Gigi Hadid had a bumpy start to her summer vacation.
The supermodel was embarking on a girls' trip to the Cayman Islands on July 10 when she was arrested at Owen Roberts International Airport, a spokesperson for Cayman Islands' Customs & Border Control confirmed to NBC News.
Shortly after Hadid and her pal arrived via a private plane, custom officials searched their luggage and allegedly found "a small amount of marijuana," per the spokesperson.
According to local outlet Cayman Marl Road, Hadid and her friend were then arrested on "suspicion Importation of Ganja and Importation of Utensils used for the consumption of ganja," adding that they were then taken to the Prisoner Detention Center, where they were released on bail.
Two days later, on July 12, Hadid and her pal were formally charged during a court appearance, where they pleaded guilty and were both fined $1,000, the Border Control spokesperson confirmed.
"Gigi was traveling with marijuana purchased legally in NYC with a medical license," her rep tells E! News. "It has also been legal for medical use in Grand Cayman since 2017. Her record remains clear and she enjoyed the rest of her time on the island."
E! News has reached out to authorities and has not heard back.
Indeed, it appears Hadid is trying to move on after the legal matter, even posting photos from her tropical getaway on social media.
In fact, the 28-year-old—who is mom to her and ex Zayn Malik's 2-year-old daughter Khai—debuted a massive dragon tattoo on her upper thigh in vacation photos posted to Instagram July 14, two days after her court appearance.
In another Instagram post, Hadid could be seen enjoying her time in the water along with a pool toy.
"What designer makes this noodle?" she playfully captioned the photo. "Wrong answers only."

Need to Persevere

Whenever a celebrity decides to navigate his/her own path that challenges the setup fans have been used to, expect a barrage of negativity to be hurled at the said personality. Some fans refuse to be open-minded and thus box themselves into throwing negative comments. Nonetheless, a personality who has decided to find another path will not let such to get in the way.The decision to traverse another road comes with the motivation to prove detractors wrong. Hence, an image that one is doing better must be kept up to show that he/she is moving towards success. Challenged Celebrity (CC) is perceived to be on the path whereby appearances must be kept up. News about CC’s new projects seems to be scarce, yet her social media accounts as well as publicity project otherwise. CC is giving off busy vibes, which are good for her image.
Sadly, CC has other motivations that taking a break is unthinkable. With her endeavors, CC faces high costs of living and a steady flow of projects is needed to sustain such lifestyle. In addition, rumors indicate that CC has family members that still depend on her for basic things for their own families. If CC stops finding gigs, her support would be affected. CC is known for being kind and therefore her support must come from her sincerity. Despite her responsibilities, certain fans or followers are still relentless in throwing negatives at CC for the slight reasons.
