of IMG Fashion said that it's time to become more exclusive. Bloggers were occupying spaces in the shows audiences that were designed for buyers - and this according to Fern must change. Catherine Bennett, Senior Vice President of IMG Fashion recently stated "It was becoming a zoo! What used to be a platform for established designers to debut their collections to select media and buyers has developed into a cluttered, often cost-prohibitive and exhausting period for our industry to effectively do business."

Some designers have already complained about Fashion Week being too chaotic and no longer as exclusive as it used to be. Oscar de la Renta, who has stopped putting on larger shows, had a very intimate 350 guest list this September to show his spring-summer collection. The designer opted for a more intimate presentation inviting only the fashion elite.

    1. Dapat lang yan. Madalas kasi sa mga bloggers na ito nakafocus ang article nila ON THEM BEING THERE hindi ung pagcover mismo ng event... besides sinonv bibili kung ganon?

  2. oh no! say it ain't so! the party's over, then? hehehe. katuwa naman si bryanboy sa pic, early bird!

  3. Yes. Please take the social climbers/freebie hoarders off your list. Without the freebies and connections, I doubt most of these bloggers can really afford designer items.

  5. Goodbye sa mga know-it-all kuno na mga blagger n mga 'to. Ni hindi nga afford (karamihan sa kanila) ang mga nirarampa, tapos un pa ang nasa front row. Dios Mio.

  7. Its about time! Buti naman na realize na nila. Thank goodness! This is a move for the better. There is really a need to professionalize. Besides, those who aren't genuinely qualified not only get too much freebies but they also abuse the system.

  12. Grabehan naman kasi kung maka- "I'm important, my critique is important" tong mga blogger. Imbes nga naman ang mga elite na gustong bumili sa mga creations ng mga designer, eto't mga freeloader/pa-expert na bloggers ang nagsusumiksik maka-frontrow. Right move lang yan, if ever na gusto nilang manood, magtiis sila sa 3rd or whatever row man yan. Da vah?!

    1. wrong. comments are not the sole basis for reader count. I'm not a fan of them both, pero what I heard from my friends who are based overseas - their websites/blogs are getting a lot of hits.

    2. hindi rin teh. their blogs are not famous here sa PH pero they are big overseas

akala ko ba lumipat ng agency si bryanboy? isn't he's with IMG now and his agent is the same agent as gisele and kate moss? IMG owns most of fashion events in the world INCLUDING fashion week!

  19. haha...it's about time. these fashion bloggers just want freebies anyway.

  21. I'm not sure if this will be an "absolute rule". Some really big bloggers, like Bryanboy (even if I hate him and his social climbing fakeness), Garance Doré, Kayture, etc. are no longer considered as "just bloggers". They are now also part of that elite circle IMHO, and I think they might still get invited. But let's see once FW comes.

    1. It's not about being part of the elite circle that matters this time, it's the selling part. Though bloggers are important in providing honest feedback and opinions. There are still lots of other potential customers that have higher chances of actually buying some of the designer clothes hours directly after a fashion show (most especially since most pieces are limited). In a businessman's perception, it's convenient, and gives priority to their target market which is more important.

  22. But isn't BB managed by IMG? So I guess he's an exception?

  23. if BB will still get invitations then i think he already made it.
