Keeping the Nice Image Might be Difficult in the Long Run
To avoid being harassed and bullied online, netizens who have had disappointing experiences with celebrities would rather not share in public the details of their encounter. Thus, the positive image of the said celebrity is preserved. Unfortunately, no amount of sugarcoating on social media can forever hide an undesirable attitude of famous celebrities. Eventually, negative behavior will seep into the public eye and the public will have to accept that celebrities are not perfect.
One of the reminders that only a few celebrities actually and sincerely practice is the attitude of remaining humble at all times regardless of whatever is troubling a celebrity. Given the system of the entertainment industry, local celebrities become public property and at a certain point, fans can be demanding. Older celebrities know that pleasing fans is priority and the very simple gesture of smiling can already earn much loyalty from them. By contrast, young celebrities nowadays are seen frowning more often and displaying impatience when they encounter fans.
When Rising Diva (RD) was shooting in a building somewhere out of town, fans were excited to see her. After all, her rise to fame was brought about by the audience’s unexpected acceptance of her being the love interest of a cute actor. Thus, anywhere she goes, RD is highly recognized, and diehard fans would risk everything just to have a photo with her. A few minutes before RD arrived at the said location, the fans were ready with their mobiles to capture a photo or two. Unexpectedly, someone from security told the waiting fans not to annoy RD, as she can be cranky and indifferent. It seemed to be a warning for them not to take photos.
Finally, RD arrived and the fans who were waiting were excited to see her. However, she did not bother with a smile and continued to walk. Then, a Brave Fan (BF) mustered courage, approached RD, and requested if they could have a selfie. In a cold and monotone voice, RD said, ‘Later. I still have to dress up.’ Then, she walked away. BF was surprised at the coldness and rude attitude of RD, who could have said her statement in a nicer way. Regardless of the waiting fans, RD just went around her business, not minding those who waited just to see her. Did RD come back for the fan to have a selfie with her? Well, the answer is obvious.
‘There's so many misconceptions about me and my personality. People think I'm not a nice person, you know, or maybe a diva; not just about me, but the misconceptions of other models as well, or supermodels.’ – Jessica White
