Letter from a Reader: Fashion Designer Laments Alleged Copying of Design for Gown Worn by Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach in Beauty Product Ad

Dear Fashion PULIS,
I said I would consider, but since I became really busy at the time, we simply lost touch, and I assumed the request was forgotten.
Fast forward to last week, I got messages from lots of people asking about Pia Wurtzbach and congratulating me for the gown she was wearing in the new Olay commercial. I was confused, and when I saw the ad, my heart dropped to my stomach. It was a yellow version of the white gown I made last April. It was the very same gown I made for Lovi Poe in her new movie The Escort (which was filmed months ago). It's a signature style I’ve made and used in different colors and variations since March this year.
I don't know Jot Losa personally, but we are aware of each other, as we both used to be in the Manila Fashion Festival, we have many common designer friends. I am also aware of his tendencies of recreating "pegs" for celebrities like Anja Rubik's Vacarello high slit gown, which he recreated in Navy Blue for Anne Curtis. Thus, I'm just shocked how he thinks no one would notice this.
Both Jot Losa and stylist Adrianne Concepcion are aware of my work. One thing that also confirmed this to me is the fact that when we were making the first sample of this gown, I designed it to be a halter neckline. My seamstress made a mistake and we ended up making the straps rest on the tip of the shoulders, which was a specific feature adopted by Jot Losa for Pia's gown.
Now, I could just stay silent about this issue or I could speak up and maybe start a discussion about integrity amidst peg requests from clients and stylists. Although fashion design cannot be protected by law, it's still extremely unfair for someone to steal your work and (using a high profile personality like Pia) claim it as theirs.

Casting Doubt on the Sincerity of Her Kindness
The moment Pretty Actress (PA) found out that Gutsy Nemesis (GN) was in trouble, she immediately thought of what she could do to help. The action of PA shocked those who found out that she sent food, clothes, and toiletries to GN. After all, the untimely outcome of GN was the perfect way of extracting revenge for someone whom she had hurt badly, just like PA.
The root cause of this rift between PA and GN resulted from the inability of the latter to resist the charms of Appealing Actor (AA). When PA found enough evidence linking GN and AA, who denied doing anything wrong, she immediately took action. She decided things had to stop, and that included breaking the forever vow she made with AA.
Just as when their fans thought that AA would end up with GN after PA left, speculations were wrong. GN continued on her way, whereas AA found another woman to shower with affection. As for PA, moving on meant dealing with bashers, getting back in shape, reestablishing a sleeping career, and finding love again. It was at this point that GN became the recipient of the generosity of PA.
Kibitzers wondered if such generosity was also the way for PA to make GN feel guilty for ruining PA and AA’s lifetime moment. Nonetheless, PA sent her gifts to put smile on the face of GN. PA is also thankful in a way because the entry of GN in her relationship with AA showed his true colors, which revolved around his womanizing.
However, another story is making its round in the grapevine. While PA seems to be the most generous person for GN, doubts have been cast. Rumors have it that PA allegedly might have had a hand in tipping off the operations of GN. Now, PA has seen that despite everything that she had lost then, GN would be the biggest loser in the end after all.

Repost: Rumor: 'Someone Powerful' Allegedly Prevented Kris from Doing TV Show on GMA

It looks like Kris Aquino may have met her match.
If reports are to be believed, someone is stopping the TV comeback of the so-called Queen of All Media on GMA, weeks after she officially announced her department from ABS-CBN.
According to entertainment editor Salve Asis of tabloid Pilipino Star Ngayon, Kris was expected to take over GMA's pre-programming for its noontime program Eat Bulaga.
However, "someone powerful" prevented this from happening.
Citing an unnamed source, she claimed: "Hindi pumayag ang isang ‘powerful’ na matuloy ang kanyang show sa APT Entertainment."
("Someone powerful did not allow Kris' show with APT Entertainment to push through.")
Asis added: "Ang inasahan daw kasi ni Kris ay mapupunta na sa kanya ang timeslot ng Calle Siete ng GMA na ang producer ay ang APT pero hindi raw nangyari. May humarang na ‘powerful’ kaya walang nagawa ang ex-presidential sister ayon sa source."
("Kris expected her show to get the time of GMA's late morning soap opera Calle Siete, which is produced by APT, but it did not happen. The source said the plan was stopped by someone powerful and the ex-presidential sister cannot do anything about.")
She hinted that politics may be involved. "Isama pa raw dito ang isyu ng pulitika noong panahon ni Pangulong Noynoy Aquino sa nasabing powerful," Asis wrote.
("The reason includes a political issue involving former President Noynoy Aquino [Kris' brother] with the said powerful person.")
Veteran entertainment journalist Mario Bautista also reported the same thing in his Journal Online article.
"We heard someone powerful rejected Kris in being in that slot, but sorry, we’re not at liberty to say who. We’re sure Kris herself knows. So, as long as that someone is objecting, she can never have that time slot for her own show," he wrote.
Last week, Kris revealed that she experienced "three weeks of hell" after "several things that I thought that were going to start were delayed." She later confirmed that it was her planned TV show, which supposed to start taping last month.
She refused to give any further details, but added: "Alam niyo kasi if pag-usapan ko ‘yan, mas lalong hindi maaayos. And sobrang taas ng respeto ko sa nakausap ko na pareho kaming naging collateral damage lang."
("If I talk about think, it still won't be fixed. And I respect the person I talked to and we are bother collateral damage.")
In any case, Kris seems to be ready to move forward.
On Mon, Oct 17, she wrote in an Instagram post that she is "ready for my next chapter."
