One of today’s hottest stars and current cover of MEGA Man magazine James Reid finally spoke up about the alleged involvement of his sister Lauren Reid in the shocking split of musician Gab Valenciano from his wife, fashion personality Tricia Centenera.

“I have heard about that. All I have to say about that is that it’s not true. That’s what I have to say,”declared James quietly but emphatically at last night’s launch of Manulife Philippines’ ‘Start Your Story’ campaign which he headlines.

The topic of caring for one’s self and one’s family came to the fore as James, who is the newest ambassador of Manulife Philippines, discussed how he is making sure he makes sound investments for himself and his siblings.

“They know naman that all I am doing — this is all for the family. They know why I am doing this is for them. Parang they want to return the favor.”

Lately, his siblings Lauren and Jack Reid have been in the headlines as both have decided to follow James’ lead and get into showbiz full-time. Jack is the current face of Folded & Hung’s Disney collection campaign and according to James is undergoing workshops to further improve his skills.

As for Lauren, the newly-minted It Girl has been making waves since she debuted on the cover of Inside Showbiz Weekly and garnered fashion features after that. James shared, “I am very proud of Lauren and Jack. Lauren is doing very well. Marami saying magazine covers. She’s doing very well.”

James also opened up about his advice to the two showbiz newbies. “I tell them, really, just be yourself.

Don’t mind the bashers. As long as you’re doing the right thing, it doesn’t matter what they say.”Now that Lauren’s name has figured as one of the alleged reasons for the controversial breakup of Gab and Tricia, James quickly but calmly flew to the defense of his sister. “She was the one who told me. She was like, ‘Do you know this? This is out. Blah blah blah. And it’s not true.’”

James went on to relate, “No, she’s not affected.” When asked about Gab and Lauren’s involvement with each other, James declared, “They’ve met, but that’s it.” He even confessed when asked about how his sister was taking all the negative press, “Nakalimutan na niya.” With that, James being the one in showbiz longer and no doubt more familiar with its goings-on did the sensible thing — he cleared his sister’s name and put the issue to rest.

Her Immature Decision

Many talents struggle to attend auditions and pray hard to be included in a cast of a primetime show, or for that matter, any show that would make their dreams come true. By contrast, some network stars take for granted the projects that their network is giving them. Apparently unaware of the consequences of her decision, Spontaneous Celebrity (SC) might have just made a booboo in her career. Given that SC opted to leave her show, consequences are forthcoming.

Over the past months, the fans of SC have been clamoring to see her once again on TV. After all, her last project was so successful, and that a follow up was requested. SC is a competent performer and her acting convinces the audience that she is whom she portrays on TV. Thus, the network placed her in a major series and her fans as well as the loyal followers of the show appreciated her presence. What was merely a guesting was extended to months, which indicated that SC had a following.

Then, without any publicly known incident, viewers were shocked to find out that the character of SC will no longer continue. The production could not see any valid reason for her wanting out, as the show is rating well and her role is significant. Still, SC filed her resignation, and the production had to revise the storyline to get her character written out of the series. Nonetheless, the production tried to understand her reason, which centered on her having many commitments that she had to fulfill. A quick check, however, showed that SC has no projects, gigs, or any other projects that should prevent her from continuing.

Allegedly, SC allowed her ego to rule over. She felt that her character was not growing anymore and that she was just playing second to the Main Lead (ML). Besides, two other characters were overshadowing her presence. These two characters even have their own storylines.

Later on, friends asked ML how he was doing, as the absence of SC’s character would mean changes in their plot. ML poured his heart out and expressed his disappointment at the seeming immature decision of SC. He felt worse when he saw that SC seemed to be enjoying the sand and the sun, which seemed opposite her reason for leaving the show. Finally, SC decided to bring his irritation to the big bosses. Through hard work and dedication, ML has managed to maneuver himself to have influence in the network. All his TV shows are rating well, and the network knows ML is too valuable for their programming. However, one of the bosses allegedly did not budge because SC has a special place in his realm. When the production heard the gripes of ML, the team took it upon themselves to act on the matter. They decided to boycott SC, which means that SC will not be considered in the projects the team will be creating in the future. Hence, when she allowed her ego to prevail, SC might have overlooked that her network currently has so many new talents and any one could replace SC in the future.

