Just No Freedom

When Popular Entertainer (PE) entered showbiz, he probably had no idea that his successful career would change his life in ways he could never have imagined then. Having good looks, talent, and appeal, PE had potential to become a box-office. The management and producers saw all those qualities in PE and thus they decided to gamble. The investment paid off and PE is now loved by his fans and he has financial security.
However, fans of long ago are far different now. Today’s fans are highly possessive with the on and off cam life of their idols. The price of fame is PE’s lack of privacy. To be part of this generation and to connect with fans, social media accounts are indispensable. PE has his social media accounts and his followers savor and analyze every post he makes. What he probably does not know is how some followers are closely monitoring his posts and plotting a timeline of his activities. Any discrepancy or an unaccounted moment could unleash awful fan reactions.
One time, a follower caught A Female (AF) posting momentarily what seems to be part of the home of PE. Immediately, the follower pieced out the details of PE’s schedule and questioned how AF could be at his home if he was supposed to be at work. Thus, the conclusion was that he was entertaining AF at his home.
While there might be nothing wrong with PE entertaining AF, the problem was that he happens to be in a relationship with Versatile Talent (VT), whose fans are as equally possessive. Thus, the follower called out PE for his alleged visitor and accused of taking advantage of VT’s not being at their home.
Sadly, PE could not do anything about the actions of his fans that seem to be curtailing his freedom. He cannot be rude to them as his career hinges on the support he gets from them and he needs such support, as he embarks on new projects that could make or break his future in the industry.
‘Nobody can give you freedom. Nobody can give you equality or justice or anything. If you're a man, you take it.’ – Malcolm X

Repost: Fashion Icon Kate Spade Found Dead in Apartment

The American designer Kate Spade was found dead on Tuesday, according to police officials.
The police said that Ms. Spade, 55, was discovered unresponsive at a Park Avenue apartment, where she had hanged herself. She had left a note, but the official did not comment on what it said. She was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:26 a.m.
A housekeeper found Ms. Spade in her bedroom hanging from a red scarf tied to a doorknob, the police said. She was unconscious and the housekeeper called 911.
Ms. Spade’s husband was at the scene. A police spokesman did not know the whereabouts of Ms. Spade’s daughter.
Born Kate Brosnahan in Kansas City, Mo., in December 1962, Ms. Spade was one of the first of a powerful wave of female American contemporary designers in the 1990s.
She built a brand on the appeal of clothes and accessories that made women smile, her cheerful lack of restraint and bright prints striking a chord with consumers. She herself was the embodiment of her aesthetic, with her proto-1960s bouffant, nerd glasses and kooky grin, which masked a business mind that saw the opportunities in becoming a lifestyle brand, almost before the term officially existed.
Ms. Spade, who had been the accessories editor of Mademoiselle magazine, founded Kate Spade with her husband-to-be, Andy and a friend, Elyce Arons, in 1993. Frustrated with the handbags of the era, which she found to be over-accessorized, she had wanted “a functional bag that was sophisticated and had some style,” she told The New York Times in 1999.
She did not know what to call the company at first and decided to make it a combination of the names of the co-founders. After the first show, she realized that the bags needed a little something extra to catch people’s eyes. She took the label, which originally had been on the inside of the bag, and sewed it to the outside. With that gesture, she created a brand identity and her empire.
Within a few years, she had opened a SoHo shop and was collecting industry awards, her name a shorthand for the cute, clever bags that were an instant hit with career women and, later, young girls, status symbols of a more attainable, all-American sort than a Fendi clutch or Chanel bag. Ms. Spade became the very visible face of her brand.
In 1999, the Spades sold the business to Neiman Marcus Group, and the company changed hands several times after that — in 2006, Neiman Marcus Group sold it to Liz Claiborne, Inc., which eventually shed its other holdings to become the publicly-traded Kate Spade & Company, itself acquired in 2017 by Coach, Inc. (After the Kate Spade acquisition, Coach, Inc. became the holding company Tapestry, which also owns Coach and Stuart Weitzman.)
By then, the Spades had been gone a decade, having left in 2007 to devote themselves to other projects. Ms. Spade dedicated herself to her family and to philanthropy, and in 2016, together with her husband, Ms. Arons, and Paola Venturi, a Kate Spade alum, launched a new venture, an accessories label called Frances Valentine. Ms. Spade was so committed to the project that she told interviewers she had changed her surname from Spade to Valentine.

