Dividing Pressure

While the route via loveteams seems to be the easiest way to achieve fame, apparently, not all talents fit this model. Strong-minded Talent (ST) has always wanted to enter showbiz and when she had the opportunity, she used it to her advantage. ST is talented and has a commendable fan base, which the network saw. Hence, ST was signed up and plans took off.
The network took the usual route of having a reel partner for ST. To cut the story short, all the male leads that the network partnered with ST were disinterested even if in front of the camera. Somehow, none of the actors clicked with ST and ST was left alone. The network continued to try finding the right one and has listened to fans.
When the network paired off ST with Newbie Celebrity (NC), the fans loved their partnership. The network thought their think tanks could rest and finally make concrete plans for ST and NC. Unfortunately, they were wrong, as NC backed out.
Shocked at the development, ST could not believe that her latest loveteam was once again dissolved by the network. To express her disappointment, ST posted her thoughts on social media and her fans expectedly reacted. For now, ST has to go solo, which is the most difficult start for a young talent in her caliber.
As the reason for dissolving their partnership remains blur, the grapevine says that the decision was prompted by the camp of NC. NC was not comfortable with being paired with ST. He did not like the idea of faking feelings just to delight fans, as he is not attracted or even interested in ST. Allegedly, NC asked his management to talk to the network bosses about his desire to leave the loveteam.
Peer pressure could have affected NC as well. According to stories, friends were teasing NC, as he was previously partnered with better-looking female talents and they said him being with ST was a downgrade. NC was also less classy than him. While the reasoning may be shallow, peer pressure can be very powerful. Besides, if the partnership is not organic, the team-up will not click.

Artist Playground Stages Floy Quintos’ ‘LARO’ This Pride Month
“LARO,” written by Floy Quintos with additional material by Miguel Castro, is an adaptation of Arthur Schnitzler’s “La Ronde” for 10 male actors. The play, consisting of 10 interlocking encounters between pairs of characters, tells the story of 10 characters from different walks of life. It explores their never-ending search for happiness and true love within Manila’s gay community.
The play was first produced by Theater Now!, the now defunct experimental arm of Bulwagang Gantimpala, in November 2004. There were six performances at the Gantimpala venue in Luneta and additional six performances at the Tanghalang Huseng Batute of the Cultural Center of the Philippines. Some cast members of the original production are Andoy Ranay, Peter Serrano, Juliene Mendoza, JoMari Jose, Miguel Castro, Neil Ryan Sese, and Roli Inocencio.
This year, it will be staged by Artist Playground and it will be directed by John Mark Yap, with movement design by Jm Cabling, set design by Io Balanon, costume design by Nicolo Perez, lighting design by Miggy Panganiban, sound design by Arvy Dimaculangan, and graphics design by Gian Nicdao.
André Miguel plays the role of the Call Boy, Paul Jake Paule plays the role of the Pulis, and Phi Palmos plays the role of the Drag Queen. Gio Gahol and Mike Liwag alternate the role of the Manggagamit, while MC Dela Cruz portrays the role of the Kalaguyo. Al Gatmaitan and Victor Sy alternate the role of the Ideal, Ross Pesigan plays the role of the Estudyante, while Jon Abella and Vincent Pajara alternate the role of the Manunulat. Jonathan Ivan Rivera and Jay Gonzaga alternate the role of the Modelo, and Vincent A. DeJesus portrays the role of the Pilantropo. The cast will also feature the Players of Artist Playground: Aaron Dioquino, Dan Sheneill Solis, Robert Macaraeg, and Christian Silang.
“LARO” will run on the first two weekends of the Pride Month for 8 shows only: June 1, 2, 8, and 9, with 3pm and 7pm on all show dates. It will be staged at Arts Above, Penthouse of West Venue Building (BIR), West Avenue, Quezon City.

When Talented Artist (TA) has been receiving hints that Skilled Performer (SP) is interested in him, he has made it a point to stay away from opportunities with SP. For TA, any tinge of association with SP might mean the end of his career. Without work, TA would not be able to sustain his lifestyle and fend for his family. Hence, he has consciously made efforts to avoid SP.
In addition, TA is aware of the possible bashing of fans who will assume that he wants to gain mileage by being linked with SP. Hence, TA has opted to keep things as far as possible between them. However, TA and SP work in the same area and their paths eventually cross. Still, TA keeps his professionalism when it comes to performing with SP in various shows. The same is true with SP, who has never divulged anything about his private choices despite speculations from kibitzers.
Opportunity can be strange and it came knocking at the door. This time, TA cannot avoid working with SP in an out-of-town project. Rooms were about to be assigned and SP requested to share his room with TA. He wanted a vocal coach, a role TA can fill in, as he was going to sing several songs. The request was odd, as big names usually want to have a solo room. As SP is a prized talent who can get away with everything, his request was granted. Besides, the production team was unaware of the possible real motive of SP for wanting TA as his roomie.
During the said meeting, SP allegedly smiled at TA, who, in turn, smiled back. Perhaps, TA ought to be ready for singing beyond their stage performance. However, in case TA succumbs to any moves of SP, he knows such action equals high risk for his career.