Movie Review: Barcelona: A Love Untold

Main Cast: Daniel Padilla, Kathryn Bernardo
Director: Olivia M. Lamasan
MTRCB Rating: PG
Released By: Star Cinema

Shooting a film out of the country is getting to be the in thing for local filmmakers these days.  Aldub’s  Imagine You and Me was shot in Italy, Jadine’s This Time in Japan, and now, Kathniel has Barcelona, Spain in its latest starrer.

Barcelona: A Love Untold, is the comeback movie of Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo to the big screen and their first under director Olivia Lamasan.

The movie  attempts to  ’recreate ’ Daniel and Kathryn in a love story  sans the usual sweet and innocent roles,  supposedly to show how much the 5-year old love team has evolved through the years.

In the movie, Ely (Daniel) is a student in Barcelona pursuing further studies in Architecture while engaged in three (3) jobs as a tour guide, waiter and photographer to support himself and provide for his family back home. He lives with his aunt (Aiko Melendez) and her son Tonying (Joshua Garcia ) while estranged with his wealthy biological mother (Isabel Lopez) who also lives in Barcelona.

Ely meets the troubled Mia who goes to Spain to escape some personal issues in the Philippines that had antagonized her relationship with her strict father (Ricky Davao). Unfortunately, she would be faced with more trouble in Barcelona. Coming from a privileged background, Mia is at a loss and can’t cope as an OFW doing menial jobs and hard labor. About to surrender to her fate, Ely helps and guides her in a big way.

There are so many issues to untangle in this movie. Apart from Ely’s falling out with his mother, for example, he struggles to get over a relationship gone bad with a girl named Celine, who interestingly or oddly, looks a lot like Mia. This plot makes a turning point as it inches and weaves its way into the story.

The movie suffers from an overload of drama, too much unnecessary tears that it creates some kind of a ’disconnect ’.  There are so many issues going on in the characters’ lives that are confusing to the viewer, showing one dramatic scene after another without really justifying how they came about. It seems that they are interwoven with each other, sorely lacking in nuances - like a piece of this and that, here and there, without real substantial justification.

There is a heavy confrontation scene in the movie between Aiko and her son that was a bit off. After all the shouting and verbal assaults thrown at each other, mother and son suddenly kiss and make up immediately after Ely’s very quick lecture. How awkward can that get?

The film ’though is truthful in its portrayal of Ely and Mia as OFW’s or overseas Filipino workers. Their hard toil in a foreign land, living with and embracing an unfamiliar culture, while coping with personal issues, legal constraints, financial problems and the challenge of dealing with (sometimes insensitive) family back home.

Ely and Mia’s romance gives the film the much-needed breather… and excitement for the fans, too. Barcelona is a perfect place for the couple amid the changing lights and colors at Magic Fountain of Montjuc and their walks along the streets surrounding the world famous temple, Sagrada Familia.

But despite some flaws, director Lamasan succeeds in bringing out the improved actor in Daniel Padilla. Compared to Kathryn, Daniel delivered more in this film. His eyes and movements say it, revealing maturity and experience. Kathryn’s acting on the other hand struggles but lacks depth, it has yet to reach that "leading lady" level. But who knows, it might not be for long. Perhaps, a stronger commitment to her craft will nail the difference. Ditto if Kathryn knows how to make use of her naturally beautiful face - then that will be a big plus.

The movie’s highlight is saved for last for the fans to smile and savor for all its worth.

Barcelona: A Love Untold also stars Ana Abad-Santos, Ana Capri, Cris Villanueva, Joey Marquez, Liza Diño, Melizza Jimenez, Patrick Sugui, now showing in cinemas.