Big Secret
One of the issues that surround generations of families with a certain reputation is the pressure to conform to the expectations of the family name. Often, famous parents hope that their children would follow their footsteps. While most children attempt to continue the legacy, other kids would rather ditch the expected path and make their own. Such decision could lead to being disowned or to being accepted.
When Handsome Scion (HS) was introduced to the public as the son of highly recognizable parents, he was expected to continue with the family tradition. As the first among many grandchildren, it seems that the burden to succeed was on the shoulders of HS. His elders even had dreams for him to be in a certain position by the time he has come of age. Unfortunately, HS, even early in his life, was showing disinterest in moving with the family legacy.
HS pursued his own career and occasionally would be covered by various publications because of his work. Sometimes, stories would be about him, his girlfriends, and his family. However, as time passed, HS was clearly not going into the family business, so to speak. Perhaps, HS did not want to conform to expectations, which included proper public behavior.
One time, HS was spotted enjoying a moment with another person. Given that HS is famous, Unknown Vacationer (UV) became an instant paparazzi and started taking photos discretely. In a matter of seconds, the bodyguard noticed what UV was doing and approached the individual. The bodyguard told UV to delete the said photos and paid UV to keep quiet. While there was money involved, the undertone was that if UV did not agree to the request, he’d better be ready for the consequences. Knowing that HS was not from an ordinary family, UV agreed.
The bodyguard was clearly alert in protecting HS and if he were not and the photos leaked, the family name would be besmirched and the entire clan would be embarrassed. Allegedly, the photos showed HS kissing another man.

The brother of celebrities Elmo and Maxene Magalona was arrested in Taguig early Monday, police said.
Authorities apprehended Francis Michael Magalona after he supposedly touched a woman’s buttocks, according to Southern Police District Director, Chief Superintendent Tomas Apolinario Jr.
The victim said she was pulling out alcoholic beverages when Magalona approached her, walked behind her and pinched her behind.
The victim, who is a VIP host at the Revel Bar, reported the incident to their supervisor and asked assistance from the head bouncer, which led to Magalona's arrest.
As of posting, Magalona is detained in a Taguig police station.
The suspect's camp has yet to issue a statement regarding the matter.

Repost: Malacanang Says Kissing OFW is Nothing But a Playful Act
Source: www.gmanetwork.com
Malacañang on Monday shrugged off criticism over President Rodrigo Duterte's act of kissing a Filipino woman on the lips during his meeting with the Filipino community on Sunday in South Korea.
Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said the woman herself admitted that there was no malice in it.
"Well I think the kiss is what has made the President very popular amongst our people. Obviously there is no offended party here," Roque said in an interview on CNN Philippines.
"It's a playful act. There was no malice in it. The woman made it clear that she didn't think there was malice in it. It was all intended as a light moment and let's leave it at that."
Roque also believed that the "overwhelming majority of Filipinos" continue to support the President and "found the kiss a light moment that is very accepted in the culture of Filipinos."
"It was not an issue to the woman so it was not an issue to the President. And if you were there the Filipino community appreciated the act. It was an act of endearment intended towards all OFWs," the Palace official said.
Married to a South Korean with whom she has two children, the Filpino woman said the kiss did not mean anything and it was done to make the audience giddy.
Several netizens and opposition lawmakers, however, were not amused.
Senator Risa Hontiveros said even if the act was consensual, it was Duterte who initiated it.
“It was not a meeting of two consenting individuals on equal terms. Uneven power relations were clearly at play. And President Duterte took advantage of that severe power disparity,” she said.
