Delivering on Her Promise

Sometimes, talent is not enough for someone to shine and emerge as a celebrity of sorts. One requires being at the right place at the right time. In addition, one needs to strategize or plan the career path. More importantly, the talent has to be determined to reach his/her goal.
When Potential Talent (PT) entered the industry, she seemed to exude another celebrity that the network can mold. PT had a strong and active set of fans as well as achievements that might be hard to achieve for other personalities at her age. With a seeming popularity, the network entrusted her with significant roles in various projects.
Unfortunately, reality turned out differently. Although she seemed to be popular, PT was unable to gain the full attention of the celebrity-makers of her station. She realized that she had to have her own plans as well if she wants to stand out.
Nonetheless, PT remained visible in various projects, but the seasoned handlers noticed she was not that talented after all. In one of the projects PT was assigned to, the acting experts noted her lack of ability to deliver. She tried to give the proper expression, but her efforts were not good enough. Thus, her attention was called and she promised to take workshops to hone her acting. Moreover, she learned that her project seemed to be wanting attention from viewers.
Given such scenario, PT called on her fan groups to give a push to her project. Utilizing various social media forums, her fans made sure that whenever she had scenes, she would be trending or at least have a significant number of posts. Thus, with the help of her support system, PT showed that she can be popular even if it’s only on social media trends.
Nonetheless, there are moments when someone becomes popular not because of talent, but of the hype created by the ripples of orchestrated social media posts.

Repost: Former OMB Chairman Ronnie Ricketts Found Guilty of Graft

The Sandiganbayan on Friday found former Optical Media Board (OMB) chairman Ronnie Ricketts guilty of graft for his mishandling of seized pirated DVDs and VCDs in 2010.
The anti-graft court’s Fourth Division meted the penalty of six to eight years imprisonment, plus the subsidiary punishment of perpetual disqualification from holding public office, against Ricketts, a former actor.
Ricketts, the court said, gave undue benefit to Sky High Marketing Corporation when the OMB confiscated tons of pirated compact discs in its Quezon City building on May 27, 2010.
That same day, the confiscated items were "released and reloaded into the corporation's vehicle" instead of filing the appropriate charges against the company. —KBK, GMA News

Except for being active in social media, which is a trend among celebrities nowadays, the careers of showbiz partners seemed to have slowed down. During their peak, Male Half (MH) and Female Half (FH) were among the most sought-after endorsers when it comes to lifestyle. However, times have changed and MH and FH have grown older.
With careers going nowhere, followers and fans wondered how the couple could keep their standard of living. According to the grapevine, MH and FH have their own private business that involves showing off their talents. Usually, the patrons are foreigners who can pay and can be discrete. Sometimes, their seemingly controversial posts in social media are allegedly ways to entice online clients. Nothing lasts forever and this mode of earning had to take the backseat.
Thus, with the new responsibility MH and FH are facing, their old way of living cannot continue and some clients were lost because they had to go offline for a long time. With no steady source of income, the couple resorted to asking loans from friends with the promise of paying on a due date. The friends could not refuse, as the excuse is to help out on the needs of the little ones.
As expected, payments never came and the lenders are irritated at seeing the social media posts of the two. Allegedly, photos show that the two are keeping their lifestyle high, hitting the gym with a personal trainer, and even going on an expensive diet fad. One even spotted an expensive item in the background of a post.
Often, lenders are just waiting for the right moment to expose defaulting borrowers. Who knows, their friends might suddenly expose MH and FH and their unpaid loans unless the two realize that they should be working on paying back their dues immediately.
