Hit Single Lands in Movie Soundtrack: Jay-R Gets Big Hollywood Break
King of RnB Jay-R has just added another feather to his cap.
His single, L-O-V-E, from his most recent Elevated album, was chosen to be part of the soundtrack of an upcoming Hollywood romantic comedy, The Bounce Back, starring Shemar Moore, Bill Bellamy and Nadine Velazquez.
"It's a dream come true for me. Any artist would love to be in a soundtrack that's part of a Hollywood movie," exclaimed the ASAP Soul Sessionist crowd favorite.
"Yes, this is the first time my music will be part of a Hollywood movie."
Jay-R flew to Los Angeles last weekend to attend the movie's red carpet screening to be held at the TCL Chinese Theater, Hollywood Blvd., on December 6.
Asked how the song caught the attention of Ray Brown, the movie’s producer, Jay-R explains, "I had no idea that they were eyeing my song for the movie. They just saw that L-O-V-E was perfect for the scene in the movie. There wasn't any audition. They just choose and score the movie with music they see fit for the film."
Despite his personal triumph, Jay-R gives due credit to his U.S.-based producer friends for giving his single the much-needed push.
While in the States, aside from walking the red carpet, Jay-R also hopes to do a promotional music video for the movie, and record new tunes with his L.A.-based producers and writers.
Will this personal triumph soon pave the way for new career opportunities for Jay-R as a composer/songwriter?
"Yes, I would love for my music to be part of local teleseryes and local movies. That would be great," he adds.

Totally Uncalled for Attitude
At work, TA means business, and her presence could sometimes make fellow actors feel inferior because they know that the embarrassment to be pitted with someone who is more prepared than them. While working with TA seems to be a dream, as everything will go smoothly because she follows instructions down to the letter and knows where to place herself, something is amiss in her career in the local scene. Thus, TA left and risked everything for an overseas career. Although absence is supposed to make the heart grow fonder, in the case of the fans of TA, they moved on and shifted support to other new faces that came after her.
Except for a few elite Filipino talents who made it abroad, TA was not among them. Despite going to auditions left and right and honing her skills, TA could not penetrate the international market she was once obsessed with. With no career direction and diminishing finances, returning to the country was the option she and her family humbly swallowed. Thus, TA is back at a time when her contemporaries have already lorded the industry, while some have faded away as well. The problem facing TA was where to start.
Using old contacts, TA managed to have several appearances in various entertainment shows. Her remaining fans regrouped, but TA could no longer bring back her prime. The reality is that TA was now just an ordinary talent, struggling to find a project. Lucky for TA, friends helped her stage a quiet comeback. In one of her guestings, TA specifically requested to have her own dressing room, which she claims was common courtesy abroad. When she arrived at the designated room, TA was shocked to see that she was sharing the room with two other personalities.
Upon seeing that her request was not considered, TA started going ballistic and did not care who heard her. She did not know that someone from the camp of the two other personalities was around. After a few minutes, one of the personalities arrived and calmly asked TA why they should leave the room. This reaction caught TA by surprise, as the personality was very calm and non-confrontational. TA had to retreat and started to apologize as well. She even said that she did not say anything about who should leave the room. TA had to be careful, as the celebrity in front of her was more famous and if TA made the wrong move, she might end up being bashed in social media. Finally, the production heard of what happened, and thus, they moved both to other rooms. However, things are not as simple as they seem, because the producers said that TA would hardly be invited to guest again in several shows of the network.

Repost: House Justice Committee Approves Death Penalty Bill
The bill restoring the death penalty passed a major hurdle in the House of Representatives with its approval on Wednesday at the committee level, paving the way for the measure to be taken up on the plenary floor.
With its swift approval, the measure allowing courts to impose death as punishment for heinous crime — one of President Rodrigo Duterte’s campaign promises — may be debated and possibly passed on third and final reading before Christmas.
By a 12-6 vote, with one abstention, the justice committee chaired by Oriental Mindoro Rep. Reynaldo Umali approved the substitute bill consolidating several similar measures reimposing the capital punishment for more than 20 heinous offenses, including rape with homicide, kidnapping for ransom, and arson with death.
This followed a nearly three-hour long debate by lawmakers in favor of or opposed to the death penalty bill, one of the priority legislative agenda pushed by Mr. Duterte, along with measures lowering the age of criminal liability and switching to federalism.
Albay Rep. Edcel Lagman and Dinagat Rep. Kaka Bag-ao articulated spirited objections against the approval of bill, arguing that there were no compelling reasons to justify the reimposition of the death penalty bill.
But their arguments fell on deaf ears in the face of the majority.
Leyte Rep. Vicente Veloso, a former Court of Appeals justice, said it was important to give courts the option to impose the penalty of death against the worst and most hardened criminals.
“If the one in front of you is Satan himself, at least give the government the option to kill the person. That’s Satan already,” he said.
Bag-ao begged to disagree with Veloso, saying most of those who would end up facing death as punishment for their offenses are ordinary people.
“It’s not Satan who would face the courts, but ordinary people, many of them among the poor,” she said.
She also cited Philippine Statistics Authority figures showing that the period when the death penalty was imposed did not indicate any decline in crime numbers. In fact, she said, the numbers showed there was more crime during the time capital punishment was in effect.
But Umali, the committee chair, later presented figures submitted by the Philippine National Police showing an opposite trend where criminality had started to rise after the death penalty was abolished.
Seeking to put an end to the debate, Majority Leader Rodolfo Fariñas noted that the framers of the 1987 Constitution, many of them devout Christians, had opted to keep the option of capital punishment.
“When they framed the Constitution, if they thought the death penalty was wrong, they should have abolished it in the first place. But what they did was set it aside. They said it could be revived if Congress wanted to,” he said.
He further noted that Mr. Duterte was elected by the Filipino people after he promised to reimpose the death penalty and to litter Manila Bay with the bodies of criminals.