Repost: Angelina Jolie Files for Divorce from Brad Pitt

Source: www.tmz.com

Angelina Jolie has filed for divorce from Brad Pitt and the trigger was a conflict over the kids, substance abuse and anger ... TMZ has learned.

Jolie filed legal docs Monday citing irreconcilable differences.

She's asking for physical custody of the couple's 6 children. She is asking the judge to give Pitt visitation. It's significant ... she does not want Brad to have joint physical custody ... only joint legal custody.

Sources connected with the couple tell us ... Angelina's decision to file has to do with the way Brad was parenting the children ... she was extremely upset with his methods.

Our sources say, Angelina became "fed up" with Brad's consumption of weed and possibly alcohol, and mixed with what she believes is "an anger problem" became dangerous for the children.

We're told there was no alleged "third person" ... her decision to file was solely over Brad's interaction with their children.

Jolie, who's being repped by disso queen Laura Wasser, is not asking for spousal support.

Jolie lists the date of separation as Sept. 15, 2016.

They married in August 2014. They've been together since 2004.

The last time we saw them together was in July when they took the twins, Knox and Vivienne, out for a birthday breakfast in West Hollywood.

Repost: Senator Kiko Pangilinan Clarifies Context of Sharon Cuneta's Singing at New Bilibid Prison

On July 10, 2012, Sharon went to the New Bilibid Prison for the taping of her talk show, “Kasama mo Kapatid,” which had an episode featuring the life of inmates. She sang four songs for the closing portion, which is the customary format of the show. She sang “Maging Sino Ka Man,” “Tubig at Langis,” “Kahit Konting Pagtingin,” and “Kahit Maputi Na ang Buhok Ko” but only to support RockEd’s outreach program for prisoners.

However, if people who heard the testimony at the House this morning are interested, my wife will have a special concert on October 15 and 22, 8 p.m. at the Theatre at Solaire. We are sure that this concert will be livelier and more enjoyable than the outreach program in Bilibid.

Repost: Vilma Santos Shares Her Thoughts on Angel Locsin as Darna

Veteran actress and Batangas Representative Vilma Santos wished Angel Locsin good luck amid renewed speculations that former "Pilipinas Got Talent" judge is still being eyed to portray the role of the iconic superheroine Darna.

In an interview with reporters at the sidelines of the 34th Luna Awards on Sunday, Santos said she is happy for Locsin if she gets to don the Darna costume again because she knows that it’s the actress’ dream role.

“Matagal rin niyang gustong gawin 'yun. So kung sa kanya mapupunta, good for her. Talagang sinasakripisyo niyang gawin iyan so good luck to you, Gel,” she said with a big smile on her face.

According to Santos, the communication line is still open between her and Locsin even if the actress and her son Luis Manzano have already decided to end their relationship.

“Minsan nagte-text pa rin kami... wala naman kinalaman. Kung ano man 'yung sa anak ko, he’s mature enough to decide for himself. I’m a mom and I’m just here to guide,” she said.

Meanwhile, Locsin said there’s no final word yet that she will play Darna anew.

“Very open naman ako from the start na isa 'yan sa dream roles ko talaga. Ang laki ng naitulong sa career ko nung ginawa ko yung Darna. Hindi siya mawawala sa isip ko talaga. Pero sa ngayon, baka mas okay kung hindi muna natin siguro pag-uusapan muna,” she said.

Locsin, however, feels grateful that many people still want her to do the iconic role.

“Of course, very happy pero medyo torn ka kasi hindi mo alam kung anong reaction ang ipapakita mo. Parang hindi ka pa naman allowed magsalita. Hindi niyo pa puwede pag-usapan kasi wala pa naman kaming usapan talaga. Pero yung tiwalang binigay ng tao, malaking bagay na 'yun. Hindi ko makakalimutan 'yung pagmamahal na pinakita ng tao sa akin,” she said.

Locsin is currently busy filming the Star Cinema movie “The Third Party,” which also stars Zanjoe Marudo and Sam Milby.
