The Philippines will not host this year's installment of the Miss Universe pageant, Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said Friday.

"Hindi muna (Not) this year," Romulo-Puyat told DZMM.

She cited budget constraints as a reason not to host the pageant, saying the tourism department still needs to address other concerns.

"We'll focus muna on other things. Anyway, kaka-Miss Universe lang naman so baka saka na lang," she said.

"Marami muna tayo kailangan ayusin," she added.

(We recently hosted Miss Universe so maybe some other time. We still need to fix a lot of things.)

Manila last hosted the international beauty pageant in January 2017 when French beauty queen Iris Mittenaere was crowned as the successor of Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach.

The Miss Universe pageants were also held in the Philippines in 1974 and 1994.

Catriona Gray, a former Miss World top 5 finisher, will represent the Philippines in the 67th Miss Universe.

Today’s young loveteams are under pressure to make their fandoms happy and the only way to do that is for the reel couple to get into a serious real relationship. Anything less or any other person that is linked to either party will incur the wrath of followers and a long tirade of bashing will hound the social media accounts of the concerned celebrities. Fans today will make sure they have a say in the personal life of their idols, whether in the form of curses or in praises.

Thus, most celebrities in loveteams are wary of being seen in public with anyone else other than their loveteam partner. Once seen with another person, fans can go crazy over social media and call out the celebrity, and fans will not at all buy into any excuses or explanation. Such predicament has limited the growth of fans as well as their movement. So, how does one go about such dilemma?

While Network Actress (NA) has found a bankable partner in Dashing Man (DM), their fans insist that something serious is happening between the two of them. NA and DM as a reel couple have proven that success comes at the right time and their partnership has proven they can be very profitable for their management. The two have to play the game of convincing fans that they are developing a special relationship.

However, events seem to refute such image. Often, NA has been seen in several group dates with her close friends in and out of showbiz. These dates are usually without DM. Like a typical person, NA has the freedom to move about when she’s with her group. Noticeably, other than her female friends, Constant Fixture (CF) is a former reality show personality. While CF hardly appears in the social media accounts of NA, the accounts of NA’s friends show them enjoying each other’s company. Thus, the question of either CF or NA liking each other is raised. If indeed something is happening between the two, the fans of NA and DM might not like that.
